I'm using the VRAA to help me log major miles in the four major mileage weeks before my taper for Lost Dutchman. Is anybody else going to be there? I like courses with profiles like it has, but I do wonder how chunky the unpaved section of road is. Does anybody know?

I keep thinking about doing the half or maybe the 10K. I did the 10K last year. Impeccably organized and really fun small race. The 10K is run on the last 5K of the marathon course. I don't know about the rest. The marathon starts on the Peralta Trail as I recall, which (I think) is well used and well maintained.

Does that help at all????

Billy, I'm curious whether it is well used and maintained with loose pea-sized gravel, smaller or larger gravel, or relatively smooth dirt. Some of my shoes have a habit of picking up rocks and putting them in next to my ankles...so I'd like to know if those have a likelihood of being miserable to use...

Well, just looking back trhough my logs and over the past three weeks I've put in 67, 46, and 69 miles. The 67 and 69 are my highest mileage weeks ever, but I feel great. Took my pulse this morning before rolling out of bed and it was 41, so I don't appear to be overtraining. The warmer weather this past few days (30s) helps a lot, I feel like it is all coming together now. Another two weeks of mileage and then starting to back it down...

But I won't have a test race to guage my race pace off of. Not sure if the 3:40 I want to run is realistic or not, so I'll probably start at 3:50 pace and evaluate after a few miles. Assuming all goes well between now and then...

Pulse this morning 42. Today on my lunchtime run I tried to maintain a three in three out breath/stride cycle, and found myself fairly flying along at MP by the end. I meant to have an easy run, but it felt like a pretty solid effort. Now I'll have to slow it back down for the next couple days.

I saw that the LDM is the annual event for the black marathoners association this year. I wonder if that will make for more entrants than normal. My favorite race size is probably 500-1500, but LDM was in the 300s last year.

Well, still haven't finalized my registration. It seems as though I'll be going for the scenery and atmosphere, because the GI issues that have been coming and going on a 2-4 week cycle are back...leaves me feeling fatigued and slow when I run. Luckily I'm in taper, so I've just eased off and am waiting to see if it gets better by race day. Might need a marathon layoff until this sorts itself out after this...

Signed up yesterday...that means I'm running tomorrow. Largest base of my life, but not sure what it all means. Had a great run Monday, poor run Thursday...who knows. Seems like good race conditions from what I can tell though.
