I know there are a few of us here--Road Hawk, Pace2Race, TG (and bugdude), just wondering with all the new folks if there are others.

I'm in Lebanon, right off of I-44, about 2.5 hours from St. Louis and an hour from Springfield. Any race is a drive for us except for one local 5k. I grew up in Warrensburg, just east of Kansas City--dad was stationed at Whiteman AFB from 6th grade through high school for me and then by the time he was transferred I was in college in Springfield and married, so I've been in Missouri about 22 years now.

Missouri was mentioned a couple of times in the Feb. Runner's World! It probably wasn't a first but it was cool. Apparently the Blue Springs Trail Marathon was the smallest marathon in 2007 with 25 participants, and one of the newest marathons in the country is the Bass Pro Marathon in Springfield--the first was this past November. I hope to run the half marathon this coming November.

Well? Anyone out there?

I think Giggly is from the KC area.

I used to live there, Sedalia. Sure you know where that is. Still own a home there and plan on retiring there in about 15 years! Hopefully this thread will still be going by then so I can hook up with everyone!

I definitely know where Sedalia is. I might run a half there in March, haven't decided yet--there's a closer race on the same day. In high school we drove whatever dad let us and for a while it was a 1965 primer red Ford Fairlane...we used to open all the windows and crank the stereo up and I would drive and my little sister would be on the lookout for the highway patrol while we drove (fast of course) from the 'Burg to Sedalia, usually to shop, a couple of times to meet friends. We could go there and mom wouldn't throw a fit while KC was a little too far for her liking, although we did go occasionally whether she knew or not . As an adult I've been there for the state fair a couple of times. Lots of things have changed but a lot of things are the same, like the movie theater is still there where my friends and I saw "Ghost" when it came out, which of course made us all cry.

There was this article in our electric co-op magazine about a local burger joint that's pretty famous in Sedalia that is closing down. I don't remember for sure but I think they're famous for some sort of burger with peanut butter? That might not be right but apparently it's a local icon. It's right at the intersection where Highway 50 comes into town and a lot of people are very sad to see it go.

If I'm still running in 15 years that will be awesome! It will probably be here before I know it *trying hard not to see my sweet baby boy at 19 --he needs to be a baby for a little longer*

Theres a half in Sedalia? When I started running, I contacted the running club there, there was about 10 members total!

My husband lived in the "burg" for a long time and played in a band there, so he knows that town well also.

Yup, the Wheel Inn was the drive in with the hamburgers with peanut butter on them. Tons of people loved them, but I never had the guts to try them, they just sounded bad! But yeah, it was a huge loss when they took it town. It really was an icon.

Yeah, the state fair, thats the 10 days of the year when all the locals hide out!

I've been gone now for 5 years, and I cant believe the changes that town has gone through just since I have been gone! Havent been back in over a year now, but am going to check on the house in the spring. (Before the horrible humidity kicks in! )

heehee, thanks for the memories!

I'm a former Missourian (grew up in St. Louis) and will be returning to visit my family and run either the half or the full at the St. Louis marathon in April. I sure do miss the Midwest!

I signed up for the 1/2 in Sedalia this weekend. I've run it once before. Good course for a PR attempt. Hope it's not to cold. I'm also running St. Louis Marathon April 6th.

That would be the Wheel Inn. I had many opportunities but was never brave enough to try it. Sedalia has gone corporate. They have a Starbucks down the street from the Wal-Mart now.

Hi ya'll - I'm a little west of you in Topeka. Holler if you make it out this way for some races. I haven't done the St. Louis half or the Sedalia half, but I know our running club usually has a showing of a few members. So if you see any Sunflower Striders jackets wave hi!

I'm bootsie, now! I wish I would have never changed my name! LOL!

I'm just about 30 mins north of KC in St Joseph. I really haven't participated in many races in the area in the past year. I've been dealing with a reoccurring stress fracture in my shin that just will not heal! I'm hoping to get healthy again and get back out there on the road.

Maybe we can all meet up at a race that would convenient for us all sometime...

Had I known a little earlier about a "Brew to Brew" relay team I could have gotten on, I would have been there. Looks like fun and I would love to do it someday.

Brew To Brew is a great race! Last year, my running partner ran the whole race solo! She's amazing!

I may be in the KC area sometime towards the summer--we usually take my stepdaughter to the airport up there when she goes to see her mom in the summer, so we make a couple of trips up that way. Last summer I did the Night Flight 5K in Lee's Summit with a friend while I was up there to pick up kids. It was at the end of June when we were getting so much rain, but it stopped raining in time for the race. However the drive in the blinding rain was terrifying!

Hi, I'm moving out to Columbia (MO) in the summer, and I'm looking for good places to run there. I'm also probably going to run their Half Marathon Challenge in October. Feel free to PM if you've got any tips.

It looks like I am somewhat late to the party, but I am from Olathe Kansas. Just started running again, and plan on running my first 5K in July or Aug.

Hey! I'll be running the Run for the Cure in Kansas City in August. It's a 5k if you are still deciding on races.

I am a Columbia MO runner! I've run the Sedalia half a few times, as well as the Louis and Clark in St. Louis, and a bunch of other ones around the state.

Better late than never, right!?!

I'm from Poplar Bluff, Mo; about 2 1/2 hrs due South of St. Louis. Like lkschiller, I have to drive to get to anything. We have a few 5K's around my area throughout the year but I'm new at the race event...but I'm already hooked!

I've lived in PB all my life except for when and where ever the Army has taken me. I was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX from 93-96 and lived in Austin, TX till 98. I've been to Iraq once and Afghanistan once; although it looks like I shall return to Iraq soon enough!

I haven't run for ME until recent years and I end up being very spiratic in my training. I will do great for a few months, then I'll get bad shin splints or something happens and I end up stopping; for whatever reason!

My next 5K is on November 21st in Farmington, Mo at the Mineral Area Turkey Trot. I've only done two 5K's previously with my PR being 29:30 but I'm hoping to improve that!

Also (for all the NW Mo KR's), my unit is in Maryville, Mo so I get up that way quite often!

Welcome Rob! Sorry--I haven't checked this thread in a long time. It's nice to see a new face from around here. I've been to PB but it's been many, many years...my ex had a good friend down there who he met through his Nat'l Guard unit in Springfield.
