<span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>1. Why do you run?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Like most people I started running to lose weight. For me it was for my wedding in 2003. But since then it’s become more important why I continue to run.</span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Life is different now, because I run. My job is just as stressful, but that stress doesn't linger as much anymore. When I’m out on a run I get about an hour a day just to myself...to think, to zone out, to solve mine and the world's problems. I'm healthier both physically and mentally.</span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Probably the most important reason I'm still at this though? The people. The wonderful people of this board, and the 30s in particular. New friends that seem like old friends. They are the family that I chose. They inspire me to keep at this absurd pastime.</span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>2. What is your greatest accomplishment?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Setting aside my career path to help Tonya succeed in the pursuit of her PhD and what she was meant to do.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>3. What is your motto/theme song?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Motto or theme song huh? Professionally it would have to be “If it was just taping ankles it would be one hell of a job.” Personally I keep coming back to a line from a Metallica song, even had it as my signature back in the old location: “My life style determines my death style”</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Song not so sure about…too many to choose from.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;"><b>4. How do you deal with bad runs?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;">I try to figure what made it a bad run – usually it’s something I’ve done, going for a run in the middle of an August afternoon, or something I’ve not done, not being properly hydrated – and then try to correct it the next time. But really, I know its cliché, but is there such a thing as a bad run? Even a bad run means we’re out there doing.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?</b></span></span><br><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">No reward for a single good run, but Tonya and I do have a reward system – have to complete so many workouts each month to obtain a reward of our own choosing, so I reward myself for all runs, not just good ones.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>6. Who do you admire most?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;">My parents. It has only been as an adult that I’ve truly come to appreciate all of the sacrifices they made for me and my siblings. Only way I can show them how much I admire them is to try and live up to the example they set.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">You can learn something from every experience, good or bad. The trick is figuring out what you're supposed to take away from the experience.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>8. What do wish you had learned younger?</b></span></span><br><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Self-confidence and not to worry about what others might think about you. Those terrible years from age 13-22 could have been different had I known that.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>9. What do you wish you could do but can't?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;">Swim better…and maybe travel in time. Okay, just swim better.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>10. How would your friends describe your personality?</b></span></span><br><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Outgoing, funny/sarcastic, loyal, caring, sensitive, intelligent, astute.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Tech tee, shorts, must have some sort of hat (too much skin exposed up there). No real favorite outfit, but usually on race day I look like a Nike advertisement.</span></span><br><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>12. What has been your favorite race?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;">2006 Flying Pig. I ran the half-marathon but the overall weekend was incredible. First time meeting a number of the 30s and I ran a PR that weekend.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>13. Do you have a goal race right now?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;">Only a few people know the specifics but I’m planning on making my debut at the 26.2 distance in June at Grandma’s.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Also planning on the HM in Madison in May, as of today.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>14. What makes you happy?</b></span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="color:#000000;">Too many things to have a complete list here! Quality time with Tonya, a nice conversation with a friend, a good beer, a good beer combined with a nice conversation with a friend, having an athlete say “thanks” for getting them back on the court/field, a nice run just to name a few.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.</b></span></span><br><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">In undergrad I received a scholarship that paid full tuition and provided a house to live in…greatest scholarship program in the world, the Evans Scholarship, and one of the criteria for being eligible? I had to caddy. Yeah, that’s right I got a free education for carrying golf clubs.</span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b>16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).</b></span></span><br><br><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">All secrets are safe with me, plus I don’t really know anything good.</span></span>

re: Caddyshack. Yes. Brian Doyle Murray (Bill's brother and he plays Lou) wrote the movie with Harold Ramis. All the Murray brothers caddied growing up outside of Chicago and two of the brothers were Evans Scholars. So yeah, I lived Caddyshack.<br><br>
that would be Ohio upbringing! Only been in Michigan for about 18 months.

Great POTD, and Happy Birthday! It was nice to meet you in GR and I am still kicking myself that we did not have a beer together. Best wishes with your running goals - you have a great attitude and a bright future. If you're ever in Cleveland, the first Great Lakes brew is on me!
