DAMN!!! You're up an at'em this morning!

Today is thursday right??? If it is I have off tomorrow, if it's not I should be at home in bed sleeping in.

I got a flat of 12 pounds of strawberries yesterday! Tonight I'm slicing and macerating for strawberry shortcakes of the future. Friday I'm making daquiries and dehydrating some so I can make strawberry shortcake cookies.

If anyone has Kevin's strawberry banana bread I'd appreciate it.

DD and I made some strawberry ice cream the other day. I can give you a recipe for that!

Morning RIL and everyone else!

Three day weekend? Vague....understanding....of concept..... Sigh. It's this sort of retail nonsense that I'm leaving behind by heading back to school.

SCHOOL!!!!

Fun: I'm trying to find a place to take a picture for my student ID. You can upload your own photo (there are guidelines ) so you don't have to wait in line.

Not Fun: Thus far, I've been unsuccessful finding a location. Who would have thought that a plain, solid-color background would be so hard to find?

I need some tea. Back in a bit...

Good morning everyone!!!

Ooooh, all this strawberry talk has my mouth watering! Yum!!

I'm trying to fit a ton of stuff in before summer school starts next week. We started setting up our room yesterday, have today off, and will go back to finish up tomorrow and meet our kids. It should be an interesting month. That being said, the teacher I am working with seems awesome.

Weird.. I thought I posted before I left work. Hrm.. I must have clicked preview instead of submit, and then walked away from the computer.

Fun: today is my Friday! (burning another vacation day to play hookey tomorrow)

Fun: You guys have heard me talk about my neighbor from time to time - the one that has Big E and Bailey, the horses. I've been getting more comfy with both of these guys lately, which is cool. My neighbor called me last night and told me that she has a new addition, and is about to have a 4th horse, too. Her new addition is a VERY pregnant (yet extremely tame and social) mare, who is going to give birth any day now. Woohoo! I'm very excited for the addition of the mare, but even more so for the upcoming birth. Who knows - maybe the stars will align just right so that I'm able to watch. Yeah, it'll be kind of gross, but it will also be a beautiful part of nature that I've never experienced first-hand. :)

I'll get some pics as soon as I can!

Ann - I second what Kath has mentioned. You can go to many drug stores now, and have a passport-style photo taken, if needed.

fun/interesting article in today's paper:

http://www.jconline.com/article/20110630/ENT/106300304/Hitmaking-West-Lafayette-grad-honored-songwriting?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE

I had no idea this duo wrote all of these songs and that one of them was from this area. We often have articles about famous musicians from the area, and I don't recall this person ever mentioned before. Apparently all these hits don't measure up to Shannon Hoon or Axl Rose :)

Fun? I'll have to think on that. I have a rehearsal for my community chorus tonight so I don't have much time to myself today.

Wippy- his recipe is on page 1 of the recipe thread. http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/thread/9276/30s-recipe-swap (Many thanks to those who created the 30's wiki )

Wow, Amy! So cool.

Re: the photo. I have one that I took in front of the stockroom door at work, but I am not sure a hot pink background is a look I want to be sporting for the next two years. And I don't really want to spend money on something I can do for free. I just need to get a little creative...

Not fun: big and out of control fire downtown very close to DH's office. http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/crime_and_courts/article_a14ab7ec-a303-11e0-aafb-001cc4c002e0.html

Hi all - fun is the weather is warming up; could feel it this morning, and I'm looking forward to a nice sunny weekend.

Ann - maybe you can find a solid colored bedsheet or something similar and drape it over a door or something where you live to use as a backdrop.

Amy - pretty cool story...which leads to a natural QOD: What famous people come from your hometown or what you consider to be your hometown these days?

Since my current town has only been officially a town for less than 20 years, I'll have to go with one town south where I used to reside and say famous folks include Natalie Coughlin, Jeff Gordon, C.C. Sabathia, Tug McGraw, Ed Rollins, and Sylvester Stone (of Sly & The Family Stone). With the 4th of July coming up (i.e. the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Championships), I also must add Joey Chestnut to the list

not fun: my office (normally freezing in summer) is stuffy and warmer than it should be. Methinks the A/C is out. Blah. I have a fan but that will only work for so long.

