1. Why do you run?
First it was a for fitness. Now it's to have some time to myself and have time to be contemplative without interruption. Also, I love having a sport where I don't have to be graceful or tall, where I can still improve as I get older, and where I feel my best is yet to be,
2. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Professionally, being the first person in my family to get a college degree. Getting my law degree and doing good work with it.
Personally, learning to live well with depression and having a family that brings me so much joy.
3. What is your motto/theme song?
The Rocky theme song. There's a particular hill in a park I run in where I sing this song out loud on my way up. Then I raise my arms at the top just like Rocky.
4. How do you deal with bad runs?
I pout. I give myself a couple of minutes to give excuses why it went bad, and then plan for a better run tomorrow.
5. Do you reward yourself for good runs? How?
Yes! I walk into the house (or down the stairs if I've been on a treadmill) and sing, "We are the Champions" by Queen, only I change the words to "I am the champion." My dd thinks it's funny. I'll know she's growing up when she rolls her eyes.
6. Who do you admire most?
My parents: they raised great kids with good values. They did it with almost no money, and with enough extra love that they took on foster children. When they chose to adopt my younger sister, they knew she had physical disabilities, but didn't know the extent of them. And they didn't know if she would be mentally developmentally disabled, too. But they loved her and were willing to dedicate their lives to raising her, no matter what it took.
7. What is the greatest advice you have ever received?
Motivation comes after action. This may sound trite, but it's true. I can't wait to feel in the mood to get something done. I have to get started, and then I'll get motivated to continue.
8. What do wish you had learned younger?
To like myself as much as I do now. I was abused by a family friend when I was about 5 years old. The experience made me the overacheiver I was all through school, but it's taken age and perspective to "get over it" and build self confidence.
9. What do you wish you could do but can't?
Convince the world to be nice to ech other.
10. How would your friends describe your personality?
Ridiculously nice (to the point of seeming a bit Pollyana-ish), intelligent, annoyingly well prepared (according to my work mates), competent.
11. What do you wear running? favorite outfit?
I buy all my clothes used except bras, socks and underwear. So I wear whatever I've pulled out of the drawer.
12. What has been your favorite race?
I've twice done a race at the local prison where you run with inmates. It's not a certified course, and you do laps around the exercise yard.
13. Do you have a goal race right now?
The Tom King Half Marathon in mid March
14. What makes you happy?
My kids, my spouse, being healthy, coffee, family and friends, good books, crossword puzzles
15. Tell us one interesting thing about you that you haven't said (at least not often) on this forum in the past.
Hmmm. I don't have a tv, and haven't had one in several years. I think everybody knows that. I also have a brother-in-law who is a big name in political science and health care policy. Obama, Edwards and to some extent Clinton are modelling their health care plans after his plan. He's been called the "democratic 'it' boy."

16. Tell us one interesting thing about another user of this forum that has not been posted (at least not often) on this forum in the past (make sure the other person will not object to posting the info!).

All I know is that every PRT'r I've met has been really nice.

I like your answer to #7. If you wait for motivation to visit you would be waiting for a long time.

Just take one wee first step and then...

Jebba, thanks for such a thoughtful and genuine post. Music really motivates me too and I feel proudest of my runs when my children see how good it makes me feel too.

Nice to read your post, jebba
You seem to have a great perspective, I really admire that.
Those eye rolls (see #5) are what I, as a dad, have come to live for
I hope that you'll contact us if and when you are ever out here in the old hood.
What a wonderful POTD report, Jebba!

It seem as if every day I read these I laugh, get choked up and feel very proud of the people we have posting here in the PRT.

Today was certainly no exception.

I liked your answer to #7 because I have found that to be so true.

It was really nice to get to know you better, Jebba.

But what's the deal with no TV?

You're missing out on so.....

Come to think of it, you're not missing a thing .

Thank you for posting! I also sing a lot while running. It's what gets me through it all.

The race in the prison sounds like a neat thing to do. Scary, but neat none the less.

jebba, your Rocky and "Champions" singing cracked me up. And you have always been my heroine for not owning a TV. That is just so cool.

Very cool POTD Jebba! I particularly enjoyed your answer to #1, and of course I LOVE the singing "I am the Champion"! My children have gone through the eye rolling phase, and have moved into the head shaking phase. Wouldn't have it any other way! Thanks so much for sharing yourself with us!

jebba, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I enjoyed learning more about you. And I'm highly impressed you guys don't own a tv. I don't think I could go without my SVU nights.
