they did a 'sentinel lymph node biopsy' and the surgeon thinks things look cancer free but pathology test results will be available early next week and we all hope her lymphatic system proves to be free of any cancer ... will find out then what plans are for chemo and/or radiation ...

she woke up and was very lucid quite quickly after surgery ... that was good ... she's been eating alright this evening and has been up and walking around ... hoping to come home tomorrow afternoon, after her doc sees her ... sil is up from FL and is an RN and will help take care of her while recovering and having the drainage tube in for the lymph node drainage ...

we're all hoping the cancer was encased in the breast tissue and that it's been irradicated with this surgery.

It is good news if they didn't find anything in the lymph nodes. Here's hoping!

I was conderned when the doc told us that they nodes ' lit up blue' ... lighting up was a BAD thing when daughter had a CT scan and MRI and her pituitary tumor was discovered ... but I got home and researched this and found that it's the desired result to identify which nodes are the sentinel nodes (first lymph nodes things pass thru out of the breast tissue before going into nodes throughout the body) and NOT a cancer cell identifier ... whew ... sigh of relief ... I don't know how the surgeon determined her outlook of the nodes looking good at this point but I'll take it till we hear anything else ... apparently a lot less complications from the lymph part of the surgery are likely to occur when only the sentinel nodes are tested and the diagnosis is still very accurate for detecting cancer ... less invasive with less complications sounds good to me ...
