Good morning all.
Dave amazing job on the tri!
Asics - sorry the wind did not cooperate -- but great job in spite of it!
Ellen - look forward to hearing about your race...

Took yesterday off from running. Enjoyed the wedding Saturday night in NYC -- was great to see some of my old friends ...and to watch my daughters dance: too funny. We went to the Queens Zoo in the morning before heading back home - was the perfect size for young children.

Did 57 minutes on the trails this morning felt very good...

Yeah great job this weekend Dave.

Nice run this morning Loopy.

Did my race this Saturday. 1st overall out of about 100 (they don't post results)
My time was crap compared to what I was hoping for, but oh well.
I did a nice easy six later on to loosen up and round the day out for 10 total, then did another easy 10 on Sunday.

Looking at 10 probably tonight as well.

Good Morning, Everybody.
Hey, Mailbox, when's the last time you had a single-digit day? You are cranking, sir.
Loopy, I'll bet those trails felt nice the day after a wedding, if nothing else but the quiet.

I did five today. Was able to get out at 6, the wind was blowing hard and it was a mere 23 degrees -- not unbearable, but chilly for this late in the season.

Earth to Ellen. We're waiting....

Mailbox - Great job. First place vs. time? I'll take first (though it will never happen)

Ellen, oh, Ellen.......

loopy - glad your start to the week went well.

Baba - Nice, brrrrrr, job this morning.

No run for me today but a core workout there will be.

Hey all,

I've been a little MIA from the boards, but I've still been running and occasionally checking in. I'm still trying to get back into the post-injury running, and although I'm really ecstatic to just be running, I have really lost the urge to seriously TRAIN and/or race. I'll still definitely do the Shamrock Shuffle 8k in a couple weeks though, although I can't envision doing any speedwork before then. My past 5 weeks of mileage have been, 0, 0, 2.5, 18, and 24. I think I'm ready for 30 this week and hopefully 40 next week.

I'm actually considering changing my entire focus from the shorter, faster events to the endurance events where finishing is the main goal. There's actually a 50k coming up in a few weeks that maybe I'll do. I feel like I can run forever at recovery pace, and I'm liking that, but anything faster than "easy" pace isn't as exciting as it used to be. Maybe Spring will take away the doldrums. We'll see!

Morning all;

Currently, I'm at the car dealership getting shafted over a new rim... large pothole = large dent in rim... I swear the city has a deal with the car industry - crappy road construction = more jobs and sales for the boys.

Anyway, my schedule has 4 easy. Have to see how that goes.

Mailbox - Awesome job in the race! I have just decided to organize a race with people I know are slower so I can claim at least 1 OA in my lifetime
Loopy - great job getting out early. Hopefully, I'll be posting morning workouts soon.
Dan - enjoy the crunches...
Baba - nice run
4boysmom - hope the MRI offers a favorable outcome.
Ellen - don't mess with 4boysmom!

Have a good one.

Brother Nirvana - Lost soul. I am to a lost soul - trying to decide what runner I want to be when I grow up.

I just want to run and train because thats what I want to do. Last week I skipped 2 runs and ran short on 2 runs, in the past I would have written the week off. I also played volleyball, went swimming with my girls, took the youngest to the YMCA to play and drank a bottle of wine with my wife on Friday night - What a great week.

I actually felt almost like a runner this morning 13 miles with 45 minutes Tempo pace. T = 1 minute 15 seconds slower than last year and jimmie cracked corn and I don't care!

Good running to all -

Today's supposed to be an extra rest day for me, save for teaching two pilates and one yoga class. I am tempted to do some very low-resistance stationary bike to see if that loosens the legs. We'll see.

I'll put up a race report for yesterday's half marathon later on today.

Nirvana -- I am feeling the pull of longer endurance events, too. Yesterday was definitely evidence of that for me.

Mailbox -- congratuations on coming in 1st. That's got to feel good!

I have some race reports to catch up on. Looking forward to it.

Good morning all. A bit slow getting on here today. Trying to get caught up here at working after missing a day.

Mailbox - congrats on 1st.

Nirvana - How is the back coming along? Did you get your book?

