Hey everyone! This week I am getting the thread in on time! Sorry again for missing it last week. I hope bhearn had a great race in San Francisco!

My mile race was very sub-par. In fact, my slowest of the 5 years I've done it: 6:21. Not sure why and it doesn't seem helpful to dwell on it, so I am moving forward. Guess that means I better start putting in some decent mileage!! 11 weeks til Chicago!

I only logged about 25 miles last week, with arm workouts and pilates. Have been insanely busy with work, so I need to revamp my schedule moving forward. I initially planned to bump right up to 60-65 mpw, but there is no way that's going to happen. I'll keep you posted.

Happy running.

I'm tired. I'm trying to train for my November marathon and a sprint tri in two weeks at the same time. The combination of long run on Saturday and brick workout on Sunday has left me drained. Must. Have. Day off.

Anyway, still right on marathon schedule.

M - swim + core / strength

T - 6.6, including 3.5 AM and 5k XC PM (22:52)

W - 4 (plus strength)

Th - 4.3

F - Bike 17.7

Sa - 14.2 (10.5 AM, 3.7 PM)

Su - Bike 10.5 + run 3.3

Total: 32.4 (plus 28.2 bike)

Hope you all had great weeks!

Hey all,

Hope everyone's week is getting off to a good start. Also looking forward to seeing how bhearn did in SF, seems like a tough one. I had a race cancelled Saturday due to lightning, was planning to do it as a training run so I'm not too bummed. Some folks I know did the Bix in Iowa the same day and that was a wet one as well.

Runninglaw - sorry the mile didn't go as well as you hoped. Hang in there.

Swallen - good luck with the tri/marathon training, the xtraining should help with your base.

M - 6 Easy on treadmill in Cleveland

T - AM: 4.5 Cleveland lakefront, PM: 8.8 steamy at the Track back home including 4 x 1600 at (6:44, 6:51, 6:59, 6:59)

W - 8 - only could run at lunch so did treadmill to avoid the heat and turned into a progression run.

Th - 12.1 Medium Long Run

F - 5.6 Easy

Sa - 10.7 with first 6 easy, picking it up last 4

Su - 20.1 - Last 2 were tough, but 1st 20 of 2010 is in the books

Total: 75.8

Next week is a bit of a cutback, which my legs can probably use though they are actually feeling pretty good. Happy trails, folks.

75.8 miles? In one week?

and a to runninlaw as well, 6:21 is nothing to sneeze at! I'm impressed!!

So last week was my highest mileage week evah - coming in at 44.25.

Mon Rest

Tues 4 Tempo

Wed Easy 8

Thur Had to drive to WI and back so I pushed my 4 miler to Friday and tacked my 3 miler on to Saturday's 17 miler to make it a VooDoo 20 Mile run.

Fri 4.25

Sat 20

Sun 8

Started off this week running my scheduled 3 miler BEFORE WORK. yea! I never can get my arse up to get running before work. Now I'm going to try super duper hard to get up early enough tomorrow morning to get NINE miles in before work. oof. Going to bed at 8 p.m. tonight.

This weekend I have 9m pace and 12m LR to do and we're going camping. urk But we're going to the same State Park we went to last time so I know there's a great bike path that I can run out and back on. So I'm bringing my running gear and planning to run. We'll see how those plans fare.

Happy training all!

Hello everyone! And a big congrats to Bob on yet another impressive marathon finish and Mindi on tearing up the Capitol Mile! My week felt a little disorganized and thus I missed a few miles but nothing major. Decided to jump into the Queens HM for my LR last weekend b/c it was blazing hot and humid and I knew people running it - ended up having a great time taking it easy and enjoying the company of some running buddies while drinking copious amounts of water and Gatorade.

M - 5 miles ez / 90 mins yoga

T - rest

W - 8.55 miles w/6 x 800

T - 9.3 miles ez

F - 7.7 miles ez

S - 13.1 miles ez (Queens HM)
S - 8 miles ez

Total = 51.65 miles

Big G - great job on the pre-work running!

Swallen - nice work on the TRI training!

zrun - sweet mileage - very jealous!

Thanks runninINnyc, cool that you had fun at the Queens half - I was toying for a while with the idea of coming in for the Bronx half 8/15 but decided there was too much of a chance it would be ridiculously hot. Now that I'm not going, it probably will be perfect weather :) Actually, the Madison half 8/21 is tempting but I think I am going to be out of town that weekend. Are you planning on that one, Runninlaw?

Congrats on your record milage week - Big G. Way to raise the bar. Also have to give Bhearn props for cranking out yet another one in SF, I don't think my quads would ever forgive me if I ran that one.

Thanks everyone! It was a lot slower than I wanted, but we really had a great time. You are all very inspiring - I am really thankful for this thread.

zrun - I am doing the Madison Mini in August. It is a MUCH better course than the Madison Half and last year we had slendid weather. Bummer you can't make it. Try to schedule it in next year and I'll buy you a celebratory beer post race. :)

I just noticed Bob didn't check in here - for those of you who didn't see, he logged a 3:22. Not too shabby with little running and lots of mountain climbing since his last 26.2.

I might even come out to Madison if somebody buys me a beer.

Well, I'm still in "pre-season" marathon training mode, but it's starting to look a little more like the real thing. I did a long run over the past weekend of 11.5, with 3 of those miles at MP. I do have just a little bit of summer racing to get out of the way first, though.

Tonight I hit the track for my club's mile and 3000m championship races...I'll run the master's mile for sure, maybe even jump into the open mile (where I will have absolutely no chance vs. several sub-5 milers but what the heck), too. The 3000m isn't broken up like that, they just run everyone together. Then next Tuesday is the club's 5k championship race which will cap off my summer race season.

Question - anyone ever do this race? I'm looking for an early October half or ten miler and I like the fact this is partly on trail surfaces. It's about a 60-90 minute drive from where I live, though the early start time would definitely mean a Friday night stayover. Just curious since it fits the schedule fairly well. Other option is doing Baltimore which comes right before taper time for NYC kicks in.

Well, I did OK last night. Nothing spectacular. 5:44 for the mile, 11:29 for the 3000m. It was hot & humid so that may have had something to do with it. Or maybe the fact that I ran doubles two consecutive days (11 & 10). In the mile I got out slowly, picked it up a bit but then when I really wanted my legs to turn over, they just wouldn't go. As with the 5k I ran two weeks ago, I was barely even tired when I finished. Weird. In the 3k I was really just looking to run evenly and I did, running between 90-93 seconds every lap, so I was pleased with that.

5k next week is on a road (actually a paved bike path), a simple out/back course. It's pretty flat & fast. Last chance for sub-19 this year...admittedly it's a longshot given my best 5k in 2010 has been 19:27 and more recently I seem to be in a slump.

I'm still thinking about the WV race. It looks pretty cool.
