There is a 90% chance I'm running the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon again this year. The marathon has begun doing a series of commemorative medals for the finisher's medals. Last year was Georgia, this year is Michigan. The thoughts of having a medal around my neck or in my house commemorating Michigan troops during the War Between the States is not acceptable.

The course is excellent, reasonable and the money goes to a great cause - the UT Chattanooga Track Club. But they can keep their medal - no offense to the Michigan folks. Wonder if I can talk the race committee into giving me the 2007 medal instead for the 2008 race. Probably not.

Tell you what. I'll swap medals with you this year.

Actually, I guess I can accept the Michigan medal as a tribute to the marksmanship of the Confederate soldier.

I know exactly how you feel Reb. Every time I look at my Boston or Philadelphia Marathon medals I can't help but remember back when I was a youngster and our countries fought one another in the War of 1812.

Maybe I can face it a little easier since the war ended in a tie.

I met the RD of the Chickamauga at the expo today and we had a good laugh about the medal. (Of course, he may have been wondering in the back of his mind, "OK God, where did this nut case come from." ) He did say he could probably give me a 2007 medal as long as I didn't mind it saying 2008. But I told him, naw, I've decided I can hang it up in the "Memorials to the Confederacy" section of my medal box.

2007 was Georgia
2008 was Michigan
It'll be interesting seeing the other collectibles.

TJ - you'll really like Chickamauga if you run it. It really is a neat marathon to run.

I'm gonna miss the marathon this year.

<Regardless of what DH thinks I can do and what a few runners have done, I doubt I'll be in 26.2 shape 3 months after giving birth.>

Gonna try to come up for the 10 mile though.
