Why not work out like it's 1999? (oh wait.. wrong end-of-the-world prophecy!) :)

Rawr Bob! Sweet job!

Amichel - woohoo! Your goal was anything under 3:00, yes? Rawr!

Me - some AAAUGH news and some slightly funny news. Recall that this race (Pave the path) last year holds my 10k pr, and the only one where I've broken an hour. With the pre-race announcements, I learned why. Last year, the course was short two blocks. #@)*#$#$. Not so this year. Kudos to them for correcting the route. Boo hiss for them taking us through a section near the finish line that added a small (yet annoying) hill. Finishing time 1:02:12. 1st place AG, though I was the ONLY person in my AG. Ahh well.. two years from now I"ll be in the 40-44 group, and I probably have NO shot there, so I'll take my little trophy and be happy with it. At least I got my a$$ out of bed and worked for it.

I got tickled towards the end. One chick, I had been trying to reel in for ages. She was running faster than me, but couldn't keep her pace on hills. I'd almost pass her, and then she'd take off again. Grr. On the last (and surprise) hill near the finish line, she started walking and I eventually closed the gap and passed her. At one point, I heard her footsteps as she started to run again, but I refused to 'give' her the spot back. At that point, I thought she just could be the person that bumped me out of a possible AG award, so I was going to make her work for it, at least. After the race, she came up to me and said "I was trying SO HARD to catch you!" to which I responded "And I was trying so hard NOT to let you!".

Turns out she is 5 years younger than me, so it didn't matter anyway, but we both got a good laugh at it and enjoyed the push at the end. :)

Meh. I should have gotten my a$$ out of bed at 5:15am when I had the alarm set. Now, I'm just getting ready to head out for my LR. At almost 8am, it's already 66, with the humidity at 88%. By the time I"m done, the temps are expected to be around 79. Bring winter back!!!!

Yah Bob - How sweet to get an AG award on your first day in the 40's group! Neato! And Rawr for Jillian following in daddy's footsteps. Atta' girl! (It's cure that all the kids have a #1 bib, too)

I finished my 10, but jeesh they were hard. The humidity wasn't at high as expected, but I swear the temps had to be around 83 or so in the last couple of miles. Somewhere in the 8th - 9th mile, I finally just stopped and stood in someone's sprinkler spray for a couple of rounds to try to cool down a little. My quads feel rather shredded, but that's probably not unexpected with a LR the day after a 10k. I still have upper body/core stuff on tap, but my legs get a rest tomorrow. Woohoo!
