Late start eh? I met up with my Tuesday morning running buddy and logged 7.7 miles on a morning that I thought was much colder than actually was... I like being wrong about that but man was I ever sweating under my layers. Ugh.

Happy Tuesday all!

Good morning. I took yesterday off, with my back hurting like he'll. It feels much better today, but I don't know if it's good enough to run. I'll see how I feel this evening.

Hey Maria, you mention in the Goals thread that you want to run an ultra this year. I was thinking that if I actually attempt to do 40 miles on my 40th birthday that I should at least get a 50k under my belt before then. But I haven't looked for anything yet. Do you have a specific one in mind that you're looking at?

I managed 5.8 last night. The footing was not great and my calves did not thank me. Either did the dog on the second lap.

I am running inside tonight and the dog is at day camp and will come home tired :)

Maria - ultra? you are such the rock star :) I think someone else might try for one too...you wanna come to MN for a trail race (NOT AFTON)?

There was one outside of St. Louis in April that I was considering but Ben (you remember him from the 4th of July race a couple yrs ago) pointed out several in NJ and close by. I'll fwd you that info.

You know I love to travel for races, which one and when? I'm feeling aimless without a set race schedule right now.

Trail mix 4/16/11 - there is a 25 and 50K. CC terrain mostly. Mostly rolling hills. I have never done the race but we run out there all summer long.

I believe Sage has run the 25K a few times.

Afton does have a 50K (weekend of 4th of July). That course is significantly harder and it is normally pretty warm out. Just ask Sage, Melissa and Jen about that one. :)

6k this morning in the snow and ice. It was slower than usual, but nice. I've been kinda slack lately so it felt good to remind myself of why I choose to get up early and get out there.

boB - here's a link to some ultras in the NJ area, all on trails. The race on 3/19 might fit the bill for you and I don't think it's that far from your place, no?

Dh's schedule is killing me. His work had limited hours last week, and is closed this week, which means he's had a lot of time off, which means he completely fucks up my sleeping schedule. And what sleep I do get isn't deep/restful.

Family stuff cancelled all fitness for yesterday save for a plank contest with my nieces (not that I picked that out on purpose, but when they saw me doing my routine, they had to at least give it a whirl). Planning to go for a run after work

Maria - I hear ya re: aimless without a set race schedule. Maybe its because I'm not rightfully sure what I want to focus on this year (nothing run-wise or tri-wise is tugging at me strongly at the moment)

Yo,

Sorry that you overdressed for your run Maria. I on the other hand went out in shorts and long sleeve shirt yesterday at dusk and it got cold in a hurry. I guess as a result, I sped along trying to get finished. 5.1 miles in about 40 mins.

I'm running the Red Nose Run 10 mile race this Saturday. Should be great since it's on one of our regular training loops. I'll know ever turn of every road. Race calendar is shapping up something like this:

Jan - Red Nose 10 miler

Feb - Mercedes Full Marathon (pacing some friends)

Mar - Oak Mtn. 50K (off-road Ultra)

Apr - Statue to Statue 15k; Talladega HM

May - Flying Pig Full Marathon

That'll keep me busy.

Biggest Loser premiers tonight. Just stumbled across an article about the running portion over on RW. This was interesting:

A number of past contestants have competed in everything from 5-Ks to ultras, and in a marathon last fall, Mark Kruger, from Season 5, ran a 3:18 and was just three minutes shy of qualifying for Boston. "Running is the key to keeping my weight off," says Kruger, 38, who was 285 pounds before appearing on the show in 2005. Now a chiseled 190, he adds, "I'm hooked. I'll be a runner for life."

Trails scare me. But I think I could handle something that's not too technical.

Yeah, that one on 3/19 isn't too far from me. It would be nice because I could sleep at home in my own bed. I'll throw this in the maybe pile. It would be the farthest I've ever run, but it wouldn't give me a new state. I suppose I shouldn't worry about that if my real goal is to complete an ultra. I'll have to think about it...

Anyway, thanks for that link! I'll take some time tonight to look thru the whole thing. And maybe check out some other nearby states as well...

Aimless. I'm feeling kinda aimless even though I have a marathon scheduled for 8 weeks from now. Hmm, I should probably start training for that, eh? And maybe I should book my hotel and flights...

I did 45 min on the treadmill this morning. It appears nobody else works out at 5 a.m., so I got my pick of TV stations!

Evening peeps! I ended up double dipping today when the opportunity arose to do my hill repeats with some local runners in lieu of solo. So I got back out after work for about 8.3 miles in CP including 6 repeats of Harlem Hill. In addition to our group of 8 was every other runner in NYC training for Boston, the theme of the night was most definitely HILLS, HILLS, HILLS
