Just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on the recent sale of the Leadville races to a company in Minn. The L-ville Hunnert is one that has been on my radar for a while and I sure hope that it keeps the same "feel" - http://www.ultrarunning.com/ultra/features/news/leadville-trail-100-right.shtml

I just read this the other day and was quite surprised by it. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

I to am wondering the same thing! I was even more surprised by the number of entrants this year (720). That has to be a record. Although 40-50% will or will not finish. The race is so unpredictable as it nailed my rearend twice. I'll go back though. Love the area. What's not to like.

I just hope new direction doesn't mess with anything. I still think they should bring in the current RD/Founder(Ken) to give his prerace peptalk. So awesome and inspiring!

Actually, it's already a for-profit event. They cut a lot of corners as it is, so I don't see things changing much. The price will probably go up.

Maybe they'll finally fix that god-awful website and put in some live runner tracking.

I'd rather see tracking for dead runners .

That sounds like it'd be pretty manageable but a bit macabre.

Even as the sport gets more popular, I am not sure this will happen more and more often. The limited amount of entrants in many (most) ultra events will probably keep most of the bigger for profit outfits away from the sport. I suspect that there may be more race sponsorship though, more for brand recognition purposes than race profit, kinda like the TNF races.

Fortunately the sport has many grass roots races put on as a labor of love.
