It was indeed lovely weather! I'm not sure what the temps ended up being; mid 30's to mid 50's?

I can't imagine trying to run MMTR 4 weeks after Grindstone. And Hellgate is, what, 6 weeks out now? Impressive! Good luck at Hellgate!

I managed a 6 min course PR of 11:44. My stomach went wonky on the climb up to Long Mountain Wayside (halfway point) and I was seriously consider dropping. I had 25 min on the cut offs though and decided to keep hiking up Buck Mt. Some Pringles at the top were nearly an insta-fix and I was able to maintain an ahead-of-the-cut-off pace from then on. Lost about 5 min in the loop and another 5 in that first aid station after The Loop (there's surely a Horton mile in there). At least I finished within time and finished the Lynchburg Ultra Series.

Overall it felt much less painful this year. I managed to something to my right ankle/achilles though. Looks a bit bruised. Maybe a little swollen. Massaging it doesn't really hurt (unless I hit the bruise) so I figure I banged it on something.

Sorry it took me so long i havent gotten on here lately. Great job Mobius for sticking it out. I didnt have a great race either, I managed to finish i think in 10:02:00 ish, but i am usually around 9 and a half hours. I went back and looked i was 7 min ahead of my PR going into the loop but i fell apart after that. Somehow in my head i did the math and i thought i was around 11 hours, so i just took it down a notch and cruised in, well i guess my half dead, trail math was a little off and i should have kept pushing...lol.

When i crossed the line i thanked Clark and Horton for moving Grindstone up a week so we had less time to recover. I told him they finally did it, they moved Grindstone close enough to Masochist that you think you are recovered but you really arent...lol

Good luck out there at Hellgate!

I've got a 50K mid December. My ankle fully recovered from MMTR but my left knee is being a real stinker. I thought it might be a minor MCL strain but it may be too low for that. It's almost feels like IT Band pain ,but on the inside of the knee focus on that "knobby" bit of the Tibia. I know a bunch of stuff attaches there. It's getting better, slowly. Too slowly for my tastes.

I've been mainly walking/power walking since Masochist with a little jog now and again. It's getting better, just too slowly for my tastes.

The 50K is one down in VA Beach: Seashore Nature Trail 50K on the 17th (http://tidewaterstriders.com/seashore50K/). It's a fast course. Very flat. Bit of sand. I notice the photos on the website are mainly from the first year when we ran during a Noreaster. The trail was a bit muddy (an understatement). It was my first ultra so I like going back. Thus far I've gotten slower every year :)

HI sk8dog! Funny reading this, just went to see if I knew you from the race results pictures... sure enough you are the person I thought. Meri gave you away :)

I picked your brain a bit at Grindstone about the series. Stayed in the tent space near you at Grindstone and talked to you at MMTR too. I am the girl from CT, first time running all these crazy VA races :) LOVE IT!!

I will reintroduce myself at Hellgate if you don't remember me. I hope you are recovered and ready to go at Hellgate. I was ready about 2 weeks after MMTR and now I am just wondering if I still feel that way. Hellgate is the only race in the series I did last year so good or bad I know what to expect. Ha.

See ya soon.

Yeah, last one!!! It is a bit of pressure. And it is a tough course :) And the weather looks questionable, uh oh... everything is OK here. My daughter was sick the last 2 days, I refrained from hugs and kisses (even on her bday :(, so hopefully I won't get sick.

I hope you are feeling better!!

We are all driving down, 2 cars. 5 of us that run together here in CT are in, 3 in the Beast, 2 on streaks. One of our runners has done all the Hellgates so far. One of the runners is on his 5th Hellgate and the Beast. We should be there before dinner on Friday.

Although I would love to tackle the Beast again, it is just too much travel!!

See you soon!!

I agree that is a long way to go, especially for the 3 50ks in the spring.

i am also going for my 5th Hellgate, and of course the Beast as well, this will be my 4th Beast.

I cant wait for the big eagle trophy we get for 5 hellgates.

they are calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow here tomorrow night, so conditions may change for the race pretty quickly.

I ran from aid station 5 to 9 last week and the course was in great condition, in fact the best i have ever seen it.

someone did a lot of work on the Hell section, between aid station 7 and 8.

hope you have a safe drive and see you Friday night !!!!
