Exactly 6 months to go for Jay, I thought I might use the oportunity to start my own thread.

Such a beautiful day I decided to head out to the local trails and get in a long run. The plan was simple turn on my stopwatch and run for as long as I felt comfortable. The trails were covered in nice fresh white snow, in some area there was no trail just signs of a fresh snowshoe tracks, got to run in plenty of 4-5 inches of powder. Got lost in the beauty and noticed I run for over an 1 hr 38 minutes, ran back to the car and called a day.

Tonight I get to boogie at our anual company Party. This years theme "Disco Lounge"

Enjoy the day,

Hey mykemp the swamp was an interesting part of the race I still remember that awefull smell. You did really well after that point. Are you going back again this year. I'm all signed up. I know there was quite a few who signed up when the registration opened. Hope to see you there.

Hey, Roly and other Quebec runners... I live in Vermont. I am signed up for Jay this year. It fell on a weekend last year where I had to go to a wedding instead. A bunch of local buddies did it and we'll have a pretty big contingent going this year.

I'm look forward to it. I have a 20 mile race in Feb and a marathon in May (Ottawa) to tune up.

How many of the Canadian Contingent are running Jay?

Roly, I'm going to take a break this year. I've run Jay the last two years. I'm sure I'll go back again - but I need a little break

Best of luck there this year! If we head up to Vermont to see family this summer, maybe I'll go and spectate.

............roly like trouble!!! ccasion5: and your always welcome to help stir up more.

Another 48 minute run in the snow, scared the poop at of a cross country skier when I zipped past him.

About 26 miles for the week I'll try and keep this milage for a few more weeks and see how the old body feels.

ran 16 km this morning + 10 km of rowing. All I need tomorrow is 1.5 mile run to match last weeks milage. run pace was a little less than 9.3 min/mile. felt very energetic but have decided to progress as per the plan and not push it.

Had my second Osteo appointment this week and the stiffness I had in the spine seems to be better. He gave me a few core exercise to help relieve the strain on my Psoas and piriformis muscles that take a beating from all my sitting at work. I go back in 4 weeks to see if the exercises help.

I guess the increas in running milage is helping with the weight, I weighed over 200 lbs at X-mas, this morning weighted in at 188 lbs. Yipee, now pass me another beer.

mykemp, Rock may be a little over zelous. I just hope to improve a little from last years attempt. That x-country skier I passed wasn't very fast. BTW I weight about 182 lbs at Jay last year so I'm still 6 lbs over.

Are you running any trail races this year, or an ultra.

Planning on the JFK 50 at the end of the year (November 2008 ). 15 miles of it are on the Appalachian trail, 26 miles are on a gravel tow path, and the rest is on the road... so I guess the answer would be Yes

Mykemp good luck at JFK.

15.1 km this morning + a small recovery tomorrow will have me at about 45 km for the week. next week I will run a little less during the week and try add a mile or two to my longer run and see how that works out.

April will be the start of adding a lot more runs on Mount Rotal in the trails but until them I will build on the basics.

have a great week-end everyone, Dinner party and plenty of beer for me tonight.

Thanks! I'm back, and I survived. I was hoping I would magically be faster than I am, and that my time would be 2h30m (7m30s per mile), but it turns out I didn't take any secret speedy pills. I ran a 2:35:21 (according to my watch) and I am very happy with that...

It turns out the weather was great. I was perhaps a little over-dressed and went out a little too fast. If you're interested, I wrote a RR in the Run and Race Report section...
