Seriously people, we've all been standing in lines our entire lives. Why do you act like you don't get it? HS girl: it was nice of you to drop your friends off while you parked the car, but that doesn't mean you get to jump in front of me in this line. Other Random lady: WTF? Sure, HS girl hesitated and waited for the teller guy to ask for the next person in line, but that doesn't mean you get to jump ahead of her and me and 4 other people.

Why is the concept of a line so hard for so many people to understand?

I thought this was going to be about panty lines.

I'm with you. Sometimes when I see a woman wearing snug pants, and there's no panty line, I can't help thinking, "She's not wearing any underpants."

This is a major peeve of mine. Ask Martin, Montrealers are the world's BEST queuers. Must be a legacy of the '67 world's fair.

At bus stops a second line forms behind the first for people who would prefer to wait for the next bus. Those people in the first line who don't get on the first bus automagically get a place at the front of the second line. How's that for regimented behaviour, eh?

Here in Calgary it's a stampede for the door, and in inclement weather often the person who's been there the longest is the last on. Rude, rude, rude.

I don't see a consideration in there for lost revenue due to a fight breaking out when some idiot acts like they've never seen a line before, butts in front of me, and I issue a beat down.

What kind of science fails to consider this scenario?

The progressive loss in efficiency as you approach 100% utilization is a logarithmic function, so the difference between a massive line, and a massive line with an issued beat down is minimal from a practical standpoint, since they're both pretty much useless in terms of productivity.
