it's that time again! I haven't purchased any for the last couple years, so I feel like I should support the Girl Scouts of America this year.

I love thin mints - in the freezer.
And Samoa's.
Someone told me the Lemonades are real good too.

No one knocks on my door either. Not even the jehovah witnesses . . .

I think fewer and fewer GS's are actually going door to door anymore. I did when I was a girlscout, but I think it's becoming too much of a safety issue anymore. So, usually I see them outside stores like walmart or grocery stores.

I got my usual four boxes last week. 2 each of Tagalongs (chocolate covered peanut butter) and All Abouts (shortbread cookie with chocolate on one side). They reside in my desk at work since that's where I buy them, and they'll be there through April since I always forget I have them.

They were in the supermarket walkway last Sunday. I told them that I would love to buy some but my Butt said I can't. They LOL at that and said I could donate to send cookies to the troops so I did that instead.

I actually have half a sleeve of thin mints in my freezer. Not sure what year they are from.

DD was a scout for 10+ years. The GSA discourages door to door selling and prefer the cookies be sold via telephone (to family and friends) and at tables set up at stores.

Never could get them to set up outside a liquor store. I still say they would have sold a ton!

In Canada there are two versions. The traditional chocolate and vanilla are sold in the spring (big controversy a couple of years ago when they changed companies and the old company wouldn't give up the recipe claiming intellectual property) There is a sale of mint chocolate in the fall. The traditional ones are far more popular. When my daughter used to go door to door, she would get sales at 80% plus of the houses that opened their door. More addictive than crack cocaine. (am suggesting they use that as their slogan). Wish I could invent a product will the same appeal. At $4 a box they are not cheap, but they are very good.

Thin Mints in the freezer? Why put an empty box there?

Hmmm, I see an entrepreneur opportunity here. Next year I'll buy a case of Thin Mints and sell them at exorbitant prices to all the Kicksters. There's no danger in me eating them since they're not my favorites.

I'll be rich! Rich I tell you!!

We used to track the ages of the kids in the neighborhood (at least the girls) by who came around selling cookies each year. This year I think that they've all aged out of it because nobody showed up. But at least I ended up buying a couple of boxes from the group in the foyer at Kroger's last week. Thin mints and the traditional shortbread cookies are my favorites.

Gordon, I would definitely buy from your girls but I think the cost of mailing them to me would end up costing me more than I want to spend. darn! I'd much rather support a GS that I sort of know, through their dad, on a running forum, about 500 miles away . . . .

Lab in a short skirt selling cookies eh?
