After my workshop this morning I'm going to walk/run on the hotel's treadmill for a couple of miles, if everything is feeling good. Then off to the airport to go back home, hooray! I miss DH and my doggies.

This hotel is great -- they had a "sleep CD" that goes through relaxation exercises and then soothing music. After 10 mins I was out cold and slept like a baby all night. I might see if I can bring it home with me.

Good runs to you all. Do a couple of miles for me. SS, how's your calf feeling this morning? Did you do a lot of icing?

Welcome home, tomwhite.

Cool about the run, Linda!

mc, you're all tapered now. Why don't you find a race to run?

Fresh out of whiskey here, SS. Instead: {{SS's gastroc}}

First, glad you're coming home soon, I bet DH and the doggies are going to wiggle out of (well, maybe not DH) but the doggies will wag themselves inside out when they see you!

Second,
You can't print a dissertation on how you look in pictures without photographic evidence. You are beautiful without photographic evidence but, it's somewhat freeing to post the scary pictures.

Third, I love your phrasing re: sister in law. (frontally enhanced... ha!)

Millerbot,
Yep, peaceful Sunday, went to 0900 Mass with my 14 year old son. He is a joy. He towers over me at 6 feet tall but, he still will hold my hand and laugh with me.

Welcome home tomwhite!
Hope you and Pickles had fun in HH.

Rindaroo!
It makes me happy to read about your good progress!

SS,
Okay, your calf is in good hands. Will you rest it if you are told to rest it?
Seeing how I might be somewhat restricted in the weeks to come, it'd be great to have a drinkin'... um, I mean restin' pardnar.

Ralph called from California. He sounded beat up and exhausted. He said, "We overdid it yesterday at Yosemite." Apparently there are mountains out there. He also learned how to repel. He said, "It's not too scary, that gear catches you if you let go."

Morning all! I had to get out there early because I need to pick up my DD soon from a sleepover. They called & now I have another hour....

Thanks all! I'm feeling good...

Hi Tom!! Welcome back & glad you had a nice time.

Rosie - LOL, mountains! When I used to visit Pennsylvania as a kid & they'd talk about their mountains, I'd say where? we call these foothills

Tamster - how was Rocky Horror?? did you find something to dress up in?

Oh yeah my run.. it was cooooolllldddd for the warmup 1 mile walk.. there was some frost on my windshield & roofs on the houses as I drove down to the bikepath.. ok I'm still a baby lol... Saw my bosses boss running with her dog on the bikepath (first time I've ever seen anyone I knew). I warmed up enough so the bronchials felt like they could run, so I ran 3 miles straight (yes I did it) avg 12:04 , total running 36:12. had to slow myself down the 2nd & 3rd mile, legs just wanna go faster than those cranky bronchials!! But all in all I'm very happy, mile 1 : 11:51; mile 2 11:59; mile 3 - 12:22 I felt MUCH better than 2 weeks ago (which was the last time I ran outside & could only run 2 straight). So encouraging, very encouraging. I like this feeling!

Hey all
27 miles on the bike. Windy, made it chilly. Not going to be many ideal days left this season for biking. But good news. I run better in this weather.

Rosie, your DS2 is a keeper.

Went into NYC last night, lots of costumes. Or maybe there were normally dressed, how scary it that thought?

Wimped out and didn't drive all the way to Corvallis this morning. Instead ran 10 miles in the foggy woods at 9:30 pace including a millbot fast finish™ of the last 2 miles at 8:55 pace. Due to rocks, stream xings, climbing over trees, etc., that's about as fast as I can go on that particular trail.

Rinda- good run, you're going to be so ready to kick some ass at the 5K in Phoenix in 2 weeks.

