Morning all

quite a few miles on the snow shoes with my nephew this passed weekend and probably a couple more if I get home in time tonight. The best part of freezing your ass off in winter is doing it on snow shoes.

Hola all.

Today I should be going to spinning. However, I remembered that I have a blood donation appointment for 3:15pm tomorrow afternoon, which certainly means that there shall be no 5:30pm run. (at least I figure it would be pretty stupid to try) Therefore, I will abandon spinning tonight to get some miles on the treadmill, instead.

Bi/Tri/Core work will be done at some point today.

Good Morning!

I ran 13 yesterday and felt okay. A bit slower than I hoped it would be but it's all good. It's going to take me a bit longer to bully myself back in shape than I thought it would. It's more about the back/leg pain than fitness, so I'm finding it very frustrating since it's not something I can really push through.

I have an easy 9 to get to today, I'm in no rush since it'll be a long day with MNF. It kills me when the game starts at my normal bedtime! So, is it going to be snowing hard there tonight? It's going to be really neat watching an outdoor NFL game up there!

Have great runs today, folks!

Morning Gang -

Wippy - I ordered snowshoes for me and DH as a christmas present. I can't wait! They look fun. We've never done it before. Should be something good we can do together to get him moving!

Get out there for your outdoor run Bob!

Yep, looks like 5 - 6 inches, beginning around noon and continuing til midnight. It'll be crazy.

I got 5 slow miles done this morning. Footing is sucky now in the hood, so my recovery pace is ultra slow.

Good runs to all today!

Rest day for me. I ran 13 yesterday. I was way slow and it was harder than it should have been. To make things worse, I am sore today. Bah. Busy busy busy around here and I was unable to go to yogalates last night. Hmmff. Tomorrow fitness will be better.

Morning all.

Picture of the newest member of the Beaker house hold is in the fun thread...

I ran 2 yesterday and got my arse handed to me by little miss evil this morning.

Jen - would it help to focus on something besides pace while you get through the pain? Heart rate or something?

morning

Ran almost 6 on Saturday with some hill loops ...meh - footing was iffy to say the least and the first loop I missed the turn and ended up running 2x what I should. Things look different in the winter :)

10.25 yesterday morning and that is the farthest in a long time for me (maybe a month and a half). Ok pace in the lower 10s. The lakes were finally ok for the most part. Lifted last night....oy..and then did some Dance Central.

Running after work 3 or so..unsure of when i will get home with the snow coming. Traffic has been a bear lately.

MNF should be pretty awesome to watch...I am too much of a baby to even think about going. BRRRRRRR

It'll be a memorable one, for sure!

I had one of those runs Thursday -- the ones you wish would last f.o.r.e.v.e.r. What was remarkable about it, though, was that it was on a treadmill! Seriously, I could have run for another hour or two on it. It was just awesome.

8 yesterday with my running partner and then 3.5 this morning for boot camp. Normally in boot camp we run a loop and stop along the way for drills, so we run a bit and then do lunges, run some more and stop for pushups, run and stop for plyometrics, etc. Today we just ran -- FAST -- and got back to the Y as quickly as we could. We did a 3.5 mile loop in 29 minutes, which was a much faster pace than the group typically runs. I was proud of them! Nothing like a wind chill of 12 to motivate you to run faster.

Morning all! Late night brownie baking for the office kept me from running this morning but since today is my Friday I can get a mediumish run in this evening and still have time to pack/drink extra coffee/get things ready for flying down to OBX tomorrow. WOOT!

School is letting out two hours early today and likely going to be cancelled tomorrow. They're turning our kids in to winter weenies!

I'll be hitting the mill on my lunch hour for 2-3 miles. rah. Alexis - what's the secret? How can I have an awesome treadmill run tooooooooo???

Well yeah, that's how it seems to be at this time of year. And I suppose it's even worse for the Canajun folks who live farther north...

I was just thinking... If I'm gonna be running in dark today no matter time I go out, maybe I should wait until about 2:30am for my run. It would probably be pretty neat to run during a total lunar eclipse, eh?

I keep thinking Bob is Brandy b/c of the husky avatar. Bob, is that a new addition, or do you just like that dog's expression?

BigG, I have no idea how it happened. Normally, I tolerate the treadmill at best. It's very rare that I actually have fun on one. I wanted to do something different, so I decided to do a fartlek run on it Thursday. Just speed up for however long and whatever pace whenever I felt like it, then slow back down. My paces kept getting faster and faster; I was having a ball! (Even the recovery/steady pace went steadily up as the run progressed.)

I wish I could tell you the secret, but honestly it was just one of those flukey all-is-right-with-the-world kinda runs.

Brandy - glad you guys got the package. It's overdue, but sent with heart. :)

2oh - ugh. I know how frustrating this is. No matter how much swimming or biking or other cross stuff you do, it still isn't the same as being able to go out for a run. My advice? Tap into the Kp/Fidat wisdom. They've always steered me right.

Maria - Have a BLAST with the Pfeiffer clan in OBX. Jealous.

I feel awful again. Fever yesterday, still fighting this congestion today. Went to the doc, so hopefully the meds and inhaler will help a bit, but I'm pretty sure I'm taking another rest day today. Best I could do was a walk around the block yesterday. Grr.

I just like the dog's expression. I have no idea whose dog it is. I just saw the pic somewhere and decided to use it. But hey, if it's too confusing, I'll change to something else...

Btw, the more I think about it, the more I think I really might go for a run at about 2:30am tonight (tomorrow morning) during the lunar eclipse. Am I crazy?

Some updates re: Boston Marathon in future years although nothing definitive stated in the article: http://www.boston.com/sports/marathon/articles/2010/12/19/mcgillivray_baa_will_make_adjustments/?camp=localsearch:eek:n:twit:rtbutton

VERY nice, Theia!

I read that article earlier. My take is that there will be a 2 step entry process, letting the faster runners enter first, or have the option to enter at any time. I hope it's around sub-3:15 for the gals and sub-2:45 for the guys. Mindi, I also wouldn't be shocked to see the general qualifiers drop by 5 minutes. I'm glad they are doing something.

9 easy miles done here this morning, almost 30 degrees cooler than my race on Saturday...not funny, Florida.

It sounds like they will phase in the qualifying window thing though, so those of us who ran and qualified in sept of this year will still have it count for 2012 (assuming the time itself still qualifies though). I don't like that idea about a two-phased entry process though and letting the super fasties enter earlier. (no offense, Jen and other super fasties!)

I'm sure a lot of folks feel the same way you do. Chicago has something similar (elite development program), sub 3 ladies and sub 2:30 guys get to enter after it's filled, up until close to the race. This isn't a huge number of folks, usually less than 200. NYCM also has a sub-elite standard that is a bit more relaxed than Chicago (3:05/1:27 for the gals) it doesn't pay your way but you get a lot of the benefits of the invited elites. For me, it's a nice goal to strive for. I think that rewarding speed in a qualifying type race or a marathon major is a nice way to motivate folks who are close enough to think about working for an OT time (over a matter of years), but still far enough away they just can't call up these races and ask for a bib.

Gear question:

we've been looking at the options for being a little safer on icy roads. My running partner tried one and they broke on the test run down the block. What brands do you have that work well? Has anyone tried the drywall screws in the soles?

I have a pair of ice cleats thingys that I got at the running store. I wore them last winter with no problems. Don't remember the name..maybe petzel?
