Usually Mondays are my rest day. But the forecast was for a nice low humidity morning, so I couldn't pass that up. 61 degrees, 65% humidity. So up and out for 12 miles with a fast finish planned.

I had a fairly consistent first 7 miles (after the warm up mile) and then the last 3 miles were progressively quicker(before cool down).

Oddly, since I got sick 2 or 3 weeks ago, my Resting Heart Rate won't settle back down. I played a lot of recreational basketball before starting to run and my RHR has never been where it's been lately. It was 58 this morning, at least 10 beats higher than it usually is. Weird.

A lot of long runs yesterday by this group. In addition to the ones that I already mentioned in that "other" forum, we had Robin (also playing bumpercars yesterday), Arrojo, Mike, and Paul. And even a long run (relatively) by Dave.

One (1) mile on the indoor track for me today since it was 65 degrees colder outside here than for Bill, resisting the temptation to keep speeding up or going longer. One day at a time for now...

Have a good start to the week, everyone!

61 degrees.....how nice would that feel!!

4 miles in 15 degrees with a wind chill of single digits. One of those runs where my eyes were watering, my nose was running....well, you get the picture. Glad only a short run was on schedule today.

Happy Monday!

Nice run, Bill. Last time I got really sick, my RHR was elevated for several days after I felt recovered.

Nice runs there guys! Gin, I couldn't face that weather like you did. It was 10F with 20 mph winds this morning. So it was back to the TM for a quick 6 at progressive pace, finishing at 8:07/mile (50:53 total, 8:29 avg). Based on the forecast I may be back on the TM again tomorrow.

Late Wed afternoon DW and I are flying to Italy (Florence) to vist DD who's studying there this semester. Have any Kicksters been there? I'm trying to figure out some running routes. The maps of Florence make the town look like a maze. I'm hoping my Garmin Forerunner 205 can rescue me. I better learn quick how to use the navi system - like the "get me back where I started" function. I have to do another 18 miler there. It should be an adventure, seeing as I'm a stoopid Amerikan who can't speak the lingo...

Bill - another nice 12 miler after Saturday's!
MB - your puppy is adorable!
Roch - good to see you running and staying conservative.
Mike - nice 6 miler on the ole TM. Brave of you to do a LR in Italy - enjoy your trip!!
Gin - glad it was only a short run for you today -way too windy out with these low temps!
SS - what's this - you're racing - congrats - I'll have to go catch up on this weekend's threads!

I was like Mike - chose to stay indoors with the strong winds and chilly temps. I just realized I told my kids it was 21 degrees out - that was really the relative humidity reading - it's only 14 degrees out now - no wonder it felt sooooo cold waiting for the bus this morning!

I came to the realization that I lost a lot more conditioning than I thought from the layoff. I guess without any injury to my legs, I thought I could just jump back in at only a little slower pace and less distance. I had a minimum speed I would set my TM on before and I've been trying to keep at that "lowest" speed that I would allow on the TM the last 2 weeks but have come to realize I need to step it down even slower in order to complete my runs. I guess I rather distance for now and hopefully speed will come back sooner or later.

So 6 steady miles on the TM.

All Italian cities are like that. When I used to travel there on business, there was another runner who would regularly show up an hour late for dinner because he'd go out and get lost. At least the Garmin has the display that shows your current path and you can use that to head back in the right general direction and eventually zero in on where you started from.

Watch out for cars going through red lights, people parking on the sidewalks, etc.

Since there's a "whatever" in the title...I'm exploding with joy! We have a new boss. We've had "interim" co-bosses for about a year, and the power went to the one guy's head. As promised, they're bringing in someone new. (Okay, I reserve the right to gripe later if it doesn't work out!) Mr. Jerk will still be a problem, though, because he's still Litigation Director.

I'll run after work, maybe on the treadmill, depending on the weather.

I fit into the "whatever" category today as I won't be running. Working all day, then my son has a basketball game this evening. Tomorrow though I'll be doing a morning workout at the gym. After I drop DS off at school, I don't have to report for grand jury duty til 10 a.m., so that gives me a couple hrs and I can get a longer mid week run in, albeit on a treadmill.Tomorrow ought to be a long day of GJ though - a child/sex case in the a.m. and then approximately 6-7 felony cases in the afternoon.

Have a good day everyone!

4.9 brisk miles with FIL's dog. The sun was glorious!!!!!!!! single digit temps with wind but we loved the sun. DD#3 works along the route and she was happy to see the dog....Not me though...I left my wallet at home.

Pink, I'm with you on the distance vs speed thing.
We have the same glorious sunshine here as SteveP.
A sprightly 4 mile walk this morning felt great after yesterday’s long run. School was cancelled because it’s a cold day making for a leisurely Monday morning. Have a good day and good workouts, rests, and massages! Enjoy the gift, especially the surprises.

Got creative today and ran in the parking garage at work - the idea is to run on the 4th level below ground - less traffic and fewer toxic fumes - ummmmmm ... okay??? It was better than I expected - warm, solid footing and I was not the only one down there.

4 miles, 57 degrees, 6:15am.
Listening to radio this morning instead of my own music files. Thought it might be fun to hear the dj's discuss the Grammys last night. Then a really good fast-paced song came on near the end of the run and I got to push even longer than I anticipated I could. So much fun to come zipping around the corner where all the kids are standing around, waiting for the bus. I like to imagine all their long hair (yep, the boys too) blowing back in my wake as I whoosh past! Maybe someday I can hold that pace for a mile or more, or even for a whole 5K or 10K.

Hi everyone. I went down to NYC this morning to see Westminster and just now got back home. I walked a couple of miles in that freezing cold weather (It was 6 degrees when I left this morning, and is about 18 now). The dog show was fun but disappointing as the sister to one of my dogs didn't even make the first cut. Oh well. She's still a champion. One fun thing though -- I got invited to the "sky box" by one of the dog magazine publishers b/c I write book reviews for them. Nice buffet there, even a private bathroom! So that was a lot of fun.

Susan, hitting the treadmill tomorrow morning.

I came over looking for that elusive Johnny. Where is he?

I'm still all excited about the democratic caucus I went to over the weekend. What a cool thing to experience. It's quirky, but it made me feel like I was actually part of the process.

SS -- saw the mention of you racing so had to go take a lookie! Geez, nothing like tipping your toes back in the waters... by summer, you'll be flying high again.

I ran a Valentines Day 5k yesterday with my buddy Steve as a teammate. Still hoping for that sub 21:00. Not to be. 21:28. Need to remember it helps to sleep and rest the days leading up to races, even short ones.

Ta.. um, major cut back week. Rowing and yoga tonight.
