Hi everyone, I know some of you on this site. I used to post/lurk over at coolrunning, but since that site died, I have missed being part of this great online ultra community. Besides, with winter coming to an end someday, I need some training inspiration! I'm registered for Lake Waramaug 50K and Vermont 100, and will be running the Pineland 50 mile but I still need to register for that. I've been relatively consistent with my running this winter, but definitely have a lot of work to do, so it's time to get crackin'.

Best wishes to you all for a great 2008 season!

to get ready for hills, i'd add - get ready for pavement!

i ran it last year. all the aid stations are manned by ultrarunners (who may, or may not use that time to satisfy the volunteer requirement for vermont)

hey sarah-

there are many coolrunning refugees here, and it does seem a little friendlier, a little less trafffic too, i think. i'll see you at lake waramaug (my yearly volunteer race). if form holds true i'll be holding the clipboard and doing a manual back up of the electronic timing system. i may be at VT 100 too, but i'm not sure. it seems to be filling up though, so i might be shut out. that fits into my (not so) secret plan to go out to marin county and run the headlands 100 in august, if i can find the extra time and $ for a cross country destination ultra run.

Hi Sarah,

I'm glad to hear you're doing Pineland, I wish I could run it too but I need to concentrate or directing this year. Emma is going to do the 50 miler, it will be her first. We run with a bunch of other people who are training for ultra this spring /summer, I think there are like 5 of us doing Vermont (including Erik Boucher). We run at Bradbury Mt State Park every Saturday morning and as soon as the snow melts we'll switch to running at Pineland.

You're welcome to join us any time (and anyone else out there too), check out my BLOG to see details of where and when. This Saturday we'll be doing 15 or so, then on Sunday I'm planning a 6 hour run all on snowmobile trails.

Thanks, everyone, it's great to be back with such a great group of runners!

Ian--I would love to join you guys for a run sometime. But--if memory serves, you guys are a lot faster than me! Have you got any slow people in your group, or people willing to go slow?

Welcome Sarah ---you will find this a welcoming and informative and friendly place --I'll be at lake Waramug ---either running or volunteering-will check in with you before. I also hope to run the VT100.. last year I ran the Lake W. 50K with Frank and my friends Jill and Kate -fairly flat 7.6 mile loop. They had 85 people! The race director, Carl, did the Vt 100 last year. You can ask him any questions you might have (actually,I have a 100 mile question --should I wear my contacts?? ha ) -he's very friendly. an the aid stations are manned by Western states and VT runners doing their volunteer time!
OH YEA, I do recommend you doing some long paved runs/races to acclimate your body to the stresses of the pavement ---a road 50K can be tough that way

Doug -I don't know about slow, but know that you can run longggggg!!!.

Hi Sara - I've been trying to find a trail running home since CR went by the way side. I've been over at runningahead, but can't seem to get much going as far as trail running is concerned. I have a 30k coming up this next weekend, and am training for my first 50k in May in Portland through Pacific Coast Trail Runs. Hippo has said he will be working that run, and Katemd will be our transport (she's my running buddy's sister). So if anybody "sees" them, tell 'em Fatozzig from Northern CA says hey.

Hopefully, this can be my new "home."

I'm going to do Lake Waramaug as well. (and VT100 and possibly Pineland). I am very seriously considering doing the 100k at Lake W but I am a little scared of that much pavement. My longest race has been 50m so I'll be venturing into new territory. It's good to hear that most of the aid stations will be manned by Ultrarunners. Hopefully they will be understanding of me if I'm that last one out there!

Anybody else going for the 100k at Lake W?

I didn't realize Lake W was on pavement until reading this thread! I did a 50 miler on pavement a few years ago (Maine Track Club 50), and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. That was in October, however, after months of regular pavement running. The good thing is, I don't run fast, and I'll be sure to keep a good eye on my pace. That should help with the pounding, hopefully.