We had a Ranger Assessment done this morning which include at VO2 max test. Don't know the results yet. Not an optimal day for me to do it, with the tri and all on Saturday. I ended up quiting from the legs burning, not that I couldn't continue, I just didn't want to pull anything. I still outlasted all but one.

Afterwards i went for a 4 mile run.

Yeah I've resigned myself to the fact that no speedwork=no PR's this. But like you, I don't care much about that. I ran 5 miles with my girlfriend at almost 10:30 pace yesterday, and to me that was as satisfying as any speedwork session of late.

Well the good news is that I can finally say my lower back is back to 100%. No pain at any time. I'm still the most inflexible person on the planet, but at least I'm not in pain any mnore.

As far as the book goes, yes, I received it, and while I was still less than 100% I was religiously doing a few of the exercises twice a day. I actually have a question for you Dave. Do you continue to do those exercises even after you're all better? Or is it more of a "do this only when you need to" set of exercises. I suppose that since it's only a couple minutes a day, I could continue, but I've stopped since I feel "better."

So yeah, the back is fine. My right leg is still a little off though. I occasionally feel a twinge of tightness or pain when first waking up in the morning. This is the same spot (sort of behind the right knee) that was injured when I pinched my Sciatic. So I'm happy that the back is better, but I don't think I'm 100% over the whole injury. I'm making sure to do more stretching before running these days, and I think it's helping a bit. However, I'm running at a slower pace as well, so maybe that's what's helping.

Asics-- This winter was brutal on the streets here in Salt Lake City also. Always dodging huge holes in order to save the car. Hope you have a great day.

Good morning everyone. Congratulations to all the runners over the weekend. Mailbox, David, Asics and ellen. I believe that was all the racers. I have 5 miles planned for the day. My body is sore and I think I might do some much needed stretching today. This will be a short recovery week and then the last 4 weeks before my 5k in April. I am thinking about getting a swimming pass to the rec center to use swimming as cross training. I am just trying to change things up and keep my body from getting injured. Not sure if my body has adjusted to the slight weekly mileage bump. Anyway, have a great day and keep on running.

Flounder and Nirvana-- Sounds like a good plan to just go out and enjoy the running. I think the need for speed will come back when it does. Just enjoy it and have fun.

Good to see you Nirvana. How's the cholesterol, by the way? Have you checked back in with the doctor on that? And what is your goal, if any, for the Shamrock Shuffle?

AHA! Endurance.

I've noted that quite a few people both here and on the team are not feeling quite up to par--me included. I have been trying to get back to my old way of running. I had my first really low week of mileage last week (45 miles), but it was also a week of high(er) mileage on the elliptical machine (40 miles). And that's what I want. The goal is equal time running and elliptical.

Phillip and have planned to do a 5k tonight--for me that will be a game time decision. I don't want to overdo anything at this point. I'm not hurt, but I also don't want to do anything to mess up anything. He will do it, regardless. His training is excellent right now. I would expect sub 25 for him tonight. His PR is something around 26.

Have a great day everyone. I am at home today. I'll check back in later...maybe Ellen will have stopped by.

I feel like it's getting better, but who knows? The doctor doesn't plan on doing another blood test for another 5 or 6 weeks. I'm thinking those numbers should be significantly better at that that time.

As for the Shuffle, I'll probably run it as fast as I can, but I'm not anticipating anything such as a PR (currently 30:25). I'm thinking I could make 31:30 a good goal, but I could fall anywhere between 31:00 and 33:00, honestly.

Some may depend on what you're doing. Maybe "beat Tonya" would be a good goal?

Got my core in. Expanding it a bit. Abs, lunges, planks, step ups, and bird dogs (?) 45 minutes in all.

I added my official 5k result to the Race Calendar thread - they bumped me down to 19.22. Oh well. I noticed that a guy who beat me by 46 secs last October, when I ran 18:52, was only 7secs in front of me this time... that makes me feel a little better about the time. Makes me want to do more speedwork.

Tonya/Nirvana: Note that for the Shamrock Shuffle, my goal time is 31 mins but that'd be a big PR for me. Realistically, anything under 31:30 is golden at this point. We could finish together - holding hands
