I'm psyched. A friend of mine is doing her first du this morning. I'm heading up to send her off at the start. I'll get my run for the day during her biking session, and the plan is that since she's dreading the last 2.1 mile run, (she'll be a back of the pack participant) I'm going to join in, run with her, and bring her to the finish line.

(I already contacted the race director - it's in a public park and the areas aren't blocked off to race participants only, so she won't be DQ'ed if I join)

I'm so thrilled. Probably more than she is, but anyway.....

Good morning!

Good luck to your friend today, Ailarie! Have fun!!

I got a little 3-ish miler done. My running partner and I were supposed to do a 15 min warmup, 2 miles at race pace, and then 15 more minutes, but she was on a tight schedule, so we adjusted the warmup/cooldown section. Unfortuntely, our race paces are a little off from each other, so I did her race pace instead.

Any racers this weekend?

Wow. Somebody's excited this morning.

I ran 4 alone OUTSIDE, and then 1 fartleky mile with Gus. The happy little boy is lounging at my feet.

Glazing & loading the kiln today, which means lots of hauling stuff around. And I'll be packing boxes. WOOHOO!

5.7 miles this morning. Realized about 0.4 mile in I wasn't dressed warm enough (temp was almost 38F, but neglected to check to see how windy it was - VERY) but I was too stubborn to go back home and change. The run/effort felt great though...what used to be much faster than "easy" pace felt easy and had a correspondingly easy HR. Despite the wind.

Awesome 22 mile long run with my group this morning. The weather was perfect. Mid 40s at the start, and almost pushing 60 at the finish. I was smart and dressed for the finish. So just short sleeves and no gloves. Others were shedding layers like mad as the sun went higher and heated things up. We did two long hill climbs and I felt strong. All good.

It's windy as hell here too. KP, you rock!

I am a wuss so I went to the gym, and I think I made up for my lack of fitness over the past week all in one day today. The kids are at their Dad's so I didn't have to be home right away sooo...I started off running on the treadmill before the Cable Strength class started, got about 1.5 miles in when people started queuing up for the class so I wiped down the machine and got in line. Did the 45 minute strength class and it was tough. The guy next to me said he felt pukey, cooncidentally so did I! It could have been a total barforama! heh. Then I went up to the track to walk a bit as a cool down, and as I was going around I noticed folks going in to the multipurpose room. I've never taken a class in there so I went down to check it out. It was Latin Groove, I figured what the hell? And I was NOT the worst one in there! The two girls behind me were hysterically bad, actually colliding a few times. It wasn't really much of a workout though IMHO, barely worked up a sweat, but it was fun to try. Then the class that was after that in the same room was PiYo, a Pilates Yoga blend and since the Yoga studio is closed this weekend for floor refinishing I decided to stay and check this one out too! So I ended up being at the gym for something ridiculous like, 5 hours. I may be crippled tomorrow.

It's gettin... it's gettin.. it's getting kind-a-hectic!

Rawr. What a wonderful morning. My friend had X time as a goal to finish. She came in under that by about 27 minutes. That's including time to deal with a biking fall due to a turn in sandy soil + having to put a popped-off chain back in, and a slow transition in T1. She looked GREAT though. When we started the 3rd leg, she was tired, and said she had nothing left. She expected us to be doing 15 minute miles. While we did walk up 2 sections that were up steep hills AND rather muddy from the recent rains, she ran the remainder, had some zip when I peeled off at the last 1/10 mile, and we came in fast enough that her hubby wasn't even ready in the finish area with the camera. Too funny. :)

When we were all cleaned up, I gave her this:

Oh yeah.. and I got 5.5 in on my own while she was biking.

Great running and supporting our racing friends (Ailarie)!!!

I got my fitness started just after noon today with a 21 miler on the trails of the Palisades. Weather was super gorgeous and soooo enjoyable! Run went pretty well except for a point around 16.2 mi where I managed to pull both hamstrings while catching myself from a trip that would have landed me face first in some mud on the trail. Ouchie! They were both a little crabby after that but managed to loosen up and behave for the remainder of the run. Today was also the first time I've run into more than one straggler on these trails, I passed several groups of what looked like hiking boy scouts, one kid high fived me!

Awesome 22 miler, Tim. I know you have a 50k coming up, but what are your marathon plans after that?

It seems like every time I go to the gym there's something odd or annoying or gross. The woman blow drying her hoo-ha, the Amish woman running on the treadmill in her cotton dress and bonnet. Today I was down the row from a woman on a treadmill who kept blowing her nose - on the front of her shirt. She would just pull up the front and HONK wildly into it and drop it back down. WTH?

Wow - GREAT job everyone! I too love the necklace - what a cool, cool gift.

It was wicked windy here today too. I didn't get out for my run until late in the day as we had a basketball game this morning and bunches of errands to run. But I got in a little over 11 miles as scheduled.

Tomorrow I am running the Shamrock Shuffle 10K. I am super excited because I haven't raced since Halloween. But I am also nervous because: (1) I have been so sluggish lately; and (2) this course is a fricken beast. Seriously:

Yes, and you read the 6.3 miles right too. Every year my Garmin clocks it about 6.4 miles. So it is long and very, very hilly. Two years ago, a ran 44:15, which is just a few seconds off my PR. I have no earthly idea how I did that. For tomorrow, I'd love to be under 46, but really don't have super high expectations since I haven't done any speedwork in weeks. I have hit tons of hills though (just not fast).

It is a big race and I will get to see a bunch of my buddies, which is always awesome. DS#1 and I went for packet pickup and we stopped in at Fleet Feet to see my friends. They now have youth running gear, so I decked James out in some real running shorts, which will be fun for this season. He is already very excited about the upcoming Mud Run. Oh yeah - and thankfully his ankle seems to be mostly fine - so no break! Woot!

I'm in the middle of marathon training for Flying Pig. I hope to do a full out PR/BQ effort there. My brother and I will be running together. We both have 3:16 for a PR. We shooting for something 3:10ish, or just smidge slower. We'll see how it works out. I have 2 - 4 tune up races lined up post 50K including the Talladega HM. I hope I can swing a PR there too. My HM PR is way soft at 1:34.
