It's contagious...I decided I'd take today off for extra healing time and besides...I'm in a taper/cutback week so it's a good thing I guess.

Seems like some recovery going on on this Monday. I will run for you all today.

I'm not sure of the distance today, but I ran and hiked for 1hr 45min in the hills above the neighborhood where I grew up. A little hazy, but sunny and comfortable 55F at 10am.

Trails were perfectly dry and included a couple 1,000 ft climbs in the dry East Bay hills. The long pounding downhills quickly reminded me that I'm a midwesterner and that I'm probably not ready for a race like Western States.

Being at home is healing. Feels good to reflect a bit on my youth.

Track tonight, and it was muggy! Yes, muggy! 70 degrees and humid, but also windy.

My workout was 5 X 800 and my times were 3:33, 3:30, 3:23, 3:28, and 3:29. With warm-up and cool-down just 4.5 miles tonight.

While cooling down I had my coach hand me Dixie cups of water to try to get smoother at water stops and drinking on the run. The other runners got into it and acted like aid station volunteers yelling "water" "Gatorade" -- it was funny. I still spilled a lot, but am doing better with pinching the cup and sipping. We runners need sippy cups!

Our group went out for dinner after as it's the last group track workout for the time being. My coach is relocating to Northern Va. I've had fun with this bunch, and hope we run together or race together again.

Good thing to practice! I've found I have to dump out about 1/4 of the water if the cup is full in order to pinch/drink. So I grab, dump, pinch, sip, breathe, sip, toss. I was successful at Baystate doing this, and only walked twice when I wanted another cup of water at two aid stations.

Vogel told me, as fast as he is, he still walks through water stops! So, perhaps I'm not saving that much time running through, but once I start walking, it's hard t get going again!
