I'm promoting a kids race series this summer and it has been going great. We are getting over 40 kids of all ages and they seem to be enjoying themselves. We run races from 100 meters up to about 8 miles with increasing technical difficulty, all on grass and trails. We have prizes, hot dogs and a raffle. It's really been fun, I think it's a great way to get kids outside and active and perhaps interested in the sport more. Here's a few pictures, this dumb editor won't let me insert them

Awesome, but someone has to tell them that the reflectors are just empty weight and will slow them down.. Plus, all those baggy clothes.. However the Princess bento box can hold lots of nutrition on long rides.

Snort! Don't put any ideas into the heads of the Disney execs, please. My house has already been taken over by the princess posse - don't need to see it in bike gear too!!! ha!

Very cool. Our kids are starting to race a 5k or two each year, I think they have a shot at breaking the 30-minute mark soon. No interest from either of them yet in doing a kiddie triathlon, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Great stuff, been watching the announcements on FB and wishing we were closer. There's very few kid races around here except the ultra-competitive. At this age, I want it to be uber fun.

Had a BLAST with my 11yr and the 20 mile bike at midnight, on top of and through Fermilab. Not often you can ride you bike around a particle accelerator. Was like a flashback to a 50s scifi movie. Very cool and long enough to be a challenge for him. Plus, he was all excited to decorate his bike. The days are numbered when he'll do fun kid-stuff like that. He's an old soul like I was, so he'll be acting 30 any day now.

i'm glad i took the plunge, people kept talking and talking, but nothing was happening so i just pulled together some courses at different parks and winged it. I like running off the beaten track so I know lots of little cool trails and places to see back in the woods, so I just go out with a rake and wagon full of stakes and build a little 1-2 mile loop in the forest that's nice and flat and gives kids something safe but hard enough to wear them out.

just without asking I have all kinds of donated stuff for prizes, cash, a nice felt bike, so it's been easy to do a good job with the races. My big expense is hot dogs and junk food, which runs me about $75 per event. Having the bike to raffle at a buck a ticket sort of puts me in the black. Sort of.
