Okay.. so the title is a little strong for those not into boxing or MMA, but work with me here!

I'm up, letting breakfast settle. Then I'm out the door for 10. Gonna head to town (as opposed to the treadmill or road by the house) for the first time for a run since the break in. It's time.

Good morning ladies. I just got back from the park where I completed my scheduled 4.5 miler. The temperature was warm already at 8 am. But thankfully it was a very cloudy morning and for most of the run the sun was obscured. At one point I looked at the Garmin and it read 3.6 miles. That was today's breakthru point I suppose. That is when the wimp inside me said "suddenly my stomach feels funny, I'm tired, this is taking too long, blah blah blah". I kept focus that obviously today that last 0.9 miles WAS the actual run. That was where I made it past the mental and physical limit that my body wanted to set today.

Hopefully 3 weeks from today I will typing my 10k report.

Good luck and well wishes to our runners today.

Good morning, ladies and Maples.

Good luck racers! Nice work, Maples!

I did 15.8 miles this morning. It was a chilly 39 degrees when I started, then a balmy 55 by the time I finished. I had a nice consistent pace throughout, so I'm happy with it. Ugh, I gotta go about twice as far two weeks from now. I guess that's just now beginning to freak me out...

We ran out of time this morning so J and I stopped at 11.5, and I was walking around where my car was parked and it started to rain. I hopped in and just as I shut the door it POURED. 11.9 in 2:50. Good enough.

Amichel - Hey.. when did you get to doing 12 miles!? Holy crap! Suh-weet!!!

10.3 today in the first reminder of the year of what Georgia summer weather is about. Holy crap it was muggy and sticky. Finished up with about 72 degrees, but 88% humidity. Yuck! I was wringing sweat out of my skirt AND braided ponytails when it was all done. However, I must admit that the scenery was beautiful with a rainbow of whites, pinks, purples, yellows and reds with all sorts of plant life blooming. A couple of rather regal-looking German Shepherds also made me smile along the way.

I've said this before (and will openly admit that for 2 of of the past 3 weeks, I've done nothing about it), I have GOT to get more core work done. My legs could have gone further today. Easily. My lower back / glutes / obliques on the other hand were not in agreement. I think I need to find a little 15 minute workout on DVD (butt tape?!) to force myself to get that work in. Meh.

Morning gang...

Switched up my long run to today since I don't have to be at work until 1 pm and the weather forecast sucks for running tomorrow. 12 miles scheduled with 8 at HM pace. Broke the 8 miles up into 2x4 miles with a 4 minute recovery. Goal was to be as close to 9:00 as I could for as long as I could. Ended up averaging 9:14. Then after a short recovery averaged 9:50ish for the two miles home. Best long run/workout I've had probably since before Madison.

Maples - super excited for you about the 10k in 3 weeks. You will do great!

Yipee for Lora having a good bridges run - can't wait to hear details.

I got 16 miles done, with the last 3 faster (around MP, I guess). It wasn't the best feeling run, but it's done. It was awesome to be able to run at the trails in a park and have them be snow-free!

Back from my race! It was way slower than I would have liked, but it ended up being wicked hilly and today was just not my day apparently.

I looked at the elevation map (above) prior to the race and thought I'd have a decent chance for a strong race it I took it easy the first half and hammered it the second. But unfortunately, the course wasn't like the elevation map. Well, it was, sort-of. But instead of a general incline, there were lots of big uphills and downhills throughout. It definitely kicked my @ss some. This is how my garmin recorded it:

The good news was I walked away with 3rd female and 1st in my AG. I was a little disappointed b/c by mile 2, I knew I was off PR pace. Yet, the 1st and 2nd women were way ahead of me and 4 was a good minute behind. So I never had real fire in my belly. But I was happy with my placement and it was a good hard workout. I ran on my friend's Cancer Sucks team - she game in 2nd for the 5K woot. The boys all did it too - but that was a bit of a debacle (don't ask) and that didn't help my mood yesterday or today about it.

I am trying not to be discouraged by my time (~2 minutes off my goal) because, hey, I did just run 75 miles last week. I have a 20 miler tomorrow and then it is taper time, baby! Woot. And I am feeling ready for it.

Great work out there all!! Some long, long runs and some nice paces in there!

Update: Official results in.

Runninlaw: 46:10 (10K)

DS#1: 27:34 (5K)

DS#2 & DH: 35:37 (5K)

The boys were 1st and 2nd place for kids under 13 and my friend's DD (who is our GOTR asst. coach) was first girl under 13. But they did not have any awards for that age. We were all freezing anyway though so we skipped awards.

Yay RIL! Congrats!

How did B&B do?

Great running by everyone else!

The race this morning was super duper cool. I'll write more about it later -- I'm sneaking time on the computer in FLA and head home tomorrow. Won't have a computer till probably Monday, so it'll be a few days, but I'll definitely write up a report on this one.

Short version: I wanted to enjoy the race, hopefully hang in the 8mpm pace range, sneak some faster if the heat didn't kill me, and have my leg hold up. All of that happened. No calf issues, ended up with a 8:04 avg pace (mile 6 killed that -- I sunk to a 8:31 for that mile when I was really feeling the heat), and enjoyed the whole morning.

Final stats:

gun time: 55:01

chip time: 54:55

136 (adjusted) OA -- I'm not sure of final # of finishers. There were more than 1800 registered runners, but those who weren't done by 1:30:00 in the race were picked up by a bus and driven to the finish

5/96? AG

And a fun finisher's medal and free beer at the end :)

Woot! LORA! 2011 is definitely a new year for you, girl!! Love it. Enjoy FL! I'll look forward to your race report when you get back.

It was coldish here this morning, but ended up bee-u-ti-ful. Hope it is not too hot tomorrow for Marier and crew. Good thing it is a relay rather than the whole sheebang.

First, off, kudos to you Lora & Mindi! Super duper awesome races! And great runs posted by the rest of you

Well, I FINALLY got to talk to the doc and it was pretty anti-climactic. Nothing found on the X-ray or ultrasound. Since I've been taking it easy the last month or so, the doc said just to keep on doing what I'm doing and see where I am in four weeks. It seems to be getting slightly better, but I can still sense there's something there. I think I'm going to give it the four weeks like the doc said, working on the leg/glute strength, and provided nothing goes bad in that period I'm just going to say f*** it and get back in training mode, with the goal of doing a 50K later this year.

There is one caveat - I still haven't seen a doc for the hernia issue, but I'm waiting until next month to check that out since I'm not doing anything major right now other than the strengthening.

I do have that one, but I don't like the butt workouts on it. I do like the arm & ab workouts & do both (there are 2 15 min workouts for each) for both of those.

The butt tape I do most often is this one, which has 1 20min workout for each lower & upper, and then a faster (8-10min?) ab/back thing. Kathy is kind of annoying, but I've done it enough that I don't need to have the volume up.

It's about 52 here already and muggy. pffththt. I'm having a banana and some water and after I get dressed will head outside for 8 miles.
