No idea what's on tap for me. Yesterday should have been a day off, but I had the race. So.. I may take today, wed or Thurs off instead - or I may just play it by ear and run what I feel like. Decisions, decisions!

morning

Race yesterday went AWESOME. So, I don't like running in the heat let alone racing so I went into this one pretty open. I had planned on doing marathon goal race pace (845) for the first 7 until we got done with the hills (and there was a monster on this course) and then evaluation how I felt. Dial it back or up depending. Weather was looking unfavorable for me with mostly sunny skies and starting out at 68 with higher than I like humidity. Luckily it was a 630 start.

I slept horrible due to fireworks and some sweatiness and was up at 4 to eat etc. My stomach was NOT happy with the change in schedule. boo. Calf crampiness I had been feeling the past couple of days was stil there. Took some pepto, sprayed some biofreeze, stick my leg and hoped for the best.

Got to the race about an hour ahead of the start and did the mile warm up plus some light drills and strides. Oh yeah - warm one. I was already sweating through my shirt!

Got it line and tried to settle the nerves. Heck, if I was going to blow up on the course I might as well get a good tempo run in right? :)

Mile 1: 840

Mile 2: 834 (whoa settle down)

Mile 3: 845 - right on pace

Mile 4: 844

Mile 5: 838

Mile 6: 842 (some meh hills - lots of turns and potholes)

Mile 7: 851 (BIG HILL - like HUGE). I had already decided that my only goal on this hill was to keep form and my breathing controlled. We got a sharp downhill right after the crest so I was able to make up a little time on the decent.

I was feeling pretty good - decided to kick it up a notch

Mile 8: 837 - feeling good, noticing a sharp pain in the front of my leg (same one with the calf tightness) - what the heck is that

Mile 9: 825 (ouch - is something breaking...wtf!)

Mile 10: 833 - opted not to cross the street to get into the fireman's hose spray...I wasn't going to be running 1 step more than I had to

Mile 11: 827 - mind games now baby - leg issue went away

Mile 12: 849 - sh!t. last waterstop was a cluster and a bridge over the interstate in the sun really put the hurt on me

Mile 13: 812 - saw coach and a teammate and got some encouraging words

Mile 0.1 747 pace....

Ended up with 1:53:10 - my 3rd fastest HM time and easily a PR over 50F. I am surprised I did so well in the heat. The course was probably 50% shaded but there was a great deal of carnage on the course.

Awesome races Brandy, Ailerie and RILkid!

I've been so off schedule lately. No gym time or running to report, but lots of time on the go on foot and in the water this weekend.

Wow, great job, Brandy! And Ailarie and RILKid too...

There was a 4 mile race near me yesterday, but I decided not to do it. I had raced the previous two weekend with sub-par results, so I decided I didn't want to risk three bad weekends in a row. So instead I did a 7 mile tempo run. And yeah, it was hot and humid, and I was slower than I would have liked. In a training run, I'm perfectly okay with that. But in a race, it probably would have pissed me off. So I guess I'm glad I didn't do the race...

Sunday - 32 mile tempo bike ride

Monday - sprint duathlon + 2,000 yard swim

To say I'm exhausted doesn't even begin to cover it. I ended up napping both Sunday and yesterday because I was too tired to function.

Also this weekend... The 2-year anniversary of meeting GoV in person for the first time.

Woo hoo - nice work Brandy and Ailarie! Thanks also for the well wishes for DS. I still cannot believe he ran the 10K. He did a great job staying positive the whole time too. After we were done, we made big milkshakes and celebrated. He is sore today, but supah proud of himself.

I slept in until 7:00 this morning (woo hoo). Track workout tonight. I believe we are doing 400 meters x 12 with 2 minute recoveries. Ouch. It is a hot one again too.

I am a bit of a mess today. I fell on my bike last night (we rode to the grocery store to get silly string and ramen noodles ). It was pure clumsiness. And I RIPPED UP my knee. I also got munched by bugs in all the yard work I did this weekend and have a nice little sunburn on my back. Ha. I am fallying apart I tell you.

Great job, you guys!

I got a PR at a 10k race on the weekend, so I'm pretty happy with that! It was really warm and muggy, the air was thick. I didn't think I could sweat that much! Finished in 53:24.

I start my "official" marathon training in less than 2 weeks. Eeek!

5 miles this morning with the last 5 minutes at tempo pace. Perfect weather today, but I know the crap stuff will be back. Need to shuffle my schedule to allow for the trip to Cincy tomorrow.

Nice race Brandy!!! I love how you have PRs for different temp ranges!

Nice running ya'll! :)

I got in 8 easy miles after work with one of my training buddies. Spent some time today doing organizational work on my Bourbon Chase Relay team. It's coming together nicely.

Ooof. That just about killed me. Tonight we did 400s. 12 of them. At mile pace. So, yeah, 3 miles at mile pace. My calves already hurt.

DS joined our group for tonight's workout since the kid group mostly just plays this year and he really wants to run. He kicked my @rse too.
