Tim,

I'm typing this on an IBM/Lenovo T42. I've also got a T40, both purchased as refurbs from tigerdirect.com. You can get a T42 for $500 right now - not a bad deal if it's got enough "go" for what you need - provided you have (legit) copies of whatever you want to put on it. They come loaded with XP and that's about it.

Edit: I'd pick the IBM. I've never had a problem with mine, and they're built pretty solid.

I have that very same MacBookPro and LOVE it! In fact, I'm logged in from my work Toshiba right now, and I'm the idiot who selected "other". I meant to vote for the Mac. I'm blaming it on the Windows OS.

Is that a good price? I am leaning towards this one. I am also looking at a couple of the refurbed ones at the apple store.

We got ours through the university as well. I'm considered faculty (weird, I know) so I got a good deal, around the same price U of M appears to be offering. That's about as inexpensive as you'll find the Macbook Pro with the 2.2 Ghz processor.

Can't beat Dell for the money. As much as I like the look of the Mac, and the ease of the Genius Bar (as opposed to sitting on hold, waiting for a "tech" from some random country to "help" me) - I can't justify the added expense (for myself). Now, if I were a graphic artist, or in another media business, that would be a different story entirely.

We use the D630 here in my HUGE corporation. It's a decent machine.
We used to use the T series IBM's but I have not dealt with them since they went Lenovo.

Anyway I am sending you a PM
