<span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">The short summary is at the bottom:</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">It was a dark and stormy morning and I hoped to survive one of my favorite/most hated 1/2 marathons every. I love it for the reasons they have it, to raise scholarship money for the children of veterans killed in the line of duty. I hate it for the time of year that they have it. It is usually hot and humid and this year it was raining at the start. I was thinking that it would be better to run in the rain assuming the rain held on.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Well of course the rain didn't hold on. I was just hopig to break 2 hours today. I have really struggled to get any kind of long runs in with the heat, humidity, work and family things getting in the way and I knew this would be a struggle. I started off WAY to fast. The first 3 miles include crossing 2 bridges so for me to be maintaining the pace I was at, was suicide and i payed for it. I went through mile 2 in 16 minutes and I knew I was in trouble. I was struggling to hang with a running buddy from work.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">By mile 5 he had disappeared in the distance. By then I had dropped into a mind space where I hated long distance running and wondering why I put myself through this. I was working very hard to not walk. The sun rose higher and I could feel my pace slowing down. Finally at mile 9 or 10 I had to take a walk break. I HATE doing that during a race. It feels like I have failed when I do that. I did try and limit myself to a minute or less walk breaks each mile though for the final 3 or 4 miles. I did not walk at Mile 13. Yeah! Trying to find a positive in the race.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">After finishing up I had a few beers with friends and drove home.</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Split Summary:</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Gun to start line: 24 ft in 9 seconds</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 1: Missed it</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 2: 2.02 miles in 15:50 (7:50 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Hit the split button instead of mode: 308 ft in 29 seconds</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile Mile 3 missed it</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 4: 1.88 in 16:12 (8:36 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 5: 1.07 in 9:12 (8:37 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 6: Missed it</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 7: 1.94 in 17:53 (9.14 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 8: 1.02 in 9:35 (9:23 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 9: 1.02 in 9:37 (9:28 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 10: .99 in 10:29 (10:33 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 11: .99 in 11:09 (11:18 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 12: .99 in 10:12 (10:17 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Mile 13: 1.00 in 9:37 (9:38 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Finish: .14 in 52 seconds (6:12 per mile)</span></span><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">Total Time: 2:01:24 - 9:15 pace</span></span><br><br><span style="font-family:Arial;"><span style="font-size:small;">No age group or overall placings yet. Hey FB!<br><br>
Great job out there today! It's gotta be tough running a 1/2 under those conditions. And yet you got through it with a great time! Awesome job!

It was warm and muggy up here and my 7 mi training run sucked. I can't imagine running a HM in Florida at this time of year. Yikes! Good for you for getting out there and trying, though I'm sorry your experience wasn't what you hoped for.<br><br>
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. I think you should actually get your Purdue game on TV tonight down there, though I hope that by the end of the night you will be disappointed again. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink">

The Purdue vs OSU game is on TV down here and I have cold beers in the fridge waiting for the game to start.

It was brutal out there today. I cannot imagine racing. You were close to your goal despite the conditions, and found something to be positive about at the end, too. Good job!

Good job FB. The weather sucked, but you made it, just a tick shy of your goal. Get a treadmill. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Very Happy">

FB,<br><br>
Sometimes we have those races, don't we? FWIW when I have a crummy day it's usually about early pacing and mentally beating myself up along the way too.<br><br>
There is an invitation-only race near Titusville called Ancient Oaks that I've always wanted to do. Maybe someday I'll deserve the invitation.

Never!!!<br><br>
I hated using the treadmill when I first started running 6 years ago. I was always afraid of getting distracted by the tv and end up slipping and falling off like a doofus. No thanks. I will stick to falling on the trails where we run.