RIL- scary. I know that area, my college roomie has lived in Madison for several years. She lives in walking distance to the Capitol but in the opposite direction of the fire.

QOD- we have had a few NFL players come from my hometown: Charles Woodson, Bob Brudzinski, and Rob Lytle. Mark Coleman is a UFC fighter (I went to school with his brother). President Hayes settled into my hometown as an adult and his presidential center is there, but he wasn't born there. And, the Ginsu knives were originally manufactured there.

QOD: as already mentioned, Axl Rose and Shannon Hoon. Also Izzy Stradlin from GNR, Christian singer Jeremy Camp (DH built a house for him with his old company). I've actually met: Brian Lamb from CSPAN when he was inducted in to the hall of fame at my HS. Tammy Lynn Michaels (the former Mrs. Melissa Etheridge) and I were actually friends growing up, but lost touch in college (a-ok by me). It's funny, I know most of the athletes listed here (well, the ones that were alive in my memory), either from high school, Purdue, or through DH:

Somebody needs to update this wiki to include the songwriter in the article and the recent Nobel Peace prize winners from the university!

Of course, Coca-cola's headquarters are set up in Atlanta. In Covington (Where I'm at), the series Heat of the Night was filmed. Partial film credits also go to the Dukes of Hazard, vampire diaries, My Cousin Vinnie, and rob Zombie's remake of Halloween II. currently parts of Covington and neighboring conyers are being used for filing of the next American Pie movie. (reunion type theme, I think.)

Kris - It is crazy. I just got back from the area of fire and it is still out of control. I also just found out my friend I am having lunch with today lives there. Needless to say, I think I will buy her a drink with lunch today! :(

Fun: Today is my friday because of Canada Day tomorrow! Whuhooo! I picked up cute tshirts for the girlies to wear tomorrow. And a little Canadian flag that goes on our car. We'll take in some of the festivities...pancake breakfast, 10k race, games, face painting, fireworks. And the weather is supposed to be nice all weekend! Love it!

Update on the back yard: Perennials are in! They look really nice, too! Lena was helping me and stubbed her toe on a rock, pulled the little nail right off. Ouch. She wasn't impressed. Pool is ready to swim in...as soon as the temps go up a smidge.

Strawberries...mmmm... Our local ones are ready and they kick ass! I ate a whole big box all by myself today!

Famous people...hmm...well, Sidney Crosbie. Although, he's from outside Halifax, which is 4.5 hours from here. So not necessarily my home town. Al MacInnis is from an hour away, though. I can't really think of anyone else right now. Unless people here know Rita MacNeil. She's a singer and I think she has a following in the States.

Fun QOD!

I grew up in New Haven CT. Some folks native to New Haven: Ernest Borgnine, Paul Giamatti (actors), Norman Lear (TV producer), Walter Camp (inventer of football), Charles Goodyear (of Goodyear fame), Eli Whitney (cotton gin inventor), Steve Wynn (casino mogul), Benedict Arnold (famous traitor), Artie Shaw, Liz Phair, Michael Bolton, Richard & Karen Carptenter (musicians), Benjamin Spock (Dr Spock), George W Bush, Joe Libermann (politicians), Roger Sherman (signed Declaration of Independence).

And you could throw in any of the millions of people who have attended Yale...

As for my current town, Springfield NJ... Well, it's a small town. We got Ziggy Wilf (owner of the Minnesota Vikings), Jeffrey Ross (comedian) and Claudio Reyna (soccer player, formerly on the U.S. national team).

I used to live in the neighboring town on Summit, whose list includes: Jim Cramer (of Mad Money), Jon Corzine (U.S. Senator), Meryl Streep (actress), Ice-T (rapper), Charles Gibson (Good Morning America anchor), Rex Ryan (Coach of the NY Jets), Miles Austin, Dave Brown (NFL players), Willie Wilson (baseball player).

The only ones on these lists that I've ever seen in person were Jim Cramer and Jon Corzine. I've seen them both at CVS a couple times...

Edit: I also used to see Joe Liebermann quite a bit back in the 70s. Back then, he was just a local politician and he lived on the street next to where I grew up, so he was always around the neighborhood. But that was a long time ago, when nobody knew who he was...
