And I love Gatorade, so that's really saying something. But as you know, the new G2 stuff is utter crap. But that's okay, because they have simply re-branded the old Gatorade Endurance Formula as Gatorade G2 Pro or some such thing. And also increased the price a few bucks. Okay...corporation's gotta keep up with inflation, I guess.

Except...

I just got my first container of G2 Pro. First thing I notice is that it is MUCH smaller! 32 ounces instead of 50. Holy crap, that makes it a LOT more expensive.

And then I read the label...

Appears to be the same old formula, until you read the mixing instructions. What used to take 3 scoops per quart now requires . Sumbitch!!!

End result? What used to cost me about $1.50 per quart now costs over $3.50 per quart. Seems a little eXtreme to me, and not in a good way.

I got this stuff cheap from a discount store (maybe $3-$ for this tub) - but it's good stuff, even at $11 a tub.

I think this stuff is the same stuff that the new "poweraid IRONMAN drink is." the IM stuff may have a little more salt and potassium, though.

I can't stomach the new gatorade. We're on vacation and I forgot to bring gatorade. I used store brand koolaid this morning on my ride. Seemed to work just find. Wondering if on a regular ride I really need those electrolytes anyway.

That's what I thought/wondered, too. It doesn't. At least according to the info on Powerbar's website they are the same. Both drinks have per 8fl oz:

70 cal

190mg sodium

10mg potassium

17g carbs

I have a container of the fruit punch powerbar endurance (step 2) - unless it is ICE COLD it is disgusting. (IMHO)

I was able to find gatorade endurance powder (I think, I don't have the container with me) at Walmart of all places.

Hmmm ... different strokes, I guess. I have the lemon/lime and fruit punch - and though I prefer limon, I think the punch is tolerable. I like the fact that it isn't overly sweet. It also mixes fairly well - although it feels a little "thicker" than gatorade after mixing.

Walmart, eh? I found mine at Ocean State Joblot. Sometimes that store rocks...

I have recently started using CeraSport EX1. It taste much better than Gatorade and heed. The best thing that I like about it that it doesn't use any simple sugars, it is a rice based sugar which is much easier on the GI tract. Plus it absorbs into the body faster than most electrolyte based drinks. Just a thought if you are looking into changing your nutrition plan.

I tried some today. It's the course drink for Rev3. Expensive as HELL - but there is a code "REV3" (how creative

Not many calories, but I tolerated it just fine on a hard ride in 90+ heat - which has been a problem for me in the past which just about everything. So this is winner. The EX1 leaves a funky aftertaste though, so i had to have some water. Maybe it's because I did 2 packets for 24 oz instead of 2 packets for 32 (24 is size of my bottle)

A weird aftertaste was my first impression as well. I did a course preview ride and we got a CeraSport sample packet in a goodie bag. Don't remember how I mixed it up though. Given the taset, I was glad I wasn't going out for very long with it.

I don't get the after taste but maybe it is because I mix one packet to 20 oz. I like some of the flavors better over others. I have tried all of them.

I switched over because it doesn't cost me anything so I can't speak of the cost and now that I have switched over I don't know if I will go back to anything else. I definately noticed a difference on my long runs and rides. Especially being here in the deep south with the heat and humidity.

The other thing I have noticed is I can't go with just CeraSport, I have to carry water as well to alternate drinks.

Good to know! That stuff has been working exceptionally well for me in the heat, but I don't really need to pay for the Ironman branding...
