Hi! So I have the opportunity to buy a used Kestrel Airfoil Pro. Right now I am riding a Giant OCR 2 road bike (3 years old) and am looking to upgrade. The Kestrel has only been used for one season and looks to be in good condition. The seller is looking for $1600-1800 for it (originally ~$3500). Does anyone have any experiences with this bike? Pros or cons? What can I do to assure the fit is right for me? Is this a good deal???

Thanks!

Sheldon makes a good point. Components can make or break a deal.

Also, I would see if the seller would allow you to take it to your local LBS and check you for fit. $1600 is not worth the physical pain that you might endure from riding an ill-fitting bike. While you're there, have the LBS look the bike over for wear and tear and give you his opinion about the condition of the bike.

It has ultegra components.

The person who is mediating the deal is a coach and instructor for a triathlon course at the university. I'm actually his teacher's assistant for the semester. I believe he'd give me a proper bike fitting before I buy it. The bike belonged to one of his clients who owns a triathlon store.

That's kind of a strange design, I don't think I've ever seen one in the flesh. If the top tube fits you and you are not a heavy or overly strong rider, it seems like an OK deal given the ultegra, but it sure is an odd duck sort of bike.

Check carefully for corrosion damage, sometimes trainer-rats will sweat all over the front of the bike and rot the metal parts.
