Happy New Year all!! We had fun last night but didn't go too crazy. I got out this morning for an easy 6 miles in sweet conditions including upper 40 degree weather which meant shorts... yay!! Finished off with 4x strides.

Nice work, Maria!

Same for me: a good night, but safely home and in bed by 2am and up to meet my sister for a run this morning. Got 11 miles done in perfect weather. That's the longest run I've done since August, and I decided 11 was a good number for today.

I didn't go nuts last night either, but I woke up to some other body issues, so I'll have to run tomorrow.

Good Morning!!! Happy 2011!! Woot on the morning runs! Running in shorts? Jealous. Party of one.

I started off the day with the Resolution Run 5k - a ton of orange jackets out there running. A bigger crowd than I thought since it was only 3 degrees at the start with -29 windchill. Because exposed skin will get frostbite after 30 minutes at those temps they strongly advised slower runners to shorten the route - it was an out and back so they gave options on where to turn around for 1 mile and 2 miles. But I didn't come to run 2 miles, I came to run a 5k! The way out was into the wind and hideously brutal but after the turnaround it was great and I felt perfectly dressed with 2 layers top, bottom and hands with a fleece hat and my buff. Although I felt like the buff was going to asphyxiate me on the way out but it was too cold not to have it on, after the turnaround I just pulled it down and it was fine. And the course was a skosh long, 3.4 according to my Garmin. Splits were 10:13, 9:23, 9:08 and 8:52 for the last .4.

2011 goals thread? I don't know, we all didn't seem to do so great hitting our 2010 goals.

I haven't really thought about 2011 goals. I suppose all I want to do is stay healthy and knock off a few more states...

I just did 4.9 miles. Not too much to start off the year, but I think it'll do...

Nasty weather today, plus a little informal shindig with my parents (my dad's birthday is today), kept the fitness to a yoga session.

The weather is supposed to be even more nasty tomorrow, so I'll hit the TM if I have to tomorrow for a run.

2011 goals - had some general ideas, but now I'm not so certain anymore. Better decide soon, however

I survived the.scariest.flight.ever. Crikey.

It was 40+ degrees here on Friday, but when we got back on Saturday, it was 12 degrees with 35+ mph winds. Sheesh. I hit the treadmill for 5 recovery miles. Then I went and played with the neighbors to watch the Rose Bowl and celebrate the new year. Well, I celebrated too much and my head hurts this morning. I have a feeling my long run is going to be painful.....

I am up for a goals thread. I really need to start thinking about mine for 2011.

Hello!

I tried to post yesterday, but it kept freezing up on me and I finally gave up.

6 miles nice and early w/ MJR for the New Year! It was a great way to kick it off!

This morning was a very (back/leg) painful 16 miler. BUT, my paces were nice once I got warmed up a bit. Averaged 7:25 with some pretty quick miles in the middle. It was an out and back (what I always run), MJR biked with me to mile 6, locked up the bike and then ran to the turn around and back to his bike with me (4), then biked along with me the rest of the run. That was fun! He was nice to see him running 7:15's with little effort, he's really gotten in better running shape! It's also nice to have him around to carry some nutrition, it was hot and humid here today and that made a huge difference.

I'll have to think about some goals for this year and toss them into that thread! They are going to have *'s on them, though, I need to get healthy!

the crabapple tree to the left is ~8-10' tall. now that's a fire! it was our little pyro/beavis 'n butthead BURN IT evening in our field. 2+ years of brush, work on the house and a few christmas trees make for some sweet fuel!

and the beer was good. of course, as i took the first picture, i poured my beer down the front of my jacket and didn't realize it. [moment of silence for that red hook esb]

we had our 5th and final chrismtas yesterday...phew!

T - i have watched a bunch of the total immersion videos on their website but haven't ventured onto youtube yet - my next stop for some pointers. are you finding it helpful/worthwhile? i'm debating on a senior/tri/group swim instruction in the near future, depending on what else the medical community has in store for me. i have long wanted to improve my stroke.

i hit the gym this am for some elliptirider and bike - about 50 minutes worth, with some stretching and pullups. a boring but good sweat.

no 2011 goals for me. i'm not getting suckered into that again...feel free to make some for me.

{{{{solar}}}}}}} - i agree.

jen, you are far tougher than i am. nice job! and kudos to MRJ....he either read "Iron Your Own Damn Shirt" or was a ghost author.

good workouts all

cheers

oh, finished 2010 with 1279.5 miles - 260 miles less than 2009.

better than the average bear, i realize, but it'll be a long road back to those kind of numbers...