Riley- I should try one of those sleep CD's. I can't seem to sleep more than 2 or 3 hours in a row before I'm up for some reason or other

GUESS WHO TRIED "JOGGING"? Me! It went great. 5 mins walk, 5 mins jog (12 mins per mile pace), 5 mins walk, etc etc till I covered a total of 3.5 miles. I was thrilled; felt like a million bucks. What a great experience. Now I'm sitting in the Chicago airport and I splurged on a 24 hour internet usage fee so that I'd have something to do for the next 2 hours while I wait for my flight home. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that the jogging/walking is going well, if slowly. I'm going to be very slow & cautious, but I'm just so thrilled that the initial time went so well. Life is good; I'm on my way back home; my meeting went extremely well too. Unfortunately tomorrow starts early with a 7am physical therapy appt and a full day of work, but I'll face that tomorrow (like Scarlett).

Good runs, all. Rindaroo, you and me, we're slow but steady.
SS, how's the calf today?

Good afternoon all!

How you feeling today SS? better yet or is it whiskey time?

Rocky Horror was . . . well, it was Rocky Horror. DH and I ended up leaving early actually. Dinner and drinks with friends beforehand was good, seeing folks dressed up was entertaining to say the least - some were good and some were just over the top risque. And then of course, there's a whole segment of society that was out in full drag and costume and you can just tell they are in their element. I would say that maybe DH and I are just getting too old for this . . . because we've both seen the movie as teens/20's and enjoyed the stupid and totally off color humor . . . but I guess we are just in a different spot in our lives and after about 1.5 hrs we said to each other "this is a total waste of our time" . . let's go pick up our son (who was at MIL's) and go home.

I've been busy cleaning and organizing today and shortly I need to go take DS to a costume party at his friends house. He's Darth Vader this year. One of his classmates is throwing a big party for the entire class today. So, I'm going to drop him off and then go for a short run.

Welcome home TW, you were sorely missed.

Good running people,

John, I'm thinking Crescent City area may possibly become a running vacation destination for me next year. Run and camp for a week, any suggestions?

SS, I'm sorry 'bout the whiskey, but think I have a just a few drams of white lightnin' left you're welcome to when I get back home.
Good thing I'm going to KY next month.

Tammy, I know exactly what you mean!

So, Grace and I were going to float around Gordon's Creek but there was a Bassmasters Tournament! You never saw so many pick-ups with trailers in your life!

And. So, Grace and I walked down to look at the creek and a guy looks at our boats and says, "You're braver than me if you go out in those things."

The creek was brown and choppy, big choppy. So Grace and I looked at each other and I told her that the water was angry.

So she said, "Let's go over to Powhatan Creek"

So we did and it was great.
Can I post photos later?

Susan-Great to run! How did the calf feel with the jogging? After?
SS-How's your's feel?

I've been running pretty consistent at 3 miles every other day. With an extra days rest I stretched my run all the way to 4+ miles!! Felt good, I even had enough in the tank for a bit of a pickup in the pace for the last few 10ths. I kept it slow and took a little bit of a walk break a little over half way through.

Good to hear Susan is jogging again. Go easy girl. Rosie, Ralphie sounds like quite a thrill seeker. Tammy, I lauged about your Rocky Horror experience. Guess you know you are getting old when either the rock music is too loud or Rocky Horror isn't any fun any more?

I went to a running club event today. We had a costume contest, potluck and 3 or 6 mile run for those who felt inclined. I chose to walk with some ladies instead of run and I ended up with a blister on my toe from my boots. Sheesh. But it was a fun afternoon. I went as a pirate wench and may post a photo later if anyone sends me one they took. One fellow dressed as an angel in a blonde, curly wig but he looked more like Sammy Hagar. it was hysterical.

Hey Jesse, it'd be great to meet you, here's some camping info with a little editorializing on each.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park: Nice State Park located on the Smith River, maybe 8 miles or so NE of Crescent City.
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=413

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park: This is a bigger state park located on Hwy 101 about midway between Crescent City and Eureka, this has a lot of trails for running & hiking, some extremely nice, like running from the campground to and along a secluded beach and back through old growth,..... yeah baby, doesn't get much better than this. This is the one I'd recommend out of the 3 State Parks, as it has far and away the most hiking trails.
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=415

Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park: This park is located just south of Cresecent City, I've only stayed here once, but I know they have a nice hiking / running trail.
