Met a small group for a run this morning. 8 miles along the bayfront farther and faster than I should have run. No wind today which is very unusual. It's overcast and muggy. Yard needs some attention today after being gone a week. Must do that this morning after the neighbors are up and moving. :)

Have memorial service to attend this afternoon. DW's aunt passed away while we were gone. Her health was as bad as anyone I know so we were not surprised really.

Rip is racing this weekend? Who else? I know some long runs are planned.

One of our newer running ladies this morning told us she is getting married in Oct. in Scotland and then they and some of our other friends are running the Loch Ness marathon in Ireland. Jealous.

When I first started pool running there was only one belt and there's actually be people waiting around for it! Then they got three more, and frequently I'd be the only one using one. Something about scarcity driving up demand? I don't know...

Welcome home, John! Running that marathon in Ireland does sound fun.

Still sitting around in my bathrobe drinking coffee... We'll leave here around 9 to catch a bus to the start of our 5k. There's not enough parking at the school where it starts, so there's buses to the start and then back to your car afterwards from the finish. DH will take the bus to get the car and I'll run enough more miles to hit my 10 mile goal and meet him at his office. Then home. It works. Chilly this morning (it's warmed up to 30° so far) but sunny, so the forecast snow and rain showers seem to be a non-issue.

Yeah, I guess Scotland would make more sense.

HappyFeat, I love runs like that. You give your all, but it all works. But it's sort of like how I feel about my kids. I wouldn't take any amount of money for either one of them, but I wouldn't give a penny for another one!

Yes, ^5 to Disco Dan! What a getup. Nice splits, odd short last mile? Still, I'd love to do those paces for a 5k much less a 10 miler. Nice job!

And a big Atta Girl! to Heme for that last big hairy run. You really waited till you finished that to sign up for the 50k? Lucky it didn't sell out, ya know?

Yes, I did run a 5 k this morning. It was interesting, to say the least. All the races in our town this year have set records for participation, and I think today's race was no exception. The buses were running so late, we got to the start just as it was starting (which, btw, was early... never heard of a 10 a.m. race around here starting at 9:58!!), but we made the best of it. I don't usually write a race report for a 5k, but this was nutty enough that I thought I would.

After the race, I went out for 7 more miles (7.22) in a nice progressive pace effort. Sort of misleading though, because the later faster miles were reverse of the harder (as in uphillish with a headwind) earlier miles. Here's the play-by-play of those last miles:

8:28 (first mile, working through the finish crowds and finding DH just as he was coming off the bridge)

8:25 (gentle uphill with chilly headwind)

8:09 (finding my cruising gear)
8:06

7:51

7:41

7:39

7:31 pace for last .22 mile

Felt pretty good, but hope I didn't over do it. Those faster later miles are reverse of the harder miles, so that explains the pace a bit (always love a downhill trend with a tailwind). I guess tomorrow's 20 miler will be the test!
