Goot morning, everyone. Riiiiise and shine.

I'm spending a few days in Our Nation's Capital to help the National Science Foundation make sure that you (OK, moSSt of you), the American taxpayer, support the most meritorious research in elementary particle physics. This will involve being shut in a windowless room with nothing but coffee and pastries to sustain me while I review proposals, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make in the name of peer-reviewed science. I wonder if there are any Kicksters in the DC area...

50 situps and 3 min side planks in my hotel room; probably all I'll have time for today.

Everyone have a great run or workout and enjoy the gift.

shut in a room with coffee and pastries....yum!

Hally--I had never heard of Craigslist. After I read your post I checked it out and 2 hours and 50 bucks later, we are the proud new owners of an "almost new" recumbent bike! Even if it only lasts a year , for $50.00 who cares? Thanks so much for the info!!

Today it's a slip sliding away sort of day and I was going to go to the gym early, but instead I'm going to use DH's stationary bike for 30 minutes before heading out to work. I'm getting tired already of the slippery sidewalks & roads. Driving takes so much longer and everyone's very stressed about it. I'll wait till rush hour is finishing up instead.

Fortunately DH hasn't reset the seat etc since the last time I used it, so the bike should work out fine for me. I'm just waiting a few more minutes for my cereal to digest a bit more before I start. The dynamic duo likes to watch me and they even like it when I sing along to the stereo down there in the basement.

CAA, my youngest son teaches advanced quantum physics to undergrads, and inorganic chem to grad students, at McGill. I dunno what either thing really is. He's tried to explain it several times but I get completely lost after about the 5th sentence.

Riley what we really want to know is how did the billiards date go?

I too don't have a clue what AA is up to but glad he's doing it for us taxpayers.

Good swim Caddisfli

Gin - recumbents are fun but a little dangerous. It's hard for cars to see them and often bicyclists don't like riding with a recumbent because they can't see them either.

74 degrees this morning. Cold front that hit TX is suppose to either stall out 15 mi N or just barely cover the city. Temps might drop 10 degrees today as the front has run out of momentum. 5.75 easy untimed miles this morning. Some sproink in the legs but didn't use any of it. I'm letting all the sproink build up to a Saturday morning peak. May have to let some out Wednesday so it doesn't overflow onto my shoes!

Billiards date got postponed from Fri to Sat due to the weather. It was just as fun on Sat though.....hahahaha. DH beat me at pool but I sure did have fun, and he bought the beers so it was a great evening. This pool place serves Magic Hat 9 which I like a lot. I wanted to try the Sam Adams winterbrew but they were out.

Why don't you explore some other sciencey stuff while you're here? Just hop on 95 South and the 64 East... I'll have me husband show you around his place of employment... it's might not be elementary particle physics, though, I think he's in middle school.

Gin nice score! Ks, I think she bought an in-house exercise recumbent as she was looking for a trainer for her outdoor bike.

Gin, stick with me and you'll be spending all kinds of money online
Yes, it is the indoor variety. It has 10 different programs you can use or you can do your own thing. I will try it today even though it's in the cold garage right now.

I know I'll keep checking craigslist out now. I love that, unlike Ebay, you click on your own area. That's how we were able to pick it up so quickly.

I just got a new pair of shoes on Shoebuy! On sale and free shipping! Keep these sites coming Hally!

In my highly speculative and vastly under-educated view of participle physics. And I know that the mind is a terrible thing to baste. But....

I'm goING out on a limb and suggest that maybe the limb is more than the sum of the parts. But parts are nice, even if they are merry little pranksters. Carry on.

Temps would have been perfect for running but I had ice all over.
Ran in my basement for 3 miles in 34. This run seems more difficult than Saturdays 4 and I don't know why. It's ok though. I'm starting to get back on track in regards to getting my can on the mill.

I've never visited Craigs List though I've heard of it. A recumbent bike for $50.00. Maybe I'll check it out.

dave, you have my sympathy. i can remember two or three trips to dc where i was reviewing nasa proposals, about 2 blocks from the air and space museum. never had even 5 minutes to visit the museum. it was non-stop work from 8-5:30, usually followed by group dinner from 5:45-8, and often followed by 1-2 hours of homework writing reviews. but you've got to do a good job... we're counting on you!

A rest day on tap for me today, it's just as well since I may be working a tad late.
The Florida contingent of my company is launching a rocket this afternoon and we have to shadow their effort from our California control room, looking at data for unseen problems. These things have a tendency to run over some if there are delays.

Boy, things are getting to be mighty strange around here, considering the uncivilised hour. I'm going for a shuffle at lunch and then swimming this evening. ("Shuffle" is a recognized term between Coach and me that means that I may put on running shoes and select a gait that is not walking, but at no time is HR to leave the recovery zone. I'm so beat from over-doing Saturday's workout that I don't even care.)

Woke up this morning from a horrid race-anxiety dream in which I, ever-so-prepared for the FillInTheBlank Marathon, got to mile 20 feeling strong and chipper, looked down at my watch, discovered that six and a half hours had gone by since the gun, and that I appeared to be moving backwards. That, and the course suddenly went through a bunch of buildings and stairwells. And from time to time, one of you guys would come back down the course and tell me I was "doing great!" even when I knew I wasn't. Weird, weird, weird.

This is going to be our big pre-Christmas crunch week, thanks to the church pageant winding up before all the regular daily activities have wound down. The Scot and I have agreed that no-one is allowed to complain that we won't be eating many home-made dinners together this week. It's just how it's going to be.

dAAve, I'm sorry, but as I read of your work this week, I thought of the "Ministry of Silly Walks" sketch with the poor fellow who presented a grant proposal for a walk that "isn't really very silly, now, is it?"

Thank you for serving, NSFreviewerinDC!

I have asked for Dance Dance Revolution (playstation) for Christmas! I hope I get it! It just seemed like a fun way to get myself to do plyometrics...
