Go, racers, go!

Golf last night wasn't as bad as I expected. Fitness plans are up in the air, but I'm hoping to get at least 8 miles in over the weekend for a new monthly total high. We'll see.

Good God, no! No race today. Thank goodness. I'm in no shape for a race today. I stayed up too late and drank too much beer last night watching hockey. I slept like crap. And this morning my allergies are killing me. I found out a few years ago that I am allergic to grass. (!!!) So I really have to load up on the antihistamines when I mow the lawn. Well, the allergies seem to be getting a little worse every year. And on my run this morning around my neighborhood, I swear EVERYBODY was mowing their lawn at the same time. I could smell the grass and feel it clenching my throat and my sinuses. Ack! I ended up with 5.4 miles, which is a lot less than I had originally planned. And it was a lot harder than 5.4 miles should have been. I guess it's hard to run when you can't breathe...

Okay, sorry about all the whining. Good luck Parkers, Theia, Solar... NCRG too, right? And Maria again? Anyone else??

Rest day for me, which is good because my foot is still a little buggy. Hopefully I'll get my 11 in tomorrow. I have a half next weekend (It's attached to a wine festival...hooray!!). Sadly, I've decided to throw any time goal out the window and just focus on enjoying the run.

Almost ideal conditions today here: temp inthe 50s, no wind, no sun and despite a brief shower about 30 min before the start no rain. By my garmin my time was 2:04:46, not a PR but the best HM time since Madison on '08. Felt great, did the best I could, ran well all the way through the end and did not get passed by a single half marathoner in the last mile - the third overall marathoner got me in the last quarter.

Hope thing went well for everyone else today!

Mornin' peeps! I got out for a split run this morning, ran down to the start of the Great Hudson River Swim to cheer on a fellow runner and the other swimmers and then ran back home after the finish. Super cool event that def. caught my interest. 8.15 mi total.

Great job KP!!!! I hope everyone else racing (I'm not this weekend) is having fun!

Hi all - great job KP! And speedy vibes to all the racers this weekend.

Sitting around and recovering just plain sucks. I plan to make the most of this down time, but I guess it's in line with what a lot of you have been dealing with of late.

Cranegirl is also running a half marathon tomorrow! Here, in my town! I'm a little bit wishing I was running too. o well, inspiration for next year.

We went to the itty bitty expo, cheered on the 5k runners - a couple of friends of mine were running it. O, and we met Carrie Tollefson!

Way to go, KP!

I had a good race yesterday, relatively speaking... The swim has always been my most uncomfortable part, but I've been really working at that. It paid off! I positioned myself well and felt good the whole way. 7:08 split for the .25mi (or so they said it was). Definitely a strong swim for me. I never stopped, and I was one of the first people out of the water from my wave. I even passed a few people from the wave ahead of me. Woot!

My T1 is another story. This was the first tri where I had to deal with a wetsuit and it slowed my T1 time down a bit. I also took extra time cleaning my feet because of how much sand/muck/grass we ran over getting into transition. Looking at my T1 time, you'd think I sat and had lunch in there, too. Awful.

Then my bike leg was expectedly a bit slow. 12 miles in 41:43, or 17.3 avg MPH. I knew that would be slow -- I definitely need more biking time. T2 was MUCH better. Just :46.

My run was decent. While my Garmin read 2.91 mi/23:13 = 7:59 pace, the official results show my 23:12 time as a 7:44 pace (they advertised it as either a 3 mi or 5k run -- I forget which), so maybe my Garmin calculations of the distance were off? Whatever. It wasn't the best run leg, but I felt ok about it considering I haven't really done any actual brick workouts.

SO, overall it was a good day. I knew my T1 and bike leg would be my weakest, but for my first complete tri in 2 years, I'm ok with that. It was fun, and that's the point, right?

I headed right to the beach after the race and had a fun afternoon with friends here, and this morning I was out early for an easy 10.5 miles. Now it's time to hit the beach!

Good luck to today's racers! Go get it!

YAY Lora!!!

I'm in the process of weighing out balls of clay (50lbs worth, enough for 25 bowls) and will be throwing a buncha bowls this afternoon. I really wish they'd quit warping when they dry where i cut the slit. Not sure what the deal is with that - I don't remember having this many warp before. (Although I've never thrown this many in the same period before.) Means I need to throw that many more bowls.

Hi Everyone-

Now that work is a little less intense (I hope, I hope), I am going to try and post more this summer. GREAT job Solar--I can't imagine doing tri's at all and speedy run time! Go, NCRG and healing to both Moonie and Bob.

I hope you figure out the cracking, Kath. Heh.

KP ROCKED it at Bayshore--and I predict good things in his future. I was originally going to run that but had a wedding to attend. However, I did run MedCity and finally have two running things to report this spring--one is that I ran my fastest mile every in RFTC a few weeks ago. (7:50 thanks to a little help from a pacer). Still wasn't a PR for that distance, but you know, RFTC's are so crowded at the start, it's hard to get any kind of speed on.

Today I ran MedCity (thankyouthankyou to Jenn who fabulously hosted and sherpa'ed me--she got up at 5 AM!!) It was pretty hilly course, but I was really happy with my results considering I'm not the best racing shape. 2:08:30 clock time, 2:06:24 garmin.I really felt like I gave it what I got right now, and had neg. splits for almost every mile except for a huge hill--my last mile my fastest at 8:51. I'm hoping for a good training summer and really hope to make it into the TCM 10 miler--it's my goal race.

Hope you are all well--I've certainly peeked in from time to time and watched your wanderings on FB. Welcome to summer!

OH!! BigG and I met Carrier Tollefson and she was very kind and supppperrrr tiny, but apparently rushed so we didn't feel OK asking for a photo. We also were going to see her speak, but when it came right down to it, had other things to do. :) "Sorry, we know you are an important Olympic athlete, but we're kinda busy..."

Yay Kevin! Did anyone at this race comment on your ass?

WOOT Solar! You guys that do triathlons are awe inspiring to me - just for doing them, and when you do them so well...
I totally stole this and put it on my FB page. But I did credit Mindi.

Indeed Crane ran a rockin' good half marathon today! She is the epitome of run fast, run pretty. And a charming houseguest to boot!

I am confused about the negative splits thing, I thought negative split meant you ran the last half of the race faster than the first. What does negative splitting a mile mean?

They've made some really good changes to the MedCity race this year, although the first 8 miles are still the rolling hills. I hope to run the half or full next year. Sherpa duty was fun and easy, I'd totally do it again! Though I've now lost my voice - a couple hours of yelling GO RUNNERS! STRONG WORK! YOU CAN DO IT! LOOKING GOOD! SMILE FOR THE JUMBOTRON! will do it. It's making it really hard to yell at the dog. He doesn't understand angry looks and hands flailing around.

I don't know how it got to be 11. I should be exhausted. We spent the afternoon landscaping and gardening. My hannnnnds! My spiiiiiine! oy.

And......marathon training starts tomorrow. eeeks. The weather better cooperate for a short run because my gym is closed and my treadmill dismantled.

bedtime.

Happy Trails!
