I was officiating at the finish of The Chilly Half Marathon today.

It was sunny, calm winds and 1C (33F)

About 1/2 of the runners who run under 1:20 wore shorts

None of the runners who took more than 2:10 wore shorts.

People could have been home almost an hour earlier if only they wore shorts!!!

JC, honey, I could run nekkid and I'd still be slow. Unless some perv started chasing me. Then I'd be slow and molested.

Maybe I should run nekkid.

No...maybe I could have handed out medals faster if I did.

The last place women completed the half marathon course in...wait for it...4 hours 58 minutes...WTF????

How could someone go that slowly and still keep moving forward.

We are talking 23 minute miles when a leisurely stroll is about 16 or 17 minutes per mile.

I can't believe they let the course stay open for that long. And was this woman wearing a parka (as that would correlate)?

A liesurely stroll is 20 minutes a mile. 3mph. I have to push it to go faster than that (though I can)
My half this morning was took 2:40 -- and I was running the whole time (no walking) except for porto-breaks.
BUT.. I was wearing tights.

They sent them to the sidewalk and told them aid stations would be closed when they fell behind a 3:20 hour pace...which was at 7 km.

BTW walkers and pokey runners could start an hour earlier to ensure anybody who moved at any speed at all would have support.

The two women were dressed like runners, appeared to be in their early 30's and had no obvious physical issues.

QN you are probably closer to the truth with strolling being about 20 min/mile. One who plans to train for and walk a half would hopefully be able to go at least .5 mph faster which would be 3:45...and bring them in 35 minutes before the course closed.

I'm guessing they stopped to eat.

Definitely an interesting theory!

The guy who won the Topeka to Auburn HM (and it was between 10-15F this year) wore this:

Wow, this one jumped from the March archives.

Yesterday at a 15K race I only saw 3 people wearing long pants or even capris.

I'm thinking the 90 degree temps may have had something to do with that.

Ha! I didn't even look at the date of the original post. I was kind of wondering where the hell it was 33F!

I worked an aid station for a trail race this weekend. It was hot and humid and I saw one lady in long sleeves and long pants. I'm surprised she didn't drop dead out there.

It was snowing where I ran this weekend. True, it was up over 6000 feet, but still.

I wore shorts today on my 11 miler. Still have another 5 or six miler in an hour or so.

I was way slower than when I wore the capris in march.

Then again...it was 80 at 6AM...will prolly be 90 for my death run in a few!

The second run I'm wearing a pink skirt w/the bubbly pink tri top and new pink nike hat.

Hopefully pink and bubbles will make me faster!
