MrC and I are volunteering to be course guards tomorrow night for the state games 5k. It's forecast to be a sizzling 97 degrees for those runners so a rough one on tap. Maybe I should bring a supersoaker.

Thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday. You guys are the best of the bunch. I had a terrific birthday celebration. My son Daniel took me out to lunch to a mexican restaurant. When we got there I saw a young man in suit and tie walking towards me with flowers...it was my oldest son David, who drove from Seattle to surprise me. After lunch I took the afternoon off and allowed the guys to pamper me. DH and sons produced a great dinner (grilled salmon, grilled zucchini and peppers, orzo, garden greens and tomato with fresh mozzarella and basil salads and a delicious angel food cake with strawberries). All in all it was a joyful day.

How could you run too far in that kind of a workout? You're a beast, bty. Another kick on the hydration thing.

I got to hook up with Brooke this morning. We actually use that term in my house joking around. "How old is she, 28?" DW said when I first hired Brooke. "23," I said and she looked relieved because that's too young. No, seriously, Brooke wanted to make sure I was doing my lifting the right way so we met at the Y before work. I wasn't doing the workouts right but at least my rowing machine form was good. I'm really enjoying learning this new stuff! She's killing me with a tempo run tonight (on my own).

Too hot to run outside this afternoon/evening (92 degrees with 80+% humidity). Instead I'm going to get a pedicure

I had a bad dream last night that kept waking me up and then when I'd drift back off to sleep, the dream kept continuing. Then I got into work early for cabinet delivery, and the delivery never happened. They "may" deliver on Saturday instead. Good lord, how do places like that actually stay in business?

Tomorrow morning's plan is for a spin class and I'm looking forward to that. This is my long weekend - no work - every other weekend is 3 days off, and the other weekend is only one day off. So this will be a good weekend for me. It's been a tough week but it's almost over.

Choovie, be careful tomorrow. Everyone, enjoy your runs and do a few miles for me!

Some good runs today!

I'd kick BTY too, but then again I'd need to aim a few at my own butt as well, and for the same reasons!

Excellent news, Irun!!

With the swelling going down some, I'm starting getting serious about the ankle range of motion and strength exercises. Did a few sets of those and a 35 minute spin at lunch.

Enjoy the day, everyone!!!

I'm still not sure about this KR makeover. The colors are so faded on my computer that I have to strain to view it. And, to top it off, it won't allow me to cut/paste info such as web links.

Anyway, just wanted to mention something relative to the constant topic of summer heat that is always "just the way we like it." As some of you probably know, the Badwater Ultra took place earlier this week in Death Valley. 60 hours to cover 135 miles in the unrelenting heat that often rises to 125 degrees. And Jack Denness, age 75, earned his 12th official Badwater finish. How 'bout them apples? Any heat complaints today?

Quick fly by today. Ran a 5k trail run near Dayton last night that was a blast. Not too hilly or treacherous but hot(86°) and humid. Started with a 6:15 mile. After that I was passing people the whole way. I ran a 6:26 2nd mile and finished with a 6:16 and :38 for a total time of 19:35. I was 11th overall and 1st master.

Off to Buffalo to run a competitive 4 mile race friday evening. It was supposed to be one of my goal races this summer, but with the heat and humidity I will just race it the best I can. The dewpoint is expected around 70°.

5 mile recovery jog with my team of dedicated half-marathon trainees this afternoon. We kept it around 10:30 pace to make sure we did not overexert in the heat/humidity. About 85 degrees and 65% RH is particularly hot for an upstate NY lunchtime workout. We've seen these temps for about two weeks straight now, but some years it may only get like this for a couple of days in August.

I should try to get in some throwing tonight. We'll see.

can i be like jack denness when i grow up? it's about 17 degrees cooler here than in death valley... brrrr... where did i put my mittens?

bike to work, 5min rest, 6 mile run. shoulda run before that bike to work too. with some planning, i think i can turn thursday mornings into a duathlon practice day, with something like a 3k, 20k, 3k effort... in order to start training for two 5k, 40k, 5k races next year.

mc, I have your mittens. Or at least I should have! My run today was 6.1 miles at lunch, with 3 x half mile repeat at what I'm guessing is 3k race pace. I've never run a 3k. I've never even seen a 3k race anywhere. But these repeats were not as fast as full-out mile race pace, but faster than 5k (I think). So I'm splitting the diff and calling them 3k pace. Just judging by effort cuz I didn't have the Garmin set for lapping them. Oh well. It worked. Rest of the run was mostly easy, 'cept for that big ol' hill I ran up at the end to get back to my office. Geez that sucker's big.

Not too hot here. Feels more like September than mid-July. Smoke is off to the south though, where it can stay, thankuverymuch. Overcast skies, rain earlier, 52° F and I wore long sleeves. Gloves would've been nice in the first mile.
