There are posts in that thread about taking a punch where men talk about hitting a woman back if she hits first. Men, would you hit a woman if she hit you first? If police were involved, do you think you'd be treated the same way as the woman who hit you?

I would not hit a woman. I'd like to think I wouldn't hit a man either. I think the police would treat a man hitting a woman differently than they would a woman hitting a man. The man being hit is probably a pussy (the cops would think)

Situation by situation. If my wife got mad enough to hit me (surprised it hasn't happened yet), I feel confident enough that I could shut the situation down without hitting back (even though she's had some training in how to hit people).<br><br>
On the other side of the coin - if I was in a bank and a woman came in to rob the place and got violent, I'd hit back.

So let's use a spouse situation. Woman hits her husband. Attacks him. Jumps on his back, scratches, hits, kicks, blood is drawn. Men, would you hit back?

I cannot imagine my SO ever hitting me. I have to admit, if he ever tried it, my first instinct would be to hit back, but hitting back never solves any problems on either side.<br>
There sure has been a lot of talking about punching in the PRT lately. I'm waiting for a brawl to break out....

I know I'm not a guy, but I think that no matter the gender, the person being hit shouldn't hit back and escalate the violence. Protect or defend yourself, get out of the situation, but don't lower yourself to the same level.<br><br>
Even Krav Maga teaches that if you can get away from your attacker, that should be your first choice.

I'd try my darndest to restrain. As a pretty big guy with some martial arts background, pretty sure I could restrain the vast majority of women who were trying to hurt me. Certainly I could restrain Mrs. Pete in a situation like that.<br><br>
Most areas have domestic violence laws that state if the cops get called on a domestic violence call, they <i>have to</i> make an arrest. If your woman gets violent with you and you jack her up in return, I'll give you one guess who's getting arrested that night. (kinda a side note, but there you go)<br><br>
Edited to add: I met Mrs. Pete at karate. We both have 3rd degree black belts, although we haven't been actively training in about 4 years. She's got more weapons skills than I do, so if she picks up the nunchaku, I'm screwed. I could totally take her in hand to hand though. We always made the joke that we acheived peace through MAD.

I hit a women once when I was in high school. I was drinking from a water fountain and she came up behind me and pushed my head into the bubbler. I hit my tooth so hard that it chipped. She didn't even know me, she did it on a dare from her friends. I chased her and punched her in the gut. Neither one of us ever brought it to the teachers attention. That tooth is still chipped to this day.<br><br>
That being said, it was the only time and I would only hit another women if she was attacking my wife.

I'm going to have to go read that thread, but I really don't know how I feel about this. We have a societal paradigm that women shouldn't be hit, but why? Because we're the weaker sex? What happened to equality? Or does that only matter when women want it to? I guess I'm thinking that in any case where one would hit a man, they should feel free to hit a woman. What difference does gender make?

I'm jaded. One of my regular gigs is the domestic violence docket. For every case where a man just flat out abused a woman, there's another case where a woman threw a beer bottle at a man, scratched his face off, and then called police when he pushed her down. And the man gets arrested.

as always it depends. Violence should only be a tool of necessity for either gender.<br><br>
if i'm in any immediate danger, I'll do whatever it takes to not be in danger anymore, if it means hitting/kicking/whatever a woman then sure. Pretty straightforward here.
