No way! And you live in Baton Rouge! I obviously haven't checked this in awhile.

Hey, do you run at the LSU lakes/around LSU?

I'm not aware of the summer 2 milers. Is it in connection with Varsity Sports? I have been asked by a few people at the gym to join their running group but I haven't fully looked into it yet.

I run a lot at the gym cause I'm a wimp. It's too freakin' hot during the day and I don't feel safe runnin' by myself too early or after dark at LSU. I've been out there after dark before and gotten "lost" on campus. I try to do all my long runs there though. I'm not following a schedule right now either. I need to get idea what my next race is and go from there. I've got a few thoughts floating around in my mind about future running plans.

I don't think it's connected with Varsity. They're put on by Club South Runners (the local running club) and they're $10 each, or $5 if you're a member. There are 5 of them, so if you're interested in doing them all it's worthwhile to join the club. Pretty low key, no shirts but they do give out medals and have typical refreshments after, sometimes watermelon. They do get pretty good turnout. They're listed on CSR's event schedule here: http://www.lawired.com/csr/races.htm There's an email flyer they sent out with more info, if you want that pm me your address.

I'm going to try to do all of the 2 milers, but after that I don't really have anything on the schedule. I'll almost definitely be at the Baton Rouge Beach Half/Full Marathon. I've done the half several times and love the race.

Oh yeah, Club South Runners. I've been meaning to join them too. Thanks for the info. This sounds like something I'd like to do.

I've never done the Baton Rouge Beach HM. I just did my second HM in Madison with a huge group from here. Had a great time. My first HM was Mercedes this past feb. I'm hoping we'll get a huge group to come to the Mardi Gras HM/Marathon in Feb. of 09.

The only local races I've run this year are-

Mardi Gras Mambo 10K- BR (My first race ever)
Cresent City Classic 10K- this was teh suck (see 30's dictionary) because of the walkers.
Fat Boy 5K (Which I had to walk cause my Doc said no runnin' for 10 days at the time.)

None of which I did! So no great stories about how we brushed elbows and didn't even know it. Only thing I've done so far this year was Dash for Deaf Kids 5k because I live 3/4 mile from the school. I've done Mardi Gras Mambo a few times, but I really cannot stand the last 2 miles on river road. No course should EVER take you by the sewage treatment plant. I really like Fat Boy but it filled up before I got to register (and I wasn't in great shape anyway).

Some other good stuff around here... the zoo run 5k in august is okay. It's kind of neat to run amongst the animals; sometimes a gazelle or something will run along side the route in its enclosure. But it's going to be very hot and humid, and it's a double loop course. Cajun Cup 10k (October) in Lafayette gets a lot of hype and it's a pretty good race, but I haven't run it since they changed the course. Erm... well, maybe that's it. There's Goldenfliers around the lakes in December, but I haven't run that. I hear it's pretty good.

Ah see, we might should have brushed elbows at the Dash for Deaf Kids 5K, I had planned to do that one but for some reason I can't remember ended up not doing it this year.

The Sewage treatment plant! Ha. I was so focused on being excited about it being my first race I hardly noticed it! I loved running by Alex Box though! Speakin' of, how about those Tigers! So excited that we're rockin' and rollin' this year in baseball!

The Fat Boy 5K was awesome. I heard in advance it fills up fast because of the 1000 person cut off so I registered the first week it was anounced. You have to do it next year. It was so fun. I mean come on Krispy Cremes and Kleinpeter chocolate milk? Then they had these huge Manda Sausage poboys plus they were throwin' moon pies at me!

Zoo run sounds fun. I could stand to not have the heat and humidity. I found the CC Classic was hot this year. Ick. Got to love our weather.

The Cajun Cup 10K sounds like one I'd surely be interested in. I have firends in lafayette. Those crazy cajuns!

Goldenfliers- also something new to me.

What is your usual pace? How far have you run? Are you training for anything right now?

:1: And New Orleans is so much worse. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, every single race I've run in NO is miserable. Doesn't seem like 80 miles would make that much of a difference, but it really does.

At Fat Boy a couple years ago I caught a 2 pound package of Manda sausage that they were throwing in the crowd after awards. It was awesome.

Easy pace is a little under 8:00, 5k I just cracked 6:00 pace at Deaf Kids. Right now I'm running 40-50 mpw and trying to build to around 70 or so if the heat doesn't kill me first. Did 13.4 tonight for a long run around campus, lakes, and garden district. I'm really just trying to get a solid base down as I ran very little Jan-Mar. I'm keeping in mind the Baton Rouge Half as a goal race, and maybe the full if things are going really well.

How about you? Are you new to running or just racing?

Ha ha yeah. Any races we're involved in will have you watching me come in way after you finish! You are speedy, I on the other hand, am not! I usually can do 10 minute miles.

New to races this year, I've been running for a little over a year. The HM is my longest distance thus far. I'd like to do a marathon but a lot of thought and training will go into the process before that happens.

I followed a HM training plan pretty well, I ran 5 days a week cause I was also doing a gym contest at the time but I've got nothing planned right now. Back to the drawing board and figuring out where I want to go from here. I was really dehydrated and the lytes were out of wack after the last HM in Madison so I had a yuck runnin' week this week. Hopefully tomorrows run will go better.
