Ok Guys. I've disabled the login and logout function from the 'default' template (as well as the Power Turk Blue template).

Here's what we're looking for:
1. Successful logins by every members.
desired outcome: Everyone should be able to log in successfully

2. When you're in the forum and leave the site; can you come directly back to the forum still logged in? (If you've not closed your browser)
desired outcome: You should be able to leave the site and return logged in

3. When you come to the forum after closing your browser, you should be logged out.
desired outcome: If you close your browser and return directly to the forum, then you should NOT be logged in - you'll need to go to the main page to log in.

I'm sure there will be some 'complaints' about having to go to the front page to log in; but that's ok. It's just the next step needed as we move forward. We're working hard to bring valid content to the front page as well as content specific advertisements (things that are really of interest to our demographics).

Thanks for your patience; support and any input on this process.

Best,

When I go to the front page it says I have to login, but if I click the forums link it takes me right in, and I am logged in.

That could be your cache (if you'd saved your login in the past to not log out).

Try this and let me know what happens:
1. go to the main page and log in
2. Log out of the main page.
3. Go to the forum and see if you're still logged in
4. if not, go back to the main page and log out.
5. Close yoru browswer and then reopen your browser and check again

let me know

thanks

Some minor issues reported thus far. I think the bulk of the three I've heard about really has to do with the users coming to the forum and can't find the login box; and therefore, they think they must re-register. In other words, they've not been to the front page and knows of the login feature there.

Since I see people on the site, I've got to believe the bulk of the users can get in. What I will probably do - unless you guys feel otherwise, is to remove the login feature from all of the templates and make the move to the front page.

But I think I'll let it go as is for the next week and let's see what happens during the peak hours. I am available and will be on-line until Friday and will be 100% out of pocket after that for a week. So, unless we run into some major issues this week; we'll leave as is until the end of the month and then pull the login feature off all the templates.

Keep your ears and eyes open and if you get a message; or see a post discussing this change - please let me know

Thanks for your support on this!

I actually like the idea of logging in on the first page. Information control, ad control, ensuring that the eyes catch the ads, maybe getting a few more committed people... who knows.

It also allows you to put out other forms of contents, articles, blogs etc.

Good job.

I have done what describe above, and no matter what I do, I still have to log in each time at the main page...but no matter what I still stay signed in on the forums.

I am home now, but at the office, Once I log in on the front page, I stay logged in.

Weird.

I cleared my temporary internet cache, but have not cleared my cookies, perhaps that may be the issue.

if you don't close your browser, you should stay logged in. If you close your browser, you shouldn't be logged in at the forum or main page.

If this isn't the case, then let's try clearing your cookies etc... and try again.

I'm in the office now and everything works as it should. What's weird is that I am running XP Pro/IE 7 at home and at the office.

I will try clearing my cookies at home and starting fresh.

Its using the logo or the link at the bottom of the page.

But now when I just did it again, it kept me. But prior to right now, it wasnt holding the login when I would go back there.

I think I'm getting logged out by the timeout, I used to just sign in as remember me which kept me logged in.

I think a lot of people log in at the start of the day check it every hour or so and log out at the end, so extending the time before you're logged off could be handy.

I wanted to let you know that I have noticed that the front page appears to log me out after a period of time. Not sure how long that is.

I can go back and forth from the main forum page to the front page. (after that period of time, whatever it is) and I will continue to be logged in to the forum page, but will have to log in to the front page again.

I know I had mentioned this previously, and said it appeared to be working, but I had checked it right after logging into the front page.

Just FYI. Not sure if the front page should be logging me out when the forum page doesnt.
