Medium paced run this morning on the treadmill cursing those lying groundhogs Phil and Chuck who wholeheartedly agreed on an early spring. Cold windy and raining outside.

Ran a little different today going at more of a steady rate than constant progression. Started slow but dropped the pace quickly until I got to 7:30. Then went 2 mile at that pace. Dropped to 7:24 for 2 more miles and 7:19 for another two. I did speed up a little at the end to finish 8.5 miles in 64:00. 2% incline so elevation gain was a little under 900 ft.

Thanks for starting us Rip - good run.

70 degrees and extreme humidity this morning. First run this year that my shorts and singlet were completely soaked thru. However, it's not hot enough yet that my shoes were completely soaked thru. For "just an average Wednesday" I ran my standard 13 moh @ 8:14 avg pace; faster than I intended.

Anybody running Boston? Only about 6 weeks off. I'm not running it this year.

You guys just wouldn't let me fade away. And Erika, like the others said, I hope your personal issues are small and solving themselves. We are bum foot buddies, aren't we?

Yesterday I got in a couple of quick workouts as the schedule allowed, lifting circuits and the stationary bike. I'm unsure about today, probably swimming and maybe a yoga class.

I did my initial consult with the new foot guru in Norman. That's how my G.P.'s nurse described him, so I asked him about that, he smiled and said, “It’s true.” He knows a lot about running and the minimalist shoe debate which is relevant with my switch to the Green Silence in December. He’s still doing the differential diagnosis thing and I go for an M.R.I. Friday. By then I will also be in a boot. Should make for an interesting cruise to the Bahamas next week!

I'd be interested in hearing about the shoe debate from the guru. I run in relatively light shoes compared to my buddies but I don't think everyone should.

When I was wearing my boot we traveled to San Diego for dw to run the marathon. Passing thru the scanners at the airport in S.A. they said don't bother taking the boot off. But when the metal straps set it off they treated me like a criminal and moved me to the side for interogation and scanning. :) I took it off on the return trip and ran it thru the xray by itself.

Good Morning all you Cool and Kickin' Master Runners!

HappyFeet - ditto what others have said. don't let others' paces shy you away from posting your own. I don't think there is one person here who would judge anyone for running 10+ min mile paces. All running is good running! So post proudly about your paces, distances, times, whatever you'd like.

Hi Johnny! Where is this lower rogue trail you are talking about? I think I'd like to run there sometime. I also saw you are planning on that 50K. Cool!

Nice to see Erika pop in also!

Opie, I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I wish it weren't so, but just do what you can to cross train like crazy, follow docs orders on the boot wearing and I have no doubt you'll be back and running stronger in no time!

I'm hoping it stays dry here at least through my lunch hour today as I'd like to get in a 5 mile run. I did run a few miles in the light rain last night after work. It was pretty mild out (I was even wearing shorts) and since I was home, it was nice running in the rain. It's not quite so nice when I have to put work clothes back on and work for another 4 hrs.

Hi everybody.....happy Ash Wednesday.....(Not being raised catholic, I really don't know what that is though)

Boston.......me qualify?????........Bwa...ha...ha, but good luck Paul, that's great. Sorry you missed by 2 minutes Mike, but you'll get that easy next marathon.

Thumbs down to Phil & Chuck....those lyin' dogs. We rarely see the sun around here this time of year anyway.

Opie....watch that boot thing.....mine made one of my legs noticeably longer than the other, by the time I was done with the boot, I'd screwed up my hip.

Hi Mike, KS, Heme, Happy Feat, JJ, and everyone else

Tamster....Lower Rogue trail start at the Grave Creek bridge, beginning of the Wild & Scenic portion. North side of the river. South side of the river trail goes to Rainey Falls only and then peters out. BTW, I'll take over the Intrepid thread if you don't want to do it anymore.

6 + easy in the woods.....off to work.....only a couple of more days of this insane schedule.

Good running to all.

