Ken, you don't sound a day over 39.

Labduck, ^5 on the mileage. It's great to see you coming back.

I had one of those magical go-forever runs (not the tomwhite variety). I stopped to give a lost election official directions to our town hall. There aren't many signs here, and not a single street light. Just the way I like it.

Happy birthday to Ken and good dental luck to Millbot!
I had a good walk/jog this morning. 10 mins walk, 10 mins jog, 5 mins walk, 20 mins jog, 10 mins walk. Lots and lots of stretching afterwards. Feeling good now although I'm at work and my face is STILL beet red. I'll slap on a little makeup in a couple of minutes before I have to face any library patrons. My skin is still hot to the touch.

Happy Happy Ken

Good Run Millbot, nice to have a run like that ever so often.

Foot continues to improve, but maybe, big maybe, I'm getting smart enough not to turn a small nusiance injury into a tough langorous one. So I did a short session on the core machines at the gym this AM, and may do another this PM. I feel confident on actually being 100% for the trail race on 11/24.

Nice run Mill, someday soon I am going to have one of those. I am thinking when I get to my Mom's and can run on the dirt trails may be the time.

I don't know how I forgot about elections what with all the garbage in my mailbox. I will stop on the way home as it was raining too hard anyway this morning.

Tomwhite, atta boy -- go have a hiking adventure

Sad news in our running club. Today's paper just reported that one of our running club members has been missing for several days. His truck and belongings were found near an area where I often run. The club is putting together a search party for noon tomorrow and I will participate. I can't even begin to imagine what has happened to him. I'm trying to stay positive but so much time has already passed that it can't be good.

Thanks for the B'day wishes, I'm going to try to sneak out of work early today.

Choovie-yikes! Let's hold out hope that everything will work out OK.
ksrunr-"slowing down" to 7:47's" for 11 miles...WOW
Susan-It's good to see that you didn't have to start over with the C25K. Must feel good.
JJJ-You sure are inspiring. It must be great to be so close to great trail running like you are. That seems like something I could get into. We have some trails but they are a bit of a drive to get to. How long have you been running?

nice 11 ks.....you are really running well right now.

tripleJ.....keep babying the foot so you are ready for those Harlan hills

hally....vote several times just to make sure

tw....have a great hike in the morning.....should be perfect weather for it....wish I could take off and hit some mountain trails myself.....maybe on Sunday

hoovie....I hope your running club member just ran into an old girlfriend and decided to head for vegas or something....hope it works out that he's safe.

The rain I expected today just zipped through the area overnite and now it's sunny again. The trails probably won't even be muddy. Should get in a nice easy outing of 5 miles or so this afternoon with a bit cooler temps. Can't wait to get out there.

I want to be Ilene when I grow up. Check out her RR on CR.

Choovie, I hope they find your friend safe, that is scary.

PJ, sounds like just right running conditions to me

Rain is supposed to stop here too, but with the darkness after work I will have to start taking to the boardwalk or the treadmill.Been waiting for cooler weather and now that it's here I forgot about the darkness factor.

There is a preserve with a crushed shell over dirt path on my way home but I don't know if I want to run there in the dark. Time to charge up those batteries for my headlamp I guess.

Choov, I hope they find your friend. That dosen't sound good. Keep us posted.

Thanks Ken, I have to pinch myself sometimes. Keep lookin for those trails, they aren't always well advertized. Public parks are always a good source. I've been running regular since Jan '06.
Happy birthday Ken!!

choovie - keep us posted on your running club member. That's so sad.

Johnny - I have nothing to contribute to your garmin thread as I'm even more techno challenged than you are. You, however, are a master of gps systems, so I know you'll figure it all out quickly. When we do our long runs together, you just tell me how to run and all will be good.

I like the plank talk from yesterday. I've been consistently doing ab work about 4-5 times a week now and am noticing good results. In addition to regular crunches I do the front planks, but have also tried the side planks. Those are hard! And I'm only doing the beginner ones where I'm resting on my forearm. Choovie & SS - you are yoga queens! I aspire to do them with a straight arm like you both do.

starting today, I'm abstaining from refined sugars and coffee. Back to green tea each morning. I always feel so much better when do this, but there is something so comforting about my morning latte. The first couple days are hell to me - I get cranky and irritable. Going through my drug withdrawal I guess. but by about day 3 I feel so much better. I'll treat myself to a good cup of jo once in awhile, but for awhile I'm going to purge my system of the addiction.

heading to the gym at lunchtime for 3-4 miles . . . .had to squeeze running talk in here somewhere. . .

Ken- Happy Birthday!

Choovie-hope they find him soon. Best of luck in the search.

Millbot-I love when that happens! In the zone!

Tamster-what? No sugar? I think my body would die! I admire you for doing it. Good luck!

I haven't run yet. It's been raining steady and I'm being a wimp. It's supposed to stop by the afternoon. I am hoping to bring the kids with me to the trail and they can ride their bikes while I run. I did do some upper body weight training and 20 mins of yoga.Hope the rain stops soon!

DH just stopped by my office and needs to use my car for a few hrs - which of course, is right in the middle of my what was supposed to be my lunchtime run. So, having that disrupt my running plans, in addition to already being irritable due to no coffee or sugar, is about to send me postal. I can tell that this day, maybe even this week, is going to suck.

Sorry to laugh at your, hmm, misfortune Tammy, but your post reminded me of the air traffic controller from the movie Airplane:

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking."
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue."
I hope your week doesn't get that bad!

Tamster, maybe you need to meditate a bit. I do understand what it's like to give up caffeine; I did it 3 times when I was pregnant. It was awful. I did a lot of praying and meditating to get through it. Sounds like this is turning out to be a bad day for you.

Now I have 2 cups of coffee every morning and it's one pleasure that I'd never willingly deprive myself of.

Will this day ever end? I have to work till 6pm, ugh. It was pitch black outside when I left to go to the gym before work, and it'll be pitch black out when I head home. I hate this daylight savings crap.

Happy Birthday Ken

Here in Oregon we vote by mail, up to 6 weeks in advance. I miss actually going down to the precinct to vote. Only 2 issues on the ballot, an 85 cent a pack tax on cigarettes to fund health care and a revision to a land use issue. (refraining as hard as I can from editorializing)

7 miles in the foggy woods at 9:30 pace, wearing the injinji socks for the first time, little piggy didn't like being separated from his brother, but once I put the shoes on the new socks felt OK. I usually wear wright socks and just recently got a pair of some balgo?? socks which I really like.

Tamster- Maybe you should be on your own at the race this weekend, either that or harness your anger to an even faster PR. I wouldn't want you to go all postal on me

choovie- keeping my fingers crossed and thinking positive thoughts.

nice run millbot, good luck at the dentist.

ksrunr - maybe one day I'll be able to use "keep slowing down to 7:47 pace" in a sentance while referring to myself, but somehow I doubt it.

change of topic:
I'm going to walk/run a 5K on Nov 18th. I've never done this particular one before; nor have I done one in late-ish November before. Any suggestions regarding clothing etc? I live just north of NYC. It could be quite cold, like in the 30s or 40s.
riley......tomwhite heads up the racewear committee, so check with him on approved items. Choovie used to chair the group back when it was known simply as the fashion committee, but it was discovered that she used the "jacket tied around waist" approach at an event and was subsequently ousted.
