Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is having a chance to enjoy the Presidents day holiday. My son got up at 5:30 and so I am up. I hope to get in 5 miles later today. With the air quality in the unhealthy category I might have to run on the treadmill at the rec center. Have a great Morning everyone.

Hope the 5 goes well Kfuller.

Have a good day of workouts Richard.

Just got through reading the weekend threads. Some nice runs out there, and a pretty solid time out of Dave. Hopefully 4boysmom is feeling a little better.

Ok weekend for me. Got 15 in watching the 2007 Ironman on Saturday. I'll have to agree with Tonya on that, pretty inspiring. I felt really good, and would have gone at least a few more miles if I would have set up a few more water bottles.
8 yesterday a little faster than normal, but still pretty slow.

Looking like 12 or 13 tonight. Good runs later everyone.

Good morning all.

Nice racing this weekend Trecker, Roots, SGH, and Dave (congrats on the win, Dave!)...

I took yesterday off and I did 15 miles at 7:30 pace on Saturday morning -- was good, but a little on the chilly side -- had the full beardcicle in effect!

Completely different temps this morning -- 60! Did 55 mins on the wet/muddy trails. There were quite a few newly downed trees that made things even more interesting than usual...

Rest day for me. Much needed! Bruising on the inside of my left knee. Larger than silver dollar sized abrassion on the outside of right knee with a good deal of brusing. Smaller than half dollar sized scrape on left palm that really hurts. Removing the bandage resulted in quite the colorful language. Right shoulder hurts worst of all. And to think I did this run, rather than Last Chance for Boston, because my coach was afraid that if I raced, I would end up injured...

Loopy - nice going out there. Nice one on Saturday, as well.

The rest of you - have fun with your runs later today.

To crosstrain or not to crosstrain - that is the question for me today. I need to take a rest day as I haven't taken a day off completely since February 4th, when this whole slight-injury thing happened (it's almost all the way better, by the way--probably 80% right now, but I can run through it).

Anyway, February 4th I took the day off completely, then I ran two days, then I did the elliptical for 6 days straight, then I ran and did the elliptical one day, then I have run the last 4 days, giving me 13 days of running or crosstraining. I don't know...I want to take a day off, I know I need it. But. I can't force myself to make the decision. I'm supposed to start off a new week of training today, and this would be a scheduled off day anyway.

T'is a bit ironic Mom...get well soon!

Richard I don't remember if I ever answered you about before but my dad does own that butcher shop right in town in Pittsville. Have you ever seen it before? We've got a pretty decent boat collection here maybe you can buy off.

Loopy I'd give anything for a day of 60 here to melt off the track, but noooo, we're getting another 2" or so today on top of the 6 we got yesterday. Oh well, at least school got delayed!

Sprint workout tonight on the TM which always sucks since it takes so effin long just to switch up to the right speed and incline for each rep. Oh well...It has to be done.

Hello!

I am off today and before I travel back to the flatlands am going to get a long run of anywhere from 10-16 miles in. We will see what this hilly course does and if it breaks me .

loopy, sounds like good clean fun on the trails. The beardsicle can be a good look!

Looks like everyone else has runs ahead of them, so I hope they're good ones.

Today I got up early and did a 10 miler at 8:04 pace ( a little faster than I was planning on) . I have only run about 10 times in all of 2008 and my wife suggests to me on Saturday, "You should do that half marathon with him, you guys will have a lot of fun."

So i will be a pacer for my friend who hopes to run at a 8:30 pace for the HM this sunday.

Alex-- I could go for some melt off here also. Starting my official training next week and if we don't get warmer temperatures soon for a few days in a row the track I run on will be snow covered. I guess I will have to figure out something else to do for speed work.

Tonya-- Take the rest day.

Today I went to the rec center and got in 5 miles in 41:00(8:12). I was halfway through mile 4 and I wanted to finish 5 miles but there was someone waiting for a treadmill. So about the last half mile I worked my way up from the 7:30 to 6:44 pace. It felt good to go that fast and I wonder how long I can hold that pace right now. Hopefully faster than that for 5k. Have a great morning everybody.

4boysmom - Laughing through my tears - glad you are resting.

