You know, I don't want to discriminate against the other fitness we all do... the biking, and strength, and swimming...

Good morning, y'all. Slow start to a Monday?

Well, like I said last night, I finished last week with 52.6 miles, which is one of my highest-mileage weeks ever. Dunno how smart that is. I've also now recoreded a run on 12 straight days, which ties my longest streak. So today's run will give me a new record. It's probably really stupid to be doing this while I'm still not fully recovered from the accident. But my legs feel perfectly fine, and a bunch of my runs have been nice and slow, so hopefully I'm doing okay...

Labor Day is three weeks from now. Wow, that's coming up soon! Maria, Litch, Coach... anybody going to be in New Haven? Anyone else?

Greetings, all.

I'm thinking that the next time (whenever) I do a week off of cardio/leg work, that a 10 mile run might NOT be the smartest way to come back. Oof. Calf muscles were saved by the Zensah sleeves, but my upper quads are still barking at me from Saturday's run. I didn't even get a run in yesterday because of them. Meh. Lesson learned.

Tonight: Spinning, and if the quads will allow them maybe 2-3 miles on the treadmill when I get back home.

Hiya gang! Wow, some long runs going on for you guys this weekend! I haven't had a really long run in a while. I think 17.5k was the longest I've gone since before I had Evelyn. I'm hoping to do a half this fall, though, so I should try and get some longish stuff done.

Not Since Moses was a blast! There were over 1000 runners who showed up. The day was beautiful, warm and sunny. We started out on packed mud which quickly turned to deep, sucky mud. Sucky as in if you didn't have your shoes tied well and double knotted you'd be losing them. People were falling down and laughing and giggling like a bunch of kids, it was too funny. After some of that, we hit water, anywhere from ankle to knee-deep. Then small rocks. Then packed sand. Then undulating sand, like dunes. My quads were screaming at me at that point. More water. Bigger rocks. Rocks with barnacles. Little crabs running by. Then turn around and follow the same path back. If you moved like you were cross country skiing on the slippery mud you could get through pretty good. But it was still a real workout. My sneakers were coated with it and I'm sure I was carrying an extra 10 lbs because of it. I was caked with mud and salt when I finished. 10k in 1:11:03. Fun!

I took yesterday off but did 6k or so this morning. Nice and cool, no humidity yet!

Clare - that race sounds AWESOME!!!

Running some miles after work. I slept in this morning.

Lifted last night and the chick killed me again. I normally do a group session (3 people max) and that allows for some down time between exercises and not constent watching. Both people in my group cancelled so I was by my lonesome and under the watchful eye of a trainer who wants everything just perfect (they alld o).

Man, leg extension followed by immediate ball squats SUCK. I hate ball squats and was doing all I could to get through them. I got in like 8 or 10 (I wasn't counting) and then she said "now hold for 20". I made it to 13 maybe 15 before collapsing on the floor. I'm sore.

Great work this weekend, everyone!

I worked out with little miss evil this morning (instead of the normal Tuesday). Need to figure out logistics for the rest of the week. I want to try the yoga class at the new gym, but I forgot to pick up a new schedule.

Clare, that sounds fun, and I can't believe you ran that fast in those conditions!!!

Nothing fitness-y for me this weekend, I was running around from Fri evening to Sun evening. However, I hope to get in a short run tonight (if it's not pouring) and I called a local gym that I'd heard has a master's swim group that doesn't require membership. They connected me to the guy who runs it and while it's not going on right now, he said they're planning to start it back up again pretty soon and took my info. He asked if I was interested in both the practice and competition....uuuuugh. I guess so?

clare - that does sound awesome. We have a mud run here on Halloween that I am really hoping to do.

I slept in this morning - Monday is typically a rest day. I am a little sore from yesterday's run (13.3) which is a little frustrating. My back is yelling at me a little too. Grrrr. Going to do stretching tonight - maybe a short run since the humidity has finally broken some here.

Colleen - sweet race!

boB - I'll be running New Haven, signed up last week. And my buddy Ben (who you've met before at the 4 miler in Cranbury last 4th of July) may be running it too.

Hi all - would've love to have slept in today. As it is, I'm here.

Not quite sure what to do today after a pretty good stretch of workouts since Tuesday. Could use the rest today (feeling pretty beat up today after essentially a double swim workout Saturday and a double run workout Sunday) but my typical rest day is Tuesday after my ART session. I'll figure it out...

Clare - that sounds like an awesome race; there's a race north of here where they run through a river and then a muddy beach. Runners who don't want to get their shoes wet and/or muddy can leave their shoes at the riverbank and then wade thru the water and run in barefeet down the beach to the finish (the race organizers take the shoes down to the finish for claiming.) Not sure if that was really an option there, though.

Good runs, workouts, and/or rest days to you all

Moon some people were taking their shoes off...both on purpose and by mistake! : ) But the terrain was kinda rough in spots, especially with the barnacles. So you'd want shoes there, for sure. There was just no getting around not getting dirty, that's for sure. I didn't bring my camera but some people did so I hope to get copies of those pics to share.

I know the Masters group I swam with for awhile had regular competitions (even traveling to other parts of the state and country), but I didn't do any of that (not enough time). It did sound like fun though.

clare: That race sounds like fun. The have a race here that is called the Muddy Buddy. It was so popular that they have started holding it in other places as well.

I did get a nice bike ride in for my birthday. Managed to ride my age which made my longest bike ride of 2010. A very good thing since I am doing a 115 mile ride in Vegas in October and need to get my mileage built back up.

clare - That race sounds awesome! I ran Camp Pendleton's Mud Run in June for the first time and loved it. I'll be there every June for as long as we live here. So.Much.Fun. Glad to hear you had a great race with a great finish time -- congratulations!

I returned from a 2 week stint in Oregon this last weekend. Had to make the obligatory trip up to see family and friends. Had a great time but I'm happy to be back in SoCal. Wasn't happy to find a few extra pounds this morning despite all my running while there. Phooey. Portland simply has way too many really good eats and drinks!

I ran a solid 7 miles this morning with two of my running mates. They had run 17 on Saturday (I did mine Friday morning) so they were still recovering but I felt great. It was an easy run and I especially enjoyed picking up the pace over the last mile. Gotta love a strong finish after a solid run.
