Hi all! I had a big "break through" this week on why why running performance has sucked so much (aside from the heat). First, I realized that I probably have low iron and my diet is just not up to par. Second, while I am great at drinking a lot of water, I am just not getting enough electrolytes and am not doing a good enough job of post-long run nutrition. I started taking an iron supplement on Thursday and have noticed a huge difference already. I also started adding nuun to my water for more electrolytes and am hopeful that will help some too. I almost bailed on my half marathon this Sunday, but ran it conservatively thanks to 70+ degrees and 95%+ humidity and ended up having a really nice workout (1:47:5x). Then went to Chicago for the weekend to play. They already have all the 10.10.10 signs up, which is exciting, but the chances of me running it are very very low. My focus for the next couple of weeks is to get back to 100%, which I don't think will take too long, bu will take more than a handful of weeks. I hope you all had a great week!

Morning all and Happy Monday! I had a really nice week in terms of feeling better about my running and digging myself out of the pity party mojo-lessness I've been feeling as of late. I even scored some nice rainy weather for my LR which helped tremendously with the humid conditions. Feeling more like myself than I have in awhile and it feels great!

Mindi - wooooo hoooooo, so glad you're getting your mojo back and have some answers as to what's been going on.

Great news on the breakthrough! Hopefully, this gives you a head start toward getting back to 100%!

I had a good week, too. Took a couple of vacation days this week to hilly Brown County in south central Indiana, so I took the opportunity to spend a couple of days on the bike. We caught a break and had a very pleasant Saturday here - it didn't get above 75 until about 2:00, so the long run was great and right on plan.

M - Rest

T - 7 miles, including 4 x 1 mile @ 10k race pace

W - Bike 8 miles

Th - Bike 25 miles hilly

F - 4.5 mile trail run

Sa - 15.8 miles

Su - 7 miles HMP

Total: 34.3 miles run, 33 bike

First trail race since March this Saturday, then half-marathon next.

Hope you all had a great week!

Yey runninlaw on getting some answers! I'm going to investigate the iron supplement dealio as well.

I am envious of your good running weeks! Mine was a paltry 14 miles. I ended up putting in OT at work on this project and my runnig and family life suffered greatly. ugh.

Great to hear lots of mojo returning. Mindi I wouldn't bail on Chicago just yet, I think you're still in the game.

Maria - your weekend LR weather was much better then mine. I would have loved some rain.

SWallen - I remember Brown County well from my days in Bloomington. Beautiful country out there. Sounds like you really took advantage.

Gahoona - sorry about the work hours. I've been there and it sucks.

My week was a very good one despite some awful DC humidity. I've since escaped to the mountains of western North Carolina, at least temporarily anyway.

M 8/17 - 6.4 easy, last mile at tempo
Tu 8/18 - 4.5 mile trail race (31:09), 6 total w/ warmup & cooldown
W 8/19 - double, 12 total all easy
Th 8/20 - hill repeats, 6.9 total
F 8/21 - 6.9 trail easy
Sa 8/22 - long run planned 18, cut back to 14.5 midway through due to oppressive humidity.
Su 8/23 - rest/travel for vacation

51 miles total, happy with that despite having to cut back the long run. Best mileage week in quite a while.
