5M last night. Will either run 3 tonight or tomorrow. Planned on tomorrow, but my neighbor has asked when we'll run again. I'm stoked to get her back out on the road, but know we'll be doing some run-walking, so I'll get my run out of the way tonight, if we go out stupidly early tomorrow. :)

Oh yeah, bi/tri/core & all that jazz today, too.

PS - I'm thinking about another HM for 2012. Has anyone here had experience with the Minneapolis half/full event? http://teamortho.us/Minneapolis-Marathon/

That would be awesome if you come for this! I haven't done it yet, but want to. It's this weekend and they are going to have very hot weather for it, but I don't think it's normally this hot. I've heard that it's a fun event.

6 recovery paced miles for me today. Humid and 71 at 5:15 a.m.

Only fitness for me will be some strength and flexibility stuff a little later. Ankle is sore but not swollen - the joy of not having anything there supporting it means that when I do roll it instead of damaging soft tissue (ligaments) it moves enough that the bones bang against each other. I'm putting myself on a no-running-restriction until at least Monday. Which sucks because it's perfect weather here too!

Good morning runners.

My left knee cont to tweak. In the past, my gauge of whether I need to stop running is if it hurts when i'm not.. And this sucker has been throbbing at rest or if I bend/pivot in certain ways. Damn. So, i'm laying off the running now, icing, and working on knee/hip strength exercises and will see a sports med doc if it doesn't improve. The funny thing is I don't think an actual injury happened bc this tweakiness started 2 wks after I had AK - I think the preggers hormones loosened up my joints too much. Auuugh.

Anyhow. 32 mins on the elliptical last night.

Hv fun MN folks!

Missy- the post baby knee injury club wasn't looking for new members. Keep using caution, hope it heals quickly
Hopefully packing and cleaning counts as fitness, because that's probably it for the day. Road trip!

Good luck to the naked Minnesotans tomorrow. And any other racers.

I'll do a few miles tonight, then probably something long-ish tomorrow. I may also skip the long run and instead try to "race" a mile at the track. I timed myself at the track about this time last year and did a mile in 5:58. I'd like to see how I compare to that now that I'm in my 40s. So maybe I'll do that and save a longer run for Sunday...

I am also not a fan of that organization. They have blown several events coordination wise and also try to do too much causing issues. In my opinion, there are way better half marathons around here if you are set on coming to MN (which would be awesome)

Short but great brick for me last night -- 14 miles on the bike and then 1.5 mile run (my first since the race on Sunday). I had no idea my legs were still that trashed. The run was painful, and stretching afterward was even worse. My paces were good, though: 16+ mph on the bike and 8:11 on the run.

2 hour bike ride tomorrow plus a swim of some sort, and then a tempo run on Sunday (again, I don't know the details yet). I'll hear from Coach with particulars later today. I'm assuming the swim will be long and painful with some intervals mixed in.

Good luck, nakey racers!

Hi all - well, as per my doc's pronouncemet, I went out for my first "light cardio" workout yesterday, which basically was a glorified Gallowalk (100 strides of running, 50 strides of walking). Let's just say I'm glad I took it pretty easy - not only was it a lot more humid and warm than I thought it would be, but there are some lingering leg issues (not related to the surgery) that I didn't get worked out via ART prior my surgery that still need working out. I wasn't moving too well afterward, but the Knobble II was my friend right afterward and I'm getting around a lot better today.

Good luck to our Nekkid Minnesotans, healing vibes to ((((Missy's Knee & KP's Ankle)))) and happy fitnessing to all of you this weekend.

Brandy - thanks for the feedback. Have you run the course recently?. I read that they changed something on it, but I couldn't tell you what, specifically. The video they have online of the half looks fairly flat, so maybe the HM got an improvement, while the FM still has some annoying hills. Heat-wise, at least running in Georgia will have (hopefully) prepared me a little for MN conditions in May. I haven't set anything in stone, but I'm still thinking about it. The time of the year is good for me, as May was sort of a time (as usual) for me to start finding reasons to slack off. :) I'll check the reviews next week on active.com for some additional comments on how things go at the race this weekend.

Is there another half (or two) in particular that you'd suggest instead? I'm certainly game for other considerations, but I do want it to be a HM, and not the 10 miler that twin cities offers. Stuff that's close to an airport is preferred, as my vision is pretty crappy and I'm not keen on getting a rental car for transportation. Thanks!!

--------------------------

Bi/tri/abs/thigh work is done. Butt work will be done in my office before I leave work, probably. Planks will have to wait for when I get home, as the carpet here isn't soft at all on my hands/elbows!

Oh yeah.. and I'll get 3M on the TM tonight. My neighbor does want to walk/run tomorrow morning, so I need to get my workout done tonight. It's going to be 77 already by 10am tomorrow. Jeesh! Can we just skip summer and go right to fall, please?

Missybabe and KP - best wishes for super-fast healing/recovery!

We run that area a lot for training runs. It is hilly - not horrible but rolling. TCM does offer a half now too 4th of July weekend and that course appears to be a little friendlier. Heat will be an issue too on that one of course.

Why no to the 10 miler? It is such a pretty course, hilly too though. :) but what a finish!

This sounds dorky, but like Bob, I have a goal to hit a race in each state, but mine is on the HM scale, of course. While 10M isn't anything to sneeze at for my near turtle-speed, I want the whole 13.1 distance. It's going to take me a long time to be able to hit all states for financial reasons, so I want to make sure that each state I visit counts for a HM. :) Dorky, but hey.. I am dorky, so it's all good.

4th of July event - Oof.. yeah, I'll pass on that one. (1) I already have the Peachtree Road Race on tap, (2) For any trip, I'll have to board the dogs, and I prefer not to do that in peak boarding times. Gypsi doesn't do well with a lot of change and activity, so the quieter things are for her when she is being boarded at the vet's, the better.

Earth Day - Mid April

Get Lucky HM - Mid April (same organization as the minneapolis marathon)

New Prague - Late April

Get in Gear HM - Late April (it is almost always cold and raining)

Stillwater - Late May

Gary Bjorkland - mid June (up in Duluth and affliated with Grandmas marathon)

Urban Wildland - Richfield - First weekend of August - Lora ran this last year - it was HOT

Minnesota Half Marathon - St Paul - late August maybe - last year it was the same day as Urban but it isn't this year

Monster Dash - Halloween (same organization as the minneapolis marathon) - last year they changed the course to a point to point and then neglected to have the buses available.

Minnetonka's course was hilly but what got me what the coordination - it blew. I love finishing a HM on quicksand like mud and then freezing to death stuck in the finishing corral for 30 minutes (no volunteers around). Oh and they started us early to boot..as in before the start line. Who does that?

Gary Bjorkland is a marquee race for Minnesota but you will get hosed on lodging up there. They really take advantage of the runners.

Are you saying that my 50 state goal is dorky?
