Mom runs a food bank/community kitchen. Every year they have a food drive to collect non-perishable items to help them get through the winter. They recently had one of these food drives. And someone donated a box of Kraft Dinner. From 1982. Seriously? Someone really thought they could use this? Then again, it's probably still edible.

Never saw that. Wonder if it was just sold in Canada.

If it's the powdered version, I don't see why it still wouldn't be edible. I mean, supposedly, hardtack from the US Civil War is still edible.

Merkuns generally don't call it Kraft Dinner...just mac n' cheese.

Once on Jeopardy they changed a score after the commercial when a Canajun had Kraft Dinner originally counted incorrect.

...makes me laugh.

I can totally understand this after visiting my grandmother in-law's house and cleaning out her cabinets. She had stuff from the early 80's too. And she didn't want to part with it. She's been slowly losing her mind.

We had to sneak it out under our coats. Bottles of soy sauce and teriyaki sauce clinking in my pockets.

We cleared out my MIL's house when she died. There's an ointment like A-535 up here called Ben-Gay. I know, I know. Apparently it is now known as Bengay. But we found a tube that had the name Bengué on it with a very old pre-postal code address in Montreal on it. She'd had it for over 40 years.

Oddly enough, the last time that I bought Kraft Mac and Cheese in the US, (mainly because I thought the box was so funny and odd that it didn't say Kraft Dinner), the store's till tape listed it as Kraft Dinner. Isn't that wacky?

I remember that Egg Noodle and Cheese stuff...not nearly as good as the original.

I worked at a sporting goods store in college. We had a lady try to return a box of ammo that was 20 years old. She couldn't understand why we wouldn't take it back (we didn't ever take ammo back even if it was new).

I found the this tube of ointment in my parent's medicine cabinet about 3 months before they moved to assisted living about 3 years ago... it was army green with a black cap and black lettering.. I'm kind of thinking my mom acquired it when she was an Army nurse... IN WWII !!!! ... the ointment was this black and nasty stuff my mother used to use on us when we had a burn when we were little.. I took it out to them and gave them grief.... in fun though and we ALL threw it out! .. It was right next to the old bottle of paragoric....

When mom cleaned out my nanna's house earlier this year, there was a foul and mysterious odor coming from the basement. Like someone died down there. Her and my sister were debating on who would go sniff it out and find it. My sister lost the coin toss. She found a bucket of pork riblets...from the mid 80s. Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeyeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!

This thread is making me laugh. I have a friend who recently found a can of food that expired several years ago. She was disturbed to realize she's actually moved house at least twice with that expired can of food.

I am the exact opposite. Stuff gets tossed out of my house on a regular basis. I probably get rid of stuff that other family members are still using. I wonder if there's a dsmIV category for the opposite of hoarders.

I love throwing stuff out/getting rid of too. You will not find expired food in our house. The fridge gets cleaned out weekly.

gah. I need to clean out the fridge too. My husband has ADD. He puts leftovers in containers, puts them in the fridge and forgets them forever. I tried to get him to just throw things away instead of putting them into permanent storage, but no. That would be wasteful. But if you wait until it is all covered in technicolor fuzz... that's not wasting, then.
