Ah well back to the old grind, don't forget to write 2008 on those bills

30 min elliptical followed by 1 mile walking uphill on the treadmill.

Good runs and workouts to all and Souci, you are CRAZY!!
(Did anyone else notice the rest of those swimmers had a little more meat on them to keep em insulated)

Ooops, I wrote today's post on yesterday's page. Oh well. Scheduled rest day for me. My quads are tight but not painful from yesterday's spinning, so that's good! I don't particularly enjoy spinning but it was raining hard and I'm still coughing so I didn't want to try anything outside.

Have a great day all.

Morning ladies,

Rest day today for me. Yes I noticed some were more prepared for the polar bear swim than others.

Thought I'd try to squeeze in a quickie 2-miler on the TM this morning before yoga class. Managed to crank it out in 17:30, not too shabby. I think the problem I had previously in returning to treadmilling was not so much the boredom (though that is a huge factor), but also that I was trying to run too slowly. I cranked the speed a bit higher today, and voila! no hip/psoas pain! who knew?

Already had to write 2008 on a form for DD for school this morning, how odd.... OK, enough random musings, off to shower and yoga class!

Good runs all!

I was all set for a run today, but when I set out, the roads were really slick with black ice left over from yesterday afternoon's slushy snowstorm. I got nervous about falling...one of our nursing staff was out for a run last week, and she slipped on black ice. The ENTIRE right side of her face is bruised, with a particularly dark purple shiner. She also separated her acromio-clavicular joint in the fall. AND her son's bar mitzvah is next week, so she is very sad. The whole thing has made me much more skittish to run on slick roads.

So, I went to the gym instead, where I hopped on an elliptical for 45 minutes of cross training. They had "Pretty in Pink" playing as one of the movie selections, so I was in John Hughes heaven...

Good runs and workouts already. I'll be rowing tonight at the Y. Erika, I'm crossing my fingers that you find your dog today.

Robin.. ouch for the Nurse fren! A workout is a workout so why risk a slip if you can do the same indoors.

Torya and I braved the elements this morning. It was 26F but howling wind making it like the teens. I bundled enough to stay toasty. It was work pushing into the raw wind. And it was trash day so there was debris all over the place from recyle bins! Nice run anyways. Tory and I did an EZPZ 6 miles. Nothing stiff, nothing sore.

Good Morning Kicksters! Evanflien, hope you find your dog soon. Sans the polar swim looks fun, I think that a 5 or so mile run prior to that might help. Great job on the races yestarday. Tim hope the dog isn't a sign of the new year. Very few dogs on a leash around here. The only ones that are bothersome are my neighbors cow dogs, but they were just trying to bully my dog and that problem is solved. Now it is just down to raised hackles and some snarling at each other.

I have been slacking enough, our caregiver is back. I think I am going to have to find a new substitute when she goes to vegas with her paraplegic client as Kay is always more stressed out when we have the substitute over. Karen our regular is very good at working with Kay and they enjoy each others company. I think it takes a special person to be useful to someone with dementia. She has never asked for a pay raise, but I went ahead and gave her a much deserved increase recently.

Today my plan is to go for a nice run while paying close attention to cadence, will be playing some of Billy Ray Vahns music to step by.

Good Runs All, Larry

Was I the only one who did not want to get up this moring? I stayed in bed just a bit longer thus short changing my pilates session. I did however fit in half and hour of core strengthening before I came to work.

Sans Souce, I absolutely loved the picture of you and your dear friend. I can see the special bond between you two. You are one lucky girl to have a mentor like her.

Tory and Perch-great 6 miles. I saw a runner yesterday with a dog like Tory and i thought of you two.

Happy tapering to those who are tapering.

OM glad to hear that the hip was not bodering you while running today.

After a hard run on Monday (see Belle Isle RR) and an hour of X-C skiing yesterday, I really just needed a recovery run today. The campus roads were plowed but still a bit snowy, so it was a good tryout for my new YakTrax, which worked absolutely greta for running stability. I would not trust them, however, on sheer ice or black ice -- not worth the risk.

2.7 miles at about a 10:00 pace, but I felt I could have run faster with the sure footing I was getting.

Roch!! hiya

Erika, I'm worried about your dog!

Like mariposai, I had trouble getting out of bed -- supposed to take DS to the snow park for innertubing, but the tubing place isn't open yet (aroo?? with all that snow in the mountains?)

So...this means I have to go to work instead?

Erika, I hope you find your lost pup.

Larry, that's a nice gesture for Karen. I'm sure she appreciates it.

At the end of yesterday's run, I had some discomfort in my Achilles, so I iced it during the day. A half mile into today's run it started bothering me again, so I scrapped it (the run, not my Achilles). More ice today.

Best wishes to everyone returning to the world of responsible adulthood today. I'm taking one more day off.

Also back to work after 11 days off. After yesterday's 13.1 mile run to start the new year right, I'm going to run 2 miles for lunch (only get a 30 minute lunch break) and will do a longer run later tonight.

Good Morning Kicksters!

Yesterday's snow really narrowed the streets around here. I think there wasn't enough to plow so the town just let the cars mush it up a bit. Consequently, I had to escape instant death several times during my run this morning. Some people just like to merge!

Anyway 8 miles, fairly pokey, but felt good (1:09:32, 8:41/m)

Perch, nice run in the gale. I think wind is tougher than hills.

Nice runs all,

G'morning folks
Milbot, hope that AT a very temporary situation
I would have thought Erika's dog would have showed up by now.
I had a little beagle that would stay away several days at a time in the old days.
Maybe he's just out courting. Anyways, good luck Erika.
We've got a smidge of snow down low, but 5" I hear up in the mountains. I may have to check it out directly.

I want to hear about choovies 108 too.
Am I the only one that is retired in here? I suppose retirement isn't all that good for everyone. Personally it is the best thing I ever did. Even after 4 years I still have work nightmares! It took almost 2 years to quit getting up at 3 am every morning. Getting out of the rush mode is a bit difficult and takes some dedicated adjustment. Larry

Ha... "more prepared" I like how you put that, Ksrunr.

Busy day at work but since inquiring minds want to know just how sore I am, here's my official report. Honestly, I'm not as bad as I thought I'd be. I was able to dress myself just fine this morning

I expected to have sore arms and shoulders but did not expect my abs to be so sore -- especially my lower abs -- so that's a bit of a shock. I suppose they are sore from jumping forward with both feet 108 times. But overall, the physical aspect of doing the 108 went better than I expected. I am stronger than I realized and that's a good thing to know about yourself.

Thanks for asking

Will run on the TM after work and get to race reports as soon as possible!
