This actually started last summer when I went into Kohl’s to buy a pair of regular casual shorts and had a hard time finding a pair with less than a 9” inseam, which in my opinion I really look goofy in. Way back when I was in my 20s, we all wore shorts that were pretty short. Cutoff Levis were in vogue, and we laughed at our parents in their long “Bermuda” shorts (of course, the black socks and wingtips didn’t do too much for that look either).

Now of course, it's reversed and kids my son’s age wear baggy shorts at or below their knees, and I think they are grossed out by guys my age who are showing some thigh. But hey – I’ve worked hard at running to get legs like this, which are frankly the best part of my anatomy these days.

So the other day when I was browsing online for some new running shorts, I took note that the big manufacturers like Nike, Asics, etc. are showing running shorts with 8 or 9-inch inseams. Is this the current or coming style? Can you really run comfortably with all that fabric flapping around your legs? I measured my current favorite shorts (see avatar), and they’re more like a 4” inseam. Am I committing a fashion faux-pas by still wearing shorts like this? Do younger people see me and quickly turn their heads away?

I need to figure this out before I put down my hard-earned money on an updated wardrobe.
