Mini-Essay: On Youth Gone By

Ten years ago when we moved in to this house we installed a swing set for DS. He is now sixteen so the set doesn't get much use anymore - hence the title. I realized a few days ago, though, that it would make a great subject for me to practice my photographic skills, and the following are some of the better shots. As usual, comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. In this case I'm thinking this could make a decent photo essay, so if you have comments on my sequencing I'd appreciate them as well.

Wow, nice stuff! I love the swing shot - that's a very interesting and unique point of view. I really like the leaf shot and the one with the two rusted, two new screws.

I think we do! I have discovered that while I love lots of different types of photographs, what I really like to photograph myself are details and stories. I love beautiful scenery photos but an totally intrigued by photographs that tell me something, like the two new and two old screws. There is a whole story there.
As for any stories, though, I don't know what they would be. Maybe the swingset has a secret life I don't know about.

I think that's the point though - the stories are internal to the viewer. That the story is there is what makes it a great photograph.