Thanks John. I'm not very familiar with that area. I think I should explore it sometime. You wanna be my guide? I should probably find some trail shoes also as I'd like to do some more trail running this summer.

and go ahead and take over the intrepid thread. Like I said before, I'll still be around but might not be as regularly. When I work from my GP office, for some reason, I can't post here at all. But I'm in Medford today and it works. I really don't know why the difference because we have the same computer set-up in both our offices, but whenever I try to post anything from GP, it locks up/freezes my computer and I have to shut it down/reboot.

Yay!!! Tamster's coming over to the muddy side!!!

Boy, Opie, I wish I could find a foot guru around here. Will be interested to hear what yours has to say.

The concensus of my friends/local docs is that there isn't a podiatrist around here that doesn't immediately jump to the "you need orthotics!" position. While the metatarsal pads are definitely helping and the discomfort relatively minimal, I'd really like a definitive idea what's going on with my right foot (that has a major callus in the middle of the ball of my foot). And with our great and wonderful heathcare system, it will take forever to get a referral to a ortho doc.

Hi Rip, Mike, KS, Paul, Johnny!

Opie, I think I'm going to join you on that heavy drinking and weight gaining... pass on the repenting part, though... ;)

Nothing once again today, but not feeling as worn out or sore and achy today, so I'm looking forward to trying a run tomorrow. Had planned on going to a beginner level yoga class tonight, but I'm just not in the mood to get up and get changed and drive again. I spent the night in Philly with MrOM last night, since he's there for the week and it's only two hours away. It was the first time DD stayed home by herself overnight. She's 16 and a half. Everything was fine.

Yeah, maybe a beer would do me well tonight. More fuel for the fire, I suppose...

I run trails but don't own trail shoes. Just sayin'... don't let it hold you back!

Yes, Opie, oh fellow funky foot sufferer, hope things are ok. Do share what you learn. I had a broken foot (stepped on by my horse) many years ago and wore a boot for 6 weeks. Didn't affect my gait much, or leg length/hips, and now that foot is my good foot. Go figure. But I was in my early 30's and indestructible back then. Well, except for the getting stomped on by a horse bit.

Mike, I forgot you were running a marathon. Which one was it. Seriously, you missed by 2 minutes? Wow, that sucks. You'll get the next one, though.

I'm not running Boston this year. I wouldn't have made it into that 8 hour window anyway (I'm just not that on top of things), but I'd already decided to take a year off. Hard to let that PR time slip away, but oh well. Turns out, even with the carpy conditions we've had this year I'm running like a banshee and loving it, so it probably would've been a good one! Oh well. On to other things. I'm still running Newport (OR) with Nancy in June.

9.1 miles last night with some hills and some tempo. 8:05 avg pace and felt good, until I turned back for my last two miles into the breeze. Wow. Even a little breeze at 20° can make your face freeze pretty well! I couldn't talk when I finished. Heh, some might say that's a good thing.

I worked thru lunch today so leaving early and will get in 10 or so miles, mostly the same route but planning to take it a little easier on the pace. We'll see how that works.

Didn't get stomped on by any horses. Went to a different yoga class at lunch & liked it. I just got back from a fun little ride to a park in town, a few laps on the path there and back. What a beautiful sunset! I think a few endorphins kicked in & it was almost as good as running. 12 mph, one of my slower rides lately, a little under 10 miles.

I got outa work an hour early today, so ran 8 miles in the daylight which is sooo energizing...counting the days until the time changes...all my miles were under 11 this time. Started with first mile at 10:55 and ended with the last one at 10:02. It probably helped that the last two nights were only 4 miles and I had had more than a few rest days last week, but still - I'm movin' up!

So here's what happens when I try to slow down and take it easy. More or less the same route as yesterday, just went "out" a little bit more before coming "back" this time. Temps were around 18, and there was a breeze from the NE that was very noticeable on parts of this run. Still, I came back with more tailwind than yesterday, so that was good.

Oh well, it felt good. Tomorrow I'll again miss my lunchtime workout for an appointment over the noon hour, but I'll run again after work. Can't wait till Daylight Savings Time (even though I think it's the stupidest thing in the world...), because it'll have me running "earlier" in the day when it'll be a little warmer and even lighter into the evening. Works for me!