I'm gonna try to do some swimming today. I bought one of the Total Immersion books. Does this make me a Kool Aid drinker? Fine wif me, if so. So, Lesson 1 today, which involves learning balance by floating on front, back, and sides and rolling between those positions. Seems incredibly basic, and that's just where I need to be.

I haven't been running since, oh, Thursday. I am planning to run tomorrow. Believe me, I'm very much looking forward to it.

Billy-- I am thinking that I am going to start swimming on Friday's to get some cross training in. I have not done serious swimming since High School and it could be fun to do it again.

HOLY SHIT! I hope it's not April 17th. If so I should be leaving for Boston in 2 days, and I completely missed my taper. Oh wait. No. I wouldn't have missed it, considering over the last two weeks I've missed out on 2 speed workouts and 1 long run, and two weeks ago I only had a 16-something mile week.

Good Morning! I have a day off work today. Looking forward to spending time with the kids today. We might go to the park today if the sun comes out.
4boys-heal up!
Tonya-rest
Mailbox- you are amazing to kick out all those miles!

I ran 9 1/2 miles yesterday. I was shooting for 12 miles. I ran a marathon 2 weeks ago and my knee hurt the last 6 miles of the race. It has felt fine until yesterday at about mile 4. It was a really hilly run (hard to avoid them around here). It seems to feel better on the flatter terrin. I iced it after the run. I think I am going to try running a short 3 on a track today. I need to start picking it back up for Boston. Yikes! Any advise???

Cheers to everyone!

Ok, so we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. Doesn't that mean that Boston's over and we should be getting some race reports from Tonya et al

4 boys - all that change adds up to a lot of pain I'm sure. take care of yourself.

Tonya - DAY OFF!

Billy - Swimming can be a very humbling experience. Requires a good sense of humor and a lot of patience.

Mutthound and Loopy - Nice going this morning.

Richard, Kfuller, Mailbox - Have good ones later...

Core for me today. Maybe a bit on the stationary bike. Had to give up my coach cause of money issues. Guess I'm on my own for awhile.

Good morning all, and happy day off from work, to those lucky enough to have one (not me, unfortunately).

It's a gorgeous day in the DC area...60s today! Just my luck today is my rest day. Winter in this area is so crazy...last week we were down in the teens and had ice. Oh well, I need the rest day after going 18 on Saturday, spending 6 hours on my feet working at the marathon yesterday and then playing indoor soccer last night. My legs are definitely tired.

This week will be a bit of a step-back in the intensity. I'm planning on only one hard workout this week, and then easy runs or cross training the rest of the week. Then on Sunday, I've got a ten-mile race planned, the "club challenge" race. Bottom line I'm hoping to go into that a little more rested than I've been lately and try to nail a good time down for myself and my club team.

Tonya - Phill needs to hide your running shoes somewhere...take the off day!

Loopy - nice trail run.

Rainie - I'd keep it easy one more week. Marathons take a lot out. If the hills are bugging you, stay off them until next week. I think you'll be OK, you're just still recovering.

kfuller/Alex/RichardC/Mailbox - have a good run later.

SGH/4BM - enjoy the rest day.

Mutt - nice of you to drop in. You targeting any races right now?

Billy - have fun floating, rolling, swimming, whatever it is you're doing today.

OK, gotta go. Back to work.

I had some similar issues a few years ago when I was first getting back into running and trying to ramp up quickly. I don't know your running history, so this might not be applicable, but what I figured out that my problem was is that a lot of the stabilizer muscles around my knees weren't as in shape as the rest of me. I could go pretty fast and far, but eventually those muscles would tire out and give me big time knee pain. What I ended up doing was getting those little elastic sleeve things for my knees to kind of help with that, and wore them every so often if my knees were starting to act up. Eventually, everything strengthened up, and I don't need the sleeves anymore. Your case might not be an exact mirror of mine, but it's possible that some things are still weak for you because you ran a marathon very recently. The only real advise I can give you is the standard, listen to your body, and back off when you need to. You still have some time to acclimate yourself to hill workouts even if you wait a few weeks.
And as far as my mileage, it's pretty easy to put up big numbers when you run so slowly. We'll see where I am in late March once I start adding some faster stuff.

Mailbox-- I know what I meant to put early this morning. I guess I was just tired. I don't think you can change the thread title, but under my first post I changed the date. OOPs!!!! Thanks for the heads up.
