Morning! I have 6 miles on tap and will do them later today.

I was able to put 8 miles on the bike last night while DS watched a show. It was actually fun. Maria - I thought of you b/c my cat did NOT like the trainer. She sat on a chair next to me and meowed (in her annoyed cat voice) for a few minutes when I first started. She wasn't about to get anywhere near the spinning rear wheel though - I think you'll be okay with your cat. :)

My mission for February is to drop 5 lbs. I have upped my mileage and reduced my calories with better stuff, but my weight is not budging. However, I have 4 solid training weeks ahead of me that I have to believe will prevail over the scale. We'll see.

Morning Gang -

It's February. BAA said they are announcing new qualifying standards in February. Hope they do it soon!

Sounds like the new trainer is fun, Mindi!

I'm gonna do something speedy at the gym on the TM later.

Maples - good to see you back here! I didn't have time to comment on your plan yesterday. I think bumping one of the later runs up over 3.1, just so you've covered the distance this training cycle makes sense. Also, what about adding some strides at the end of one run a week? Good way to get in a bit of extra mileage and get you used to tiny bit faster speed without doing too much extra work.

Good runs to all today.

I wanted to, but it's $145 and with my calf not 100%, I can't justify spending the money right now. I'm disappointed.

Good God, I need more sleep. Right.now.

Yeah, it is pretty outrageous. But it is a relatively local race for me (3 hours away) and it is an awesome course. I'm in!!!!

Oh - don't get me wrong -- if my calf were 100%, this was the year I was going to do it!

morning

ran 6 miles last night. The wind was bitter but the footing was relatively acceptable for 90% of the trail. Dog made it the whole way too!

Dome speed work tonight.

Chicago is way too expensive and I did not have an enjoyable experience last time. Run/walking the last 7 with a swollen ankle will make you hate a course. Especially with wall to wall people running and spectating saying you are "looking good"..f you. I am limping and finishing 30 min slower than I want.

I'm gonna do Chicago again some day. It was my first marathon, which really meant it was more pain for me than anything else. Now that I've got a little practice at this marathoning thing, I want to go back and enjoy it. But of course, going back to repeat a state means I won't be progressing towards completing the 50. And 145 freakin' dollars is a lot of money, considering I'd still have to add plane and hotel and food on top of that. Sheesh! So umm, I don't think I'll be doing it this year. Some day. Just not now...

Anyhoo, whatever I do today will probably depend on the weather. I packed for the gym, but I think there's a decent chance the gym will close early. So I might end up stuck on the TM at home. That's not a terrible thing, but (a) it's not as good as the TMs at the gym, and (2) it sometimes gets complicated if the kiddo is home because she always wants to hop on it with me. We'll see...

solar - happy for your run yesterday, with no calf issues. Hopefully you have reached a turning point.

Registration fees - they are all getting out of control. Long Branch HM is $90. That's a lot.

I am SOOOOO happy I purchased the daily use card for my local gym. With all of the crappy weather we have had, it gives me a chance to run when I work from home. Like today, 4 miles at 5:15 AM. Home, showered, and coffeed ready to work.

I think I'm going to run Twin Cities again this year too. I'd like to run my local MedCity marathon in May but A) I don't think I'm mentally up for the training. and 2) it seems that every year we have cold weather up 'til race day and then whammo - 80 degrees, and it's not so great a race experience. It's a figure 8 loop so the full marathoners have to go past the finish line for the other half of their race and both times I've run the half I thought how HAPPY I was to not be running the full. It is however, a cheap registration ($65 for the full up to 2/28, and then it goes up) and it's RIGHT in my backyard. I can get up, go race, and come home and make brunch for me and the kids. It's tempting.

And i'll probably get a good bit of shoveling in later.

ah shit, that's right....SHOVELING. I had to baha out my driveway to get past what the plow deposited. <grumble>

So the fitness du jour is a lunchtime treadmill run and then shoveling after work. rah.

Hi Everyone--

I hope you are all well, I check in from time to time but I regularly have registration issues and in frustration give up posting if I can't get in after a few tries. This has been a rough winter for me--aside from sick this fall, work has been pretty "involved". I am happy to report my class this spring rocks, though.

Training has been going well. After toying with this for many months, in Jan, I seriously added "Insanity" three to four times a week to the workout regiment. It was terrible to start with, but has gotten much better but I'm a plyometric "fail". It's making a noticable difference after about three weeks. I feel stronger and noting some changes in the pants, too.

Running mileage for Jan: 136.4 which is more than I thought!

Goals are good. speedy halfs this year--Tiff and Frankie were talking about doing Madison again (I won't do that again until they change coordinators). I wouldn't mind doing Madison, just not THAT one. ;)

No Chicago--I really wanted to love that race. I really didn't. I think it's a cool experience and I would encourage it as a once in a lifetime just for that size of race--at the starting line you have this feeling that you are with all your peeps at mecca and everyone in the world showed up. The diversity is awe inspiring, as well as the amount of spectator support. At one point, I could see down a slope and couldn't tell the difference between runners and spectators--only that the runners were bobbing. Then I felt like crap, but it wasn't the course, it was me. :)

I think my next marathon will be 2012. But what? Portland?
