So our LHC (local health club) is having a "Triathlon contest" - which is funny, because they never talked to the Triathlon Club... go figger, but hey whatever.

The goal is to do 2.4m swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run - in workouts..... by the end of the year.

Ok, so I get why they didn't talk to us. I did the math and it wouldn't take me much more than a week. Clearly, it's not designed for us

Do I still get a free t-shirt?

If that's what it takes to get someone off the couch and perhaps feel better about themselves, then I'm all for it.

I firmly believe that most of us on this board are at a level beyond an outstanding majority of the general population. It means we're better at running, biking, and swimming and finding time for it. That's all. But we are at a higher level. It's no difference than our very own Silly Sally, who is also at a level far beyond most with specialized dancing.

Iron distance, all in one day, or even all in one month is a lot. I've now done two of these amazing events. And to this day I still cannot comprehend the actual distances. I think that's also why they say that when you cross the finish line of an Ironman or other Iron distance event, you are a changed person. You are so impressed with what you just did, as if it were someone else. Because the distances are staggering.

My rinky dink local gym -- the one I frequent at the noon hour -- puts on an indoor triathlon. Although I am tempted to try my hand at it, I don't bother... I don't bother because it is a way to bring in new people to the gym in a fun way. I don't belong there. I'm already at the gym, and if I signed up I would win. Which would be a shame. Because the confidence it can give a newbie or someone even looking to start working out by coming in a high place or even first is worth far more to that person than it would be to me to run over the dinky triathlon. Perhaps when it becomes larger, if ever, and attracks more hardcore members, then I'll come out and play. Because then it's worth it for everyone, as then it's about results, not just getting people out.
